Large 4.5" Blue and Gold Mandala Tutorial

- 🧭 Ok... you guys asked for it and here it is!!! ATLATIS! This is the first time I've filmed one of my large mandalas. I've been doing small resin reveals but by popular and surprising demand... here's the full tutorial. I've named it Atlantis because that center just reminds me of an extremely fancy and treasure-like compass. It feels nautical! I love the way the Blue Color Shift showed off in this video as if I'd changed colors right in the middle of painting.
I had a lot of trouble with the guidelines and that pencil. I've ordered that template that comes with the Happy Dotting Company's molds. When that gets here hopefully I won't mess up so bad. The pencil was a watercolor pencil I bought so you could see better. Let's not give the pencil a bad wrap just yet. If I had waited proper drying time on the black paint... then I wouldn't have wiped it off with the q-tips. Also, had I sharpened it when I got to a very fine point the lines would have been much thinner and not mixed with my paint so badly. So, I'll give this pencil another try next month and see if we can blame these errors on me this time. If it works out I will link it on my Art Desk page in my website. But, I'm not listing it until I like it LOL LOL LOL.
You guys have to be honest with me here... would you like to keep seeing videos like this or was it too boring? I'm thinking I could do at least one a month or maybe more? Guess that all depends on how much time I have. This took me days but good golly I couldn't have asked for a more gorgeous first film Stone... and for that I'm thankful.

I just saw this for the first time. You are really amazing! I have tried painting for a while now but took a break for several months. I loved the video and the humor which kept it fun to watch. I don't do rocks, I do Christmas ornaments and your designs are usually a great size for that. I love your work and the quirky sounds and little characters. They liven up the process, not like watching paint dry. Lol

JaDel, your work is magnificent. I don't think I have steady enough hands to do these designs, but I ❤ watching you create them.
You can do it! Even if it's a little wobbly and messy... in the end you'll still enjoy the art and the little mistakes have a magical way of blending in. Some days I just can't do it. Maybe too much coffee, LOL. Somedays, I'm just tired and my hands are weak. Those are the days I dot! The good days are for fine lining and it takes so much practice. I'm still a mess but I feel like I'm getting better and better with practice. Thank you so much Barbara for commenting and leaving me a bit of encouragement. I really appreciate it :)

I found it, yay! When I saw the picture on FB I knew I had to see this tutorial. You’ve given me the motivation to try to paint this one, but first I’ve got to order the Holographic Illusions Crystal Ball.
I've seen it both at Hobby Lobby and I think I've gotten it on amazon. I buy 3 bottles at a time!!! LMBO!!! I cannot wait for you to try this! Whenever you get to it, you know I've got to see it. Some people use a paint marker for the detail work. Let me know how it goes. Good Luck!!!

Oh! I forgot to tell you. I got in my dropper bottle. I ended up geeking out on pretty bottles and ordered these blue and purple dropper bottles. I think they are intended for oil infusion stuff. But, whatever… I filled one with distilled water and it’s made all the difference having that handy like that. When I get to my art desk later I’ll take a pic and post it. Thank you 💙

Roller balls, S-M-L dropper bottles in all different colors. It was so hard to pick a color an d my husbands patience waning.LOL. I selected the red fade to clear. I feel like a scientist LOL

I loved this especially! The only suggestion I would add or ask for is to please list the color and type of paints you use. My eyes aren’t what they were so I could not catch them during the video. Keep making these please! You just get better and better as an artist and as a vid maker❤👏🏼

I missed this one when it first came out, What a beautiful jewel! I just got my 4.5 in. mold the other day, and I have a stone drying. Oh they take so long to dry too. LOL. I can't wait to start painting it. thanks for another great tutorial

@@JaDeLRocks yes, I have always weighed my stones to know when they are dry. Even my beach stones (which I do not weigh) I leave at least a week. I had one beach stone that was obviously still drying when I resined it, and totally ruined it. I still have it as a reminder and one day I might dremel the resin off that area (it did not happen to the painted bit, but oh so close). sighhhhhh I was such an impatient noob lol
oh my first 4.5 I am doing your mountains one, and then I have to see if I can source utralcal 30 somewhere. seems none out here anywhere, and I will have to pay more in shipping then the product cost grrrr
@@puffnstuff7133 doesn’t it make you wonder how people resin “wet things.” I saw a guy resin a pizza to make a table out of it??? I don’t get it lol. I’ve even noticed that if it’s not dry dry dry that certain dots will become almost hydrophobic and the resin beads up around them. Lol… best practice is like I said in this video: let it dry like forever 😂😂😂
@@JaDeLRocks oh noooooooo, not forever!! lol. yes, for sure. and I have seen some ppl say they are selling items that were painted only days before and then resined. I just want to scream nooooo, but they just say it is fine. It is things like that that give resin a bad rap.

This is beautiful and very informative. But I always have problems using the right brush to paint lines and swirls. They start off thin and then it becomes thicker and wonky looking. Can you tell me the number that is on the brush, or what one you use. I've tried different liners. Thanks, from Airlie Beach, Qld, Australia.
Thank you so much Sarah... I had loads of issues getting just the right line. Sometimes I still get all wonky. Ok, most of the time I get all wonky, lol. So this fine liner brush is so inexpensive yet it's my favorite. I linked it in the description but it's mixed in with the dotting tools. When I made this video I used the brush that came with these dotting tools (link in description.) However, I just went and added a link to the brush only... I was so thrilled to find a 3 pack of them so I didn't have to buy dotting tools each time I wanted to replace my brush. Anyhow, I added the link under the dotting tools. In this video I'm using the shortest brush. The Amazon listing says It's 7mm but I know that must be the length. I do hope this helps. The key to fine lines is going to be control.... and paint consistency. I practiced for every painting words on kindness rocks. Still to this day I do this. I'm just now getting pretty confident but I still make loads of mistakes. Good luck :)
