Great video man and playing! Thanks for posting. I’ve had the pleasure of taking drum lessons from Paul T. Riddle and in 1995 he asked me to teach his students while he played for the Allman Brothers while Jaimoe was ill. Then Paul T. Had a band called Seven Moore and I saw them performing this song at the end of the show. Wow! I never got the pleasure of seeing Toy play. But I love love this Lp and there others. Paul came down to my house last year and just tore up my kit! I would post some of that but I respect his privacy. My band at the time played at Doug Gray’s wedding. The band has had a big influence on me as well as tons of people around the world. 🎶. Good stuff.
Greetings from South Carolina, home of the MTB! Marshall Tucker Band is a good thing to get hooked on! The first 10 albums feature Toy Caldwell and are all fantastic! How do I know? I've been listening to them for 51 years!
If there's a better song than this, lead me to it. When we lost Toy, we lost one of the best ever. Love MTB. I'll be listening to these guys until the day I put my cue back in the rack.
Very nicely done my friend 👍👍 I grew up a Southern Rocker (MTB, CDB, Blackfoot, Delaney & Bonnie, NRPS, JJ Cale, Outlaws etc.) MTB always seemed to lean a little towards the jazzy side, so very tasteful. Sweet & smooth
Thank you . Just couldn't get that first chord . A couple people I saw were playing G6 or Gm but sounded horrible . I was playing Gmaj7 . It worked but sounded off . Thanks for the lesson
Love this! I'm exploring Marshall Tucker this month inspired by reading Martin Poooffs Southern Rock book. Great tune, great lesson. Had me jamming immediately ❤️
This is a bit out of my league, but I could still play along to the backing track. Your playing is sweet ! I had forgotten how awesome this song is. Thanks for sharing !
Fun fact about your album there. There are in fact two versions of your vinyl . One is a misprint ( very rare ) including on the cover cant you see live. It was supposed to be on that album but got pushed to the searching for a rainbow album
Heard Marcus King do a version which had me searching for the original. Was wondering what about it I loved so much. Trying to learn why I like things more to incorporate in my playing thank you!
I don’t if you get this but if you do . I been looking for someone to teach this song . I grew up listening to all MTB albums . Thank you ! Thank you ! I. Kind of knew the chords but that’s it .
Thanks so much for this. How about Ramblin the fast version and Wheels of Fortune by the Doobie Brothers no one has done these that I know of not like your teaching, Thanks again!
I wonder if Garcia's - Eyes of the world was influenced by this song? I first heard Marcus King play it and was just floored....it was so Garcia and Steely Dan esq (my two desert island bands) that it stopped me in my tracks. Had Marshal Tucker Band had a better singer that song would have gone straight to the top of the charts.....Marcus King's voice absolutely sells this gem!
I’ve not really listened to Marcus King’s version so, I’ll rectify that. The Dead and Steely Dan are important to me too - and ‘Eyes’ is such a great tune 😊
Killing it! Keep Toy's playing alive 2024.
Such a legendary but also underrated classic.
We moved from NY to South Carolina in 2001; The Marshall Tucker Band was a major influence.

That’s amazing, thanks so much for posting and for the thanks. I’ll have to look up those Allman shows.
Thanks again, great stuff to read 😊🙏🍺
What a treat this was! Thanks, man.

It's a head hurter .... I admit, that I had to slow it down to figure it out :)
Thank you . Just couldn't get that first chord . A couple people I saw were playing G6 or Gm but sounded horrible . I was playing Gmaj7 . It worked but sounded off . Thanks for the lesson

Thank you and I’m very sorry for your loss. I’m so glad this could help you with this tune 🙏
Thank you! You really helped me get this song. Your backing track at the end was also great for getting me in the groove.
Thanks so much Jack, so glad I helped 😊I’d love to do more Toy in the future, one of the greats. Happy New Year to you.

Brilliant 😊 I’m so glad - and thank you so much for your comment.
This is the kind of song you can just play all by yourself
This is a bit out of my league, but I could still play along to the backing track. Your playing is sweet ! I had forgotten how awesome this song is. Thanks for sharing !
Great stuff, thank you Mike 😊. An awesome song indeed, one of the best.

Ace, thank you - I’m going to be looking for that from now on 😊
nice thanx man
Thanks....
Soooooo underrated. Toy was one of the best for sure. There aren’t a lot of mtb lessons that aren’t ‘can’t you see’ haha.
😊 indeed, and there’s so much to learn from him. Thanks Boston 😊
Toy certaintly was among THE VERY BEST!!!!!
great job! man you got the bull by the horns on this one, hope you drop some more stuff on here.
Thank you 🙏 I’m hoping to add ‘take the highway’ tomorrow 😊
Heard Marcus King do a version which had me searching for the original. Was wondering what about it I loved so much.
Trying to learn why I like things more to incorporate in my playing thank you!
Try their ‘Fire On The Mountain’ tune too (if you haven’t already) - another great tune 😊
Thanks Andrew 🙏😊

Richard Hammond? Top Gear? I had NO IDEA he played guitar!! ;)
He’s twice as tall as me !
Thanks so much for this. How about Ramblin the fast version and Wheels of Fortune by the Doobie Brothers no one has done these that I know of not like your teaching, Thanks again!
Hi Bill, thank you 🙏 😊 - I’ll have a listen to those in a bit - see if my fingers are up to Ramblin

Do you have the tabs for this? I’m trying to make a tan for mandolin but I’m trying to use your notes.
Hi @houstonhughes40, so sorry but no, I’ve not tabbed it out. It would be fun, but alas time does not allow 🙃
That look like an 83 or 84 Gibson Spirit
You’re right, it’s really similar - I’d like one of those 😊
George Mc Corkle you have forgotten all about.
Are you playing clean into the blues jnr?
I use an NRG purrer that sits in the whole time - I just use the guitar vol pot to dirty it up
And Toy didnt make rolling stones top 250 guitarists, what a joke, that guy was pure soul on the fretboard
Yes, that list was awful 😣
Dead ass if you wanna learn to play guitar. Toy Caldwell will teach you. He literally is the reason I was able to learn anything
great album, and these guys aren't in the Hall of Fame? what a disgrace.
Toy wouldn't have used a flat pick. nono
He had an amazing thumb 👍 😊
