  • In this long awaited episode the crew of the good ship Sea Moose make their way across the treacherous waters of the Gulf of Mexico. What starts out as a calm, easy crossing turns into the most harrowing experience Captain Moose. Admiral Darina, and Yorksie the Wonder Dog have had to date.
If you’re planning to loop THIS IS A MUST SEE episode. It’s not all fun in the sun, cold drinks, BBQ, and bikini’s on the beach on the loop!

Wow, what a trip. My wife and I have talked about the great loop, but she is a little scared of the water. It's just as well since we don't have the money to get a boat right now. Thanks again for the great video.

Flare would work good on that.
But you would have to upgrade your electronics

The lightning shot in your video showed snow capped mountains with trees . Impossibility in the area you were sailing.

Guilty as charged! Very observant of you. Yes, it's stock footage. Impossible to video lightning when the boat is heaving around :)

So happy to see you back congrats for the crossing and certainly you elected to take the long haul.
And the old adage applies thst which does not kill you makes you stronger.
You be strong fair winds and calm seas are fine but they don't tend to make the memories

Thanks Dave! We'll get the rest of the loop processed and catch everyone up on our new pusuits.

When you don’t check the weather forecast before you leave, you get what you deserve. But then, powerboaters aren’t really seamen

Yes, and when the weather forecast calls for 1 to 2 foot seas for three days before you leave, rig the boat for heavy weather! When I was cruising on sailboats I always put in a reef before the sun went down even if it was dead calm ;)

Never trust the forecast from NOAA, always underestimated. Do you have Windy and picket Grib? Both are far more accurate. Wise man to reef at sunset. Too bad it was a trawler if you were in your sailboat you could have hove too and ridden it out confortably.

You are absolutely right of course. I'm a weather fanatic, was a Skywarn Spotter for years, have Windy, Radar Omega, and Bouycast. Will check out picket grib that's a new one. Compared to a sailboat with a deep keel a trawler's flat aft shape has a snap roll that isn't pleasant at all. I choose trawler for the loop, as most of it is rivers/ICW/canals and from a livability .vs. length perspective the trawler is much nicer to live on for a year. Sea Moose's hull is an inch thick solid glass with a full length keel filled with concrete and rocks - I would not own a powerboat without a skeg rudder protecting the prop - but with those big glass windows that make it so livable big waves are a no no unless you taking them on the bow or the stern. Unlike a sailboat, if you lose propulsion and go broadside to the waves you're going to be in big trouble. I met a guy with an MT 34 D/C who was off the coast of Georgia and rolled it so far over the floorboards came out - and it didn't roll over, but still... had to be sixty to seventy degrees of heel can you imagine that :) @@scomo532
