I love the story , I'm not a person who gets out much " Wow ' I just realizes how pathetic that sounded ! lol. I spend all my time in my studio painting , after being bed ridden for 15 yrs ' that's really all I meant. But I envy people who get out to auctions and stuff like that and I really enjoyed your story ! Again ' Thank you so much , I very much enjoy your content, and you seem like a really great dude Christopher, Have a great day My Friend !
@@christopherwestpresents Thanks for that reply and I'm loving your videos. But does the seller get the full hammer price and the buyer pays the auction house commission?
@@Nashvillain10SE the seller usually gets the hammer price minus a commission to the auction house - this can be anywhere from 0 - 20%. The auction house then charges a buyers premium to the purchaser. Often around 25%. I should prob do a video on how auction houses work!
Fantastic story... my heart started racing with the auction bit!

That was an exciting story! Mr. Gilliam was a great artist and you were blessed to be able to buy a painting of his at ANY price, let alone $20!

Score!
That was a fun day!
Just curious: what was the auction house's commission on that $17,000? Or does the buyer's premium cover that? Thanks!!
I believe buyer’s premium was 25% at that auction. But I’ve since sold similar works at 40k plus. Thanks so much for watching!
