So we did it for free. Tiny little trailer roof, but I promise you that kid will never treat our install crews like shit. Ever. Not after that experience!!
I worked as a production manager for a "restoration" type roofing company for a while. It was all geared around sales, no training whatsoever, and most of the sales people were former car sales people or B2B sales people. My first 6 months was just trying to get a handle on what the sales people were promising customers. It was a nightmare. The light tubes are pretty easy to install, I've done quite a few of them. And I saw one comment on the traditional skylights saying they should always be replaced, that is absolutely not true. The units on that roof are Velux brand, and I have worked with their field reps many times. As long as they are installed properly and the glass seals are in good shape, they can be left in place for decades. If the flashing is damaged during a re roof, Velux has flashing kits for every model they've ever made. I simply love your channel!
I learned a long time ago to check in the middle of the roof for the second layer, some companies when the add second layer will remove bottom shingles and at gables
Yes I've seen that too, that's why I always try to lift up the edge metal and look under. Sometimes they're just cut to the bottom of the edge and sometimes they are completely remove like you're saying. Thanks for commenting on that I forgot to mention that in the video.

Now you know as well as I do you can find a little piece of bad cornerboard somewhere, he would play it up and over estimate what needed to be done, scare the hell out of the lady to where that night she's telling her Husband they have to repaint it immediately, etc. The guy sold 3 times more paint jobs than anybody else in the business.

Buckling decking isn't typically from the house settling. If the house was settling you would notice other issues like a drywall plaster cracking inside first. Sounds like it could be possibly be a piece of loose decking or something heating with moisture causing it to buckle. If you can get a picture of it and email it over to one of the emails you can find on the about page and I'll look at it.

We're constantly having to meet with our salesmen about missed things that we have to eat, or promising too much. Fortunately the company I work for always does the right thing by the homeowner. With that said, ridge vent is part of the insulation system and not a part of the roof ventilation system. In order for ridge vent to work properly, baffles are installed from the eaves to the ridge and insulation is then installed in-between the rafters causing a continuous cushion of air in-between the roof decking and the insulation because air is a poor heat/cold conductor. So if your insulation system is installed correctly, the attic space should stay at a relative temperature to the interior regardless of the weather conditions outside. Your videos are awesome, teaching homeowners what to expect and hopefully inspiring a younger generation to try the trades which can be a very lucrative career, and currently the median age for the trade is 45, so keep inspiring.👍 Thanks 🙈🙉🙊
@SomeDumUsrName I don't like arguing so I'll advise you to please read what ridge vent is and what it is a part of. I've been doing this work since 1987, I take what I do seriously. I went to school for carpentry. I was a union carpenter and a union roofer. I've gotten certified by almost every manufacturer for installation of their products. Ridge vent is part of a system, not a stand alone product. It is supposed to be used in conjunction with baffles that extend from the eaves to the peak and are placed in-between the rafters, you are then supposed to install insulation atop those baffles in-between the rafters making sure to not block the eaves, the eaves must have a specific minimum of ventilation (there is a mathematical formula to determine the amount in respect to the area). When this system is complete, it creates an air gap between the roof decking and the Attic. Air is your best insulator because it is a poor conductor. If you want or need detailed instructions on how to install this system, every ridge vent manufacturer provides PDFs so that you can learn how to be a roofer and not a shingle 🐒 monkey.
