- Tourist Gaurav Choudhary, 32, captured the moment their glider aircraft snapped and he and pilot Purushottam Timsina, 22, plummeted to the ground in Kalimpong, West Bengal, India. The footage filmed on his selfie stick shows Mr Choudhary smile turn into a look of horror, as Mr Timsina desperately hold on to him as they start to spin. Mr Timsina's actions likely saved Mr Choudhary's life, as the tourist from Patna, in Bihar, northeast India escaped with a broken leg.

Im a paraglider pilot myself, at one point the camera points to the Ground showing that they are at least 100 meters above the ground, giving the pilot more than enough time to deploy his reserve. The reserve has an opening time of around 1 to 5 seconds depending on the situation. If he instantly threw the reserve they would have both survived.
But my assumtion is that he was not a trained, let alone a licenced biplace pilot who was not even equipped with a reserve wich is just unaxeptably Iresponsible.

For landing quickly these pilots always did that kind of wingover. Obviously for gaining more money by doing multiple flights in a day.
tbh the first thing i saw was the pilot not wearing a safety helmet and no reserve parachute? i may not know a lot about flying but ive seen quite few accidents like these where most survived bc they had emergency parachute, those are literally the basic things to have when flying. @@missdagger1283 :His death details has been mentioned on another UA-cam channel description .
@EastEndery :due to head injury .
There was not detailed information about that incident.
I saw the carabiner fail @ 36 seconds into this video and impact @ 46 seconds. I'm just a student pilot working on my P2 but 10 seconds seems like enough time to throw your reserve chute to me. The reserve bridal should have been connected straight to the harness at a separate point of connection so it would have most likely saved them both if they had a clean deployment. I didn't see it in a chest mounted container connected to the carabiners with the risers so a reserve should have sill functioned properly, even with this catastrophic hardware failure. If this guy was flying with no reserve, especially when taking on the added responsibility of his passengers’ life than I would say he was irresponsible at best but probably criminally negligent. If he had a reserve and was not trained properly on how to use it then he shouldn't have been flying tandems for money. If he froze up and didn’t pull the reserve, then he shouldn’t have been taking people up until he had more SIV training. What a tragedy. I would not use the word hero to describe a describe a reckless pilot that got himself killed. The first thing you learn in training is that you are the pilot, you are responsible for your own safety, no exceptions.
And before that the gear were not fit for flying
I read someone comment from this town that at the time of this: the government banned reserve chutes but have since reinstated them.
where are you learning buddy, my training school made me do 5 flies in P2 , all with a harness not fitted with reserve, when asked they said you wont need it😒, wanted to do P3 but didn't do because of this reason

Hero? Pilot flyed with improper carrabine and without rescue parachute!
आपा नही खोया जाबांज ने ,,,गर्व है भाई💞💞
This video or its description should make it more clear that the other guy didn't survive.
If you fly only once in your life it may be worth the money to fly in Swiss mountains where the views are insanely beautiful and flights are safer. I wanted to rent equipment when I was in Pokhara, Nepal and the paragliding schools did not have any equipment with an emergency parachute, which I was rather shocked. In Switzerland, commercial tandem pilots fly with emergency parachutes, and so do the solo pilots.
We fly with reserve containers pretty much everywhere in the world! And where was his helmet?
Still trying to work out who was the hero?
I fly in Bulgaria with reserve and helmet as everyone else
UK - Reserve & helmet (Paragliding). Skydiving = Main & reserve also. Jeez...I even where a helmet when kiting on the ground, I where a helmet when skateboarding too (the ground is a big hard thing that the force of gravity will ensure that I come into contact with)..
Also, flight-karabiners should be periodically checked and discarded at or even before1500 flying hours or after 5 years, whichever falls earlier.
I would say this guy wasn't exactly into acro at the point of failure, but in losing height by pulling those hook-turns he obviously overloaded the 'biner on the right, you can see it 'let-go'.
