    I have a well stocked emergency kit in my house because of hurricanes but, I never thought to include pencil and paper, ty for that advice. I have kept a small kit in my cars for years, they can be very handy if you travel with kids. Fortunately we live where there are plenty of pharmacy's and hospitals so we don't need an extensive kit like your. You are very smart to include such things as you do. I also hope you never have the need for using your kit. Good advice for all.

    • @FyNyth
      @FyNyth  5 років тому +5

      Unless all your pharmacies are open 24/7 (I know that might be available in some more populated areas I've never lived in) and never affected by things going wrong like power outages, storms, etc. you might still want to have things at hand. :) Hoping that none of us ever need any of this stuff.

    I always carry extra medicine for myself in my car or handbag. Plus soluble aspirin if someone has had a heart attack or stroke. Put it under their tongue to dissolve and it enters their bloodstream faster than it would than dissolving it in water and drinking it.

    Sounds like a great Mom bag! When my son was small I carried a bag with almost the same assortment but for kids. I have always carried many of those items in my own handbag or work bag. I was given a very hard time for it by co-workers and friends, BUT if anyone needed anything like bandaids, aspirin, etc. I was the one they came to. I have always kept extra water and a blanket in my car along with electrical tape (in case radiator hose ruptured). The people that gave me the hardest time were guys. I keep telling everyone that women generally look at personal safety much different than men. I've tried to teach my son much of this including checking into back seats before entering vehicle. So many give me a hard time but I lived alone for 15 years and I had to take care of myself! I'm so glad to see how you care for yourself! Love watching you. You are one amazing woman!

    • @thomasnunya1438
      @thomasnunya1438 5 років тому +2

      That’s a little judgemental no? When hunting, you’re providing healthy meat from animals that lived a perfectly free, normal, natural life, and with an ethical shot, zero suffering involved. The animal is saved from the likely possibility of painful starvation or being literally eaten alive by predators. Some people can but many cannot be healthy as vegetarians because their ancestors adapted to a meat filled diet. Nowadays hunting is probably the only (affordable) way to get healthy protein that isn’t laden with leftovers from pesticides, herbicides, animal biproducts, and antibiotics. If you’re not a vegetarian then you’re only supporting factory farming where the animals suffer their whole lives through. And even a vegetarian supports millions of animals habitats being destroyed for farmland or the animals themselves being scooped up by machinery. I’m not trying to be mean I just want you and anyone else to see the other point of view. Take care and God bless :)

  • @craigmouldey2339
    @craigmouldey2339 5 років тому +3

    You have a lot in that kit. I didn't know or maybe I simply forgot that cayenne can be used to stop bleeding. I knew it could be used to stop a heart attack. So, that is good to know. One suggestion I can offer: You had that product to treat a damaged filling or toothache. I don't think anything works better than clove oil. Earlier in the year one of my molars which had been drilled to death and filled and filled decided to develop a hairline crack all the way around the tooth. I"m rural and it was Saturday and that spells a nightmare. I applied 2 or 3 drops of oil to a swab and rubbed it all over the tooth and repeated as needed. It stopped the ache. I wasn't able to find anyone to remove it until Wednesday so I walked around more than 4 days with a volcano in my mouth. If not for the clove oil, I honestly don't know what I would have done.
    I share your sentiments about city life compared to country life. The bears are fine. It is people who are dangerous.

    • @FyNyth
      @FyNyth  5 років тому +2

      Clove oil is great for stopping the pain! This kit is to actually fill in a little hole temporarily so you don't have food coming in direct contact with a nerve or sharp broken edges scratching your tongue. :) So the two together could be a great combo in the right circumstances.

    • @tetontom1

      @@FyNyth .... it is a good combo. Old first aid called for mixing zinc oxide powder with clove oil to form either a thick or thin paste to use as a temporary filling, pack a broken tooth or sticking a crown back on using this as a thin seal. Basically that's what the more recent kits I've seen are......

    If you can squeeze a tag more in the box, might consider adding a small tube of Bacitracin, some moleskin, stich/sewing kit, Leatherman or Swiss Army Knife, and an epi-pen.

    This was wonderful,. Because I live in a city it's easy to get lax about having emergency supplies, but I also live in earthquake country and it's always shocking how quickly, even in cities, basic supplies and medical help can be cut off. One thing I'd add, because I had a recent severe allergic reaction, is benedryl. I have a son with allergies so generally have some in my purse. My throat started swelling shut (never determined the source) and I was able to take several. The emergency room doctors (who gave me an immediate IV of benedryl to arrest the reaction) said it could have been what kept me breathing. I now carry an epi pen too, but just having benedryl on hand could be live saving until you could get to a hospital.

    • @FyNyth

Might I suggest a length of duct tape wrapped around the lighter or pencil perhaps and tube of super glue to close wounds (having resorted to using it on the arch of my foot when I sliced it open on a soup lid, after sterilization...ouch!!! I sealed it out a large bandage on it and kept walking minimal scaring), length of Paracord can wrap around the outside of medkit,x

    Hand Sanitizers: What a HOT topic!!! I’ve been researching this one for years and still with no firm medical reports one way or another. All I know is when I was in South Africa for 3 weeks, hand sanitizer & antibacterial wipes were in every car. If you didn’t use them, you were setting yourself up BIG-TIME in contacting an “unknown virus” unknown to mankind ...which no antibiotics or any doctor could possibly help you with. I think about that each time I gas up at the pump now ...

    Hello beautiful and Burley too great first aid kit Burley would be able patch you right up. 🙄 Something i my self like to keep a pack of in first aid kit is super glue. Super glue was designed for military front line medics for severe cut applications and could save a life. When I had surgery to my stomach the surgeon used it to close the outer section of skin, nurses knew who did my surgery by the way he closed it. My scar is neat looking others i have seen looks like they opened them up with a chainsaw. But for cut's that are on the hand nuskin isn't strong enough. And no it's main use was medical but people figured out that it will almost stick anything together. Ariel give Burley a big hug for me and you be safe. ✌🐓🤘🖖😎

    Great information and I will put together a kit! I have various purchased kits which thankfully I have never needed but I think they are all old and in need of review/replacement and some different items for both me and my pets. One thing I have done in my home and I think I’ll do a mini version for my vehicles ... After 2 or 3 incidents (not close together, but still I should have learned from the first!) of slicing a finger or some part of my hand and struggling on my own to keep bleeding in check while one handed trying to get bandage stuff open and applied ... I created a little ER kit with some of the stick to itself gauze, a few sizes of sterile pads and they are in a small zip. Hopefully, if needed, it will be easier to 1 handed get something on a wound so my bathroom doesn’t look like something out of CSI!

      On preparedness: for me a level of preparedness gives me confidence. I live on wooded acreage with lots of treed acreage around me. Wildfire as well as just a house fire is a concern. I have a dog and a cat. The cat is a concern as they tend to hide when frightened. So, I have actually practiced a routine of searching quickly: small house and I can close off rooms so systematic but I had to test my routine with a chimney fire last winter (worked!). I also have an "Emergency Go" list in my entry: the order of what to do depending how much time I have. None of us can plan for every conceivable emergency but a little thought to preparedness is worth a level of confidence to me.

    Very nice kit! A bottle (perhaps the 250ML size would fit) of sterile Normal Saline for Irrigation could be added for a wound cleanser especially since you have the irrigation syringe. (Although the saline would not be sterile after you run it through a non-sterile syringe so pouring from the bottle would be better if that would cleanse the wound.) And I would add a trash bag (bigger than the zip locks) in case you need a way to clean up biohazardous waste after the emergency such as bloody gauze or perhaps your big towel if it were to get blood or other biohazardous material on it. Not necessary but just a thought since you've been so thorough.

    • @FyNyth
      @FyNyth  5 років тому +1

      Not a bad idea. Having the bottle of alcohol would allow for creating a sterile syringe. You look up PREPARED in the dictionary... yeah for a second there I thought your SAM was a FRAM as in oil filter for the car 😆 And you know it's a statistical fact that your preparing so well actually WILL prevent the bad thing from thing from happening, I swear those items also work as good luck charms.
    My kid is getting to the point in cub scouts where we start letting them cut things with knives, hatchets, make fires, archery, BB guns etc. and on knife day we had to be super careful because none of us very responsible adults had thought to bring a first aid kit except for one of those dinky vehicular premade things, in not my glove box 🙄.. we'll try to at least bring a few cut & burn care items for the activity at hand. tcg♥︎ some days, writing you a note is the best part.

    Thanks, great 1st aid kit, I have a small kit in my car and a kit in the house, but it always scares me that a lot of people don't have anything or any idea what to do if things go wrong a specially since we don't have an emergency unit or even ambulance service close by, in rush hour traffic it's about an hour to get to hospital it's not far but we're on a peninsula 1 road out, and yes people have died because of this.

      Well hopefully this will encourage maybe at least one person to have something with them sometime they would not have otherwise and maybe save a person some day. It is sad how few folks plan for the ordinary things that go wrong in life.

    Have a small first aid kit in my car and my small fishing boat but yours is way more comprehensive. You probably started a run on those plastic ammo cans. Hope you don't ever need yours for yourself, take care.

    Love it! I have actually put together several medical survival kits however, my mistake was using smaller containers. Your ammo box is perfect. I already checked it out. BTW, your cotton towels have always caught my eye so whilst on your Amazon page, I BOUGHT THEM! I'm weak. Just please tell me they are super absorbent. :-)

    • @FyNyth
      @FyNyth  5 років тому +2

      I use them for all kinds of things. In the kitchen and else wear. I think you'll like them. If they are not absorbent enough out of the package, give them a wash and they will be.

    Thank you Ariel for sharing another excellent video with the rest of us. You have a very comprehensive First Aid kit and if I may add a suggestion to add to your First Aid kit, and that would be about 5 yards or more of duck tape or even a roll of electrical tape etc it actually works a lot better than what a bandage does for times when you may have to improvise a large bandage from your towel for any large wounds when regular bandages and gauze is not going to work to protect the wound, such as a sucking wound in the chest that needs to be as air tight as possible, and/or large wounds in the arms or legs etc.. If you don't have room inside the first aid kit just wrap the duck tape around the outside of your first aid kit so it can be readily available to use.
    Thank you again for sharing your time with the rest of us. Very Respectfully, dd

      You are welcome. Good tips. Those things are already in my "vehicle kit" along with stuff like, tools, extra fluids, lightbulbs, fuses, belts, flashlight, raincoat, etc. and that always lives in the car too. :)

    Interesting video/list. I think I have almost everything that you do = just recently put a larger kit together to carry in the RV, separate from my smaller car one. I will double check your Amazon list against what I have.
    I’d be curious to know what you do use (if anything) for pain management. Do you ever get sore muscles, female cramps, etc.? Do you use arnica/montana for example?
    Thanks!

    • @FyNyth
      @FyNyth  5 років тому +1

      Yes I do use arnica for sore muscles. For menstrual cramps this has been the most effective thing I've ever used - mothernaturesmountain.com/product/herbal-pain-reducer/ . Advil/Ibuprofen/Aspirin/etc never really seem to help pain for me personally.

    Ariel, I believe that I could survive better in an accident, living close to you and with your knowledge, way out in the Country, than living in my own neighborhood, where there are people and house's all over the place. Ariel, good information. I learned something new from this. How do things do in the cold temps? I would think that the hydrogen peroxide would freeze up being in the car out in winter.

    • @FyNyth
      @FyNyth  5 років тому

      Depending on the concentration, it can require very cold temps to actually freeze. -27F apparently for 35% concentration. But mine probably does get slushy at times.

    • @dfhepner
      @dfhepner 5 років тому +1

      @@FyNyth The H2O2 that you have is 3% which has a freezing point only a few degrees below water. 35% concentration is close to rocket fuel.

    What type of hiking boot do you use and or recommend ? I was at REI not long ago, and tried on a pr. Of Obo boots. Think that was the name. VERY MORE COMFTORABLE compared to my Merrell and Keen hiking boots. Thanks again. 🎃🐾🎃🐾🎃

      You're welcome! I have worn Vivo Barefoot trail runners for backpacking for years now. amzn.to/2VSPFbM is one of the one's I've walked through. Like most shoe companies they change the colors etc every year. I love the light weight, rapid drying, etc. though if you are new to lighter shoes that put your feet in more contact with the ground and rocks, I recommend starting slow so your feet can strengthen. I never wear hiking boots or anything heavy.
