    Up until the video turns into night-time, I keep looking at that side window and the snow falling gently outside. So lovely.

    Hi Ariel! Good point about having stuff in the van for "just in case" circumstances. I tell my family to pack extra items in their vehicles for just such an occasion. It is Wyoming and you never know what you are going to get weather-wise. Its nice to be prepared!

      I do the same "bug out vehicle" preps. I can signal help, cook, keep warm, whatever I have to until help arrives or weather improves

    At first I thought - "Winter Clothing," I live in Minnesota, that sounds boring. But I found it very informative. We do need many different kinds of jackets depending on the weather. We had a really cold spell this winter, below zero, for weeks. I wore my Columbia heavy, silver reflective material inside, coat everyday. I was never cold. We get tons of wind here. It gets brutal.

    Very informative. I like that you can speak from work and play experience and product knowledge. My son just got a wool blanket for his birthday. He is very excited about it. Set up the tent in the back yard to try it out. My grandad was a cattle farmer...had Nubian goats too...he used an old towel for a scarf. Would wrap it around and zip it up under his coat. He layered a lot too. There were some very cold and windy days out spreading hay for cattle and looking for momma cows and newborn babies in the woods in the middle of the night.

    Wool wool wool LOVE the wool. Impressed to see you wearing Muks/winter mocs....absolute the best winter cold foot wear EVER...I live in my winter mocs with wool felt liners. Look into Thermohair wool socks...awesome socks.
    Too bad you like cotton against your skin and not a good merino wool....and your right about the amazing wicking ability of wool's and couple that with a cotton canvas outer shell it is amazing how little clothing one needs in deep cold
    Fully baffled down puffies are the ultimate in warmth. Down like wool is awesome stuff that no man made fiber can come close too touching.
    Well Done Ariel and awesome to see someone who knows HOW to dress for the cold..well almost...got to toss that cotton base layer..haha

    Hi Ariel;
    My only suggestion or addition to your list would be to wear a pair of poly propylene socks as my base layer, then Smartwool socks. Also, if you are out in the wet snow and your gloves will get wet, add a pair of surgical gloves inside my gloves (usually smart wool) to keep your hands warm. I work in the snow at our local ski area in Big Bear. Happy Trails! Skip

    • @FyNyth
      @FyNyth  6 років тому

      Different things work for different people for sure. I generally try avoid anything poly against my skin.Thankfully where I live it's very rarely wet enough in the winter to need the glove trick, usually too cold. :)

    I am so glad I found this video! We moved to the Smoky Mountains a few years ago after living in a hot coastal climate for 45+ years. But Darn Tough (Merino Wool) yes, pricey, but they have a lifetime guarantee. They "dare" you to wear a hole in them and if you do, they replace them for free. I replaced them 3 times while hiking the Pacific Crest Trail and only ever had issues replacing them at REI. Farm to feet is a great brand too! 😀

    I love all of your videos! And I think I love your tiny house? I lived in a 750 square foot apartment for 30 years, and I always thought it was way too much space for only me. I could live happily in a tiny house, but I don't know about living in Wyoming? Winter in northern Ohio is long enough for me. Grizzly would be more energetic if she had another dog's butt to sniff. lol. Did your generator's carburetor have to be re tuned to operate at your higher elevation? I was reading my Honda generator manual and it said that it would need a special carburetor to run at elevations higher than 5,000 feet, and that running that version at lower elevation would eventually ruin the engine.

    • @FyNyth

      Why thank you! You are very kind and I'm glad you enjoy the videos. People do often ask the same questions over and over, so if anyone cares to share with other's how easy it is to use the little search bar on a channel's home page to find any videos they've done on a particular topic. (ua-cam.com/users/fynyth and then click on the little eyeglass toward the right hand side which lets you search that channel for any word you are interested in.) That would save me the time of looking up and sharing the link to each video that answers the question that person is asking. :) As far as donations, there is this info linked at the bottom of the "show more" description under every video. "Many thanks to all of you amazing people! If you really value the info you find on my channel, are very comfortable yourself, and want to help out with things here, there are two ways to do so that are a huge help to me!

    Ariel, Good information . I have heard that wet wool will still keep you warm. I have had a bad experience with with Smartwool socks as they develop holes very soon. I have switched to Fits brand and found that they last a long time.

    • @FyNyth
      @FyNyth  6 років тому

      Well I've heard that too, and I think "warm" is a bit of a stretch.... I think wet wool doesn't make you as cold as fast as most other fibers.... :) I've generally had a pretty good lifespan from my socks, but I'm sure there are plenty of other great brands as well.

    Hello again, that was a nice easy watch but clothes bla blah lol your voice is nice to lesion too. Maybe more window in the background , I like watching snow falling. Got to thinking about your garden mulch herb aside issues. I will tell you my family secret on this but it will cost you some food. So I tell you , you owe me something good you make (I like all meats) deal,,taps foot great good answer. So here we go, start a fire in your fire ring, large pot or can holds 2gal or more , get two big handfuls of the mulch you want to bedd with and drop it in. Next fill with spring water and let it come to a boil, while that's working you need a white stick like ash, birch some type of light colored wood. Now your ready,, step 1 smell the steam smells bad-is bad that's what your veggies are going to smell like when boiled, step 2 pull all the mulch out of the pot or as much as you can, take the can off the fire and let cool a few mins ,look on top of the water for shining (any kind of film) should be just a little not a tar pit lol. It's the colors we are looking for ;no purples no greens no pinks as you dip your stick in over and over to stain it , we only want browns yellows and blacks stains on the stick to much whites more dead the mulch. Hope this helps 🏔

    Eight months of winter??? You have us beat. We have four to six months of winter in Southern Ontario and the temperatures can drop to - 30 to -40 Celcius with the wind chill. We're not in the mountains but near the great lakes, so we tend to have a more damp cold and the snow can get extremely heavy. But as you say, it's all about layers! Unfortunately, I can't touch wool, I'm so allergic to it. Just hearing the word makes my skin crawl. I too love cotton!!
    We also experience extreme temperatures in the summer that can go to 30 to 40 degrees celius or higher. Again, it's damp here near the lakes so we often have 100% humidity. I can't even imagine frost in the summer!! I will go and check out any videos you might have about your garden. I'm not sure how you protect crops in that kind of weather...

    I'm with Grizzly on this topic! Just the facts Mam! I just got am email from Muck that they will be replacing my 8 month old Muck Boots that came appart. I wanted to believe that Muck boots were of a high enough quality that they would last year's if not tens of years but not so. The uppers and sole separated at the seam and have been very disappointing. So as of now the best part of the boots is the 1yr warranty. ... I'm NOT expecting the replacement boots to last either so if you're looking for good boots try and find a brand with more than a year on the warranty.

    • @FyNyth
      @FyNyth  6 років тому

      That's too bad. For many years Muck Boots have been great, recently though, it seems the quality has dropped significantly. My pair is still like new after more than three years....

    What kind/brand of wool socks do you have? I'm sensitive to wool, can bring discomfort like being stung by ants and raising welts or itchy bumps, especially if I perspire. 😬

      I have quite a few. While some wood shirts and pants do irritate me, I've never had a problem with any socks. I've had Bridgedale, Smartwood, Point 6, Ice Breaker, etc. and I hear Darn Tough is really good but I haven't had a pair yet.

      That was her teeth, all in a couple hours. The first time I learned that she'd developed some separation anxiety issues. We're working through that and it dasn't happened again.

    What do you wear to the beach?

    • @FyNyth
      @FyNyth  6 років тому

      Beach? In Wyoming, beaches require dry suits, in the summer, just to prevent dying of hypothermia. ;)

    Nice base wool black zipper shirt, what's the name on that, is like to get one :)

    • @FyNyth
      @FyNyth  6 років тому

      The quarter zip wool is Smartwool (something like this amzn.to/2nm4cfp but since I've had that one for years and got it out of someone's throw away pile, I don't know exactly which of their many tops it is) and the full zip one is Ibex (something like this amzn.to/2rL5OV9 but again, I've had mine for a while and it was a closeout when I bought it).

      Gym, about 13 miles from a town with a grocery store, 90 miles from one with a Walmart.

      If you give them a shot, you might find that either wool or silk long underwear are very comfortable when it's cold. I don't know a man who goes without them around here!

      I thought while watching that I'm glad you don't use clickbait. 😊 Could attract the wrong kind of attention and comments. 😝😱 No problem with the video, as a previous person said, "tastefully done." Thank you, very helpful for anyone in many ways! 👏👍❄️❄️

    Looks like grizzly needs his nails clipped, your poor door. My wife has the same issue with her hands. Per her doctor, when winter approaches she increases her intake of turkey or chicken breast, peanuts, tuna, mushrooms and peas which are all high in Niacin.

      That would be teeth actually, all in a couple hours. Grizzly and I are trying to work through some pretty serious separation anxiety issue here apparently. Thanks for the tips, I do eat a lot of all those things except peanuts due to being allergic to them.
