I remember I gasped and almost cried when I found this biom myself. It was amazing. Also my favorite thing for shimmer is changing the items. Can now easily make cellphone on my other characters without making that many quests. And finally did terraspark on my main character! Still in awe how awesome it is how it breaks items. Watching Zenith go into their components is just wow
@@isaaclopezruiz9597 I think the best way to fix that is just to remove the crafting recipe for timers. Items like Neptune’s Shell have had retconned recipes before, so it wouldn’t be anything new. And plus, 1 timer is pretty expensive to craft with a watch and everything, at that point a majority of players would just buy at the Mechanic anyways
Had Terraria since it's first release. Remember having to jump over a single block tile. Been one of my favorites games to play and relax, build and explore. Watching how far this game has come has been awesome, and makes me feel old. :)
I actually couldn't keep playing in the jump up one block days. I played for a bit, and had some fun, but couldn't stick with it. 1.2 got me hooked tho
Despite everything, I kinda miss Terraria's pre-v1.0.6 balance. No classes or crits, just raw damage and buffs. You could craft the Depth Meter, too! ...though, building was pretty sucky, so that's always annoying.
I first got it on mobile, when they first added the mech bosses to mobile. So still a long time ago, but probably not nearly as long as you people. (My ipod can't use the new updates, so it's still stuck at the version where plantera was added)
Love these videos K! Just a small correction - there’s *two* items that can’t be “crafted” using shimmer until post-ML. One makes you teleport, the other cleans up corruption/crimson.
Yeah, I had already recorded that vocal line by the time I discovered the terraformer, and just missed that single word when watching my video for mistakes, haha
@@sargassum136 You don’t need shimmer to craft the bucket, and although you technically need to defeat ML to get Luminite bars, you can still craft it before defeating him (e.g., taking luminite from another world or by using journey mode)
I think ReLogic should add an NPC, perhaps Post-Moonlord, that can tell you what happens to an item when thrown into the shimmer, like the Guide does with crafting materials
I don’t think that’s worth it, as you can just as easily chuck it in to find out instead. If they do want to add a feature like this though, they should just add a post-ml additional guide option.
About NPC transmutation. Instead of depending on statue RNG, you can build a house flooded in shimmer and asign the NPC to that house yourself. This method is quicker when it's raining or at night time
Hey Khaios, I was recently playing 1.4.4 and found a cool item for builders like you. It's called the "Stinkbug Blocker," which has another version called "Ghostly Stinkbug Blocker." You craft it at a workbench (with ecto mist for the ghostly version) using 1 Stinkbug, and when placed in a home, it makes it so NPCs won't move in. I think this could be useful for any fully furnished builds where you don't want any NPCs moving into them, but still want that home aesthetic. I imagine it can also be useful for Player homes.
One interesting quirk with item dismantling: For potions, it doesn't actually return all of the items. To account for the alchemy table, items seem to have about a 75% chance of being returned (Not sure if that number is what's actually used, but on average your return from the alchemy table is 4/3rds so multiplying that by 3/4ths would bring you back to 1). Standard health and mana potions can't be dismantled at all in shimmer too.
Immunity items become their corresponding item when thrown in shimmer (bezoar becomes adhesive bandage), making the Ankh shield so much easier to obtain
Use Shimmer with argon and xenon moss as well as crystal blocks and its phenomenal. I also am so gonna incorporate this stuff into my hallow builds because it fits really well.
I'm loving the huge influx of Terraria videos by all the content creators. I have played only a single world on my phone for over 300 hrs on just Normal mode. I was quite afraid of pushing into harder difficulties because of the fear of grinding. However, now with these QoL changes, I'm really excited to try out the harder difficulties! QoL stuff like the shimmer is such a great thing to have!
I was deading the lava charm farm already, I forgot about this recipe. The ahnk charm is way easier to get too, as you can change spare acessories to get their counterpart. This even works pre hardmode.
Hey Khaios, I have had a LOT of trouble finding this cave, I have 3 angel statues for some reason and I can't describe how much this helped, also there is a new axe that can be made with copper/tin axe staff of regrowth, vines make the axe of regrowth, this plants acorns after breaking trees. The Ancient Bricks actually made me squeal. Copper, Silver, Gold, Dungeon, Hellstone, Obsidian, Cobalt, Mythril all become their old 1.1 brick versions! I kinda hated the new cobalt so this is a super welcome change!
Im really glad I played several hours of 1.4.4 before watching any videos - it was such a treat after playing for 10 years and seeing this new biome for the very first time unspoiled - WOW!! Labor of Love was the perfect name for this update. You can tell a lot of love went into making this game was it is - as well as all the love from the community and mods. Terraria is easily in my top 3 all time favorite games every played and I doubt it will drop lower than that anytime soon.
Between the faeling thing, ores degrading when you throw them in, and the player going insubstantial, the shimmer seems very destructive. It reminds me of the movie Annihilation- it’s strangely beautiful but also incredibly dangerous.
16:06 you can just build a town in the shimmer biome and scare the NPCs into falling into the liquid by smacking them with the new Flymeal sword. I reccomend reforging it to broken so the NPCs don't die.
Shimmer is one of the best things in the update imo, also if you haven’t seen the Mappy Gaming video it’s crazy he is breaking the game again as usual. So close to 300k let’s go Also how to find it, I found on small worlds it was often way closer to the ocean sometimes under the beach, but I think you’re right about the larger world sizes. And I have only searched a couple.
I have a large world on expert where it was relatively close to the beach. there's the jungle, and I dug straight down to find the temple at the bottom and the shimmer on the way. Then toward the west there's a small desert then the beach. Actually I think it's just the beach I'm calling a "small desert." I'd have to go look.
When I found the Aether mini biome I immediately wanted the song for the area. When I hopped into the liquid and phased I immediately thought it would be a neat way to get into a secret underground base or something similar.
why do u have under 1 mil, you have the energy and high quality of a BIG youtuber that would have a ton of subs, but u still keep that underrated channel feel.
As someone who loves wiring teleporters up all over my world (so will have wiring over there already anyway), pumping shimmer to my base would absolutely be worth the effort!
I love deconstructing so much. Especially on journey mode because there's a few things that can help with researching. Needed diamonds, threw in a magic mirror. Need multiple of a critter to research it fully? Craft one into the terrarium version which only needs 1 to research, then deconstruct a whole stack of them.
Shimmer also reminds me slightly of the Mystic Forge of Guild Wars 2. Technically, you use a crafting menu of sorts to "throw" items into the shimmering liquid, but it returns a transformed version of the item(s) you placed into the forge.
out of all the videos and tips I looked at, this one actually helped me find the biome! I'm a new player so I never knew what the Aether was until I started searching about biomes in Terraria lol. I had tried to find it but every time I found something I thought was going to help, it just failed me, but this didn't, so thank you!
The well of wishing is a good metaphor, especially due to the fact that coins thrown in get destroyed and give you luck. I made a skyblock map "Shimmering Skies" based on the liquid and the remix and zenith secret seeds. Any new tricks and obscure interactions with those 3 things help me to improve it. I did not know about the shell phone not uncrafting.
Shimmer causing the player to phase through blocks honestly feels like a bug that Re-Logic just decided to keep in the game. Then again, that might be because of its similarities with hoiking.
I remember the days when the underworld had the lava layer background. The good times, the "innocent" times, the ones where I got kicked out of my account and was forced to replay the tutorial over and over. The tutorial island, filled with holes, iron, and gold, and a fall directly to hell. I'll remember those days, and cherish them very much.
This is the only game i still play after about 7-8 years and still manage to find new things and have fun. These updates they do are so awesome i remember back before fishing was invented. We had to use spears.

I'm so glad I randomly found the shimmer today. I've been searching EVERYWHERE for a lava charm. I'm pretty sure I have found a few magma stones. Finding the shimmer led me to your video since I knew almost nothing about it. Now I should be able to finish my Terraspark boots.

Best thing to do with the shimmer and Ather biome is to make the journey to drag a wire from the shimmer pool to world spawn or your base along with a teleporter, having a ready shimmer pool right at your spawn and base is so convenient, and with the emtpy space full of stone you can make the old space into a really easy mob farm with little to no effort

When me and my friend first found the aether, we dug a little tunnel so we did not fall all the way out, it works quite well actually. Don't jump in if someone is in that tunnel though, because they can place blocks and make you keep falling down through the blocks, I had a good laugh with this but my friend will probably get revenge...

downgrading is also useful outside of building; if you need slime crowns or ironskin potions and you have a lot of extra orichalcum you can get the ores for those

The shimmer makes the ankh charm grind easier aswell since instead of getting a pocket mirror from a medusa, you can just throw the much more common blindfold into the shimmer.
Im so glad transmutation doesn't fully work pre moonlord. I was worried when i saw that you could find this liquid from the beggining of the game, making all of those upgradable items obsolete, since you would instantly throw them in shimmer.

You can also throw in luminite bricks to get some pretty cool new blocks, depending on the moon phase

It is maybe just me, but this shimmer will be an excellent part of a hallowed themed build. Or just a part of a hallow custom biome in general.

Hey you forgot to mention that projectiles act in different ways when in contact of shimmer
When me and my friend first found the aether, we dug a little tunnel so we did not fall all the way out, it works quite well actually. Don't jump in if someone is in that tunnel though, because they can place blocks and make you keep falling down through the blocks, I had a good laugh with this but my friend will probably get revenge...
I hope you included the fact most of it's Interactions are Progression locked... I couldn't Devalue Gems in my Aether in Prehard mode
none of it is progression locked except for the post ml stuff like the rod of harmony

downgrading is also useful outside of building; if you need slime crowns or ironskin potions and you have a lot of extra orichalcum you can get the ores for those
oh. my. gosh. Khaios, THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO! I had heard the "shimmer is only for post-moonlord worlds" and just decided I wouldn't look into it until I beat Moonlord (which, despite 900 hours in the game, I've never done >.
Shimmer is pretty much just an original super cool Quality of Life feature, thats what it aims at doing and what it does.
Haven't found a better terrarria youtuber. It's not possible.

The shimmer makes the ankh charm grind easier aswell since instead of getting a pocket mirror from a medusa, you can just throw the much more common blindfold into the shimmer.

Im so glad transmutation doesn't fully work pre moonlord. I was worried when i saw that you could find this liquid from the beggining of the game, making all of those upgradable items obsolete, since you would instantly throw them in shimmer.
