this video unironically changed my life. i've seen a lot of people put the tape under their stabs but what you do with them truly gave me an awakening moment. had to get out of bed and immediately mod my stabs the same way you do.
Dude, you're getting better/faster at typing in English! As always, great video. I'm honestly not that into keyboards or tech in general but I always enjoy your videos nonetheless. I can tell you put a lot of time and effort into them, and I'm happy to support someone as dedicated as you are. Keep up the amazing work!
I love when the stabilizers are being adjusted and the part where you make sure they're firmly locked in using tape, it's so satisfying to see them so sturdy!
Fr, I never knew why they applied tape in those spots till now. Especially after seeing him testing the sound then going back to apply more tape and seeing the immediate difference.
Attention to detail and the dedication to perfection is unmatched as of currently. Love it! This is what makes a perfectionist like me enjoy the hobby.
Oh, damn, I never keep track on not flipping the wire after balancing it, this could explain why sometimes it seemed fine while balancing, but bad when installed. I wish I knew this earlier, thanks for the info
I was watching and reading things about (custom) mechanical keyboards for some days now (right now i'm using Logitech G513 with Cherry MX Brown, they feel... not very good). And this video convinced me to order the GamaKay K61 with Gateron Yellow Switches, a lube station, a switch opener, some brushes and lube! I hope - even if I'm a total noob / beginner on the matter - I will be able to be able to get close to your typing experience on this keyboard! Great video and great channel by the way! I absolutely love your aesthetic and your videos.
Using fabric tape to prevent the wobble of plate mount stabilizers is truly an excellent idea, many thanks! I just applied it to my Pulsar PCMK (which has factory lubed stabilizers but they're a bit wobbly) and it turned out even better than I'd hoped for, all of the annoying noises are now completely gone!
Do u have any plans on making some sort of tutorial on how to lube switches, what differences there are in lubes and where to lube for what type of switch? I would love to lube my switches but I have no idea where/how to start and dont want to mess up my switches :-)
Might not. Cuz I've been showing many lube styles through my videos and there are a lot of other UA-camrs' videos you can refer to. And most importantly, everything is totally up to your preference. So, just get some hints from the videos, make your own.
I bought womier k87, the tkl version of this board with gateron blacks just because I saw ur mod video. That was 2 weeks ago now u make me want another one.
Finished my first MKB build yesterday. Got a used Corsair K70 and lubed and swapped in Box Royals. Haven’t spent any time actually using it yet, but it sounds and feels amazing so far 😍😍.
almost one year later, here I am watching this video for a few times already while waiting for my k61 to arrive. Will use your video as tutorial if i ever decide to start modding it.
How on earth to you get your Stabilizers so perfect first time, every time. I'm on my second keyboard (Third set of Stabs) and have had to settle for mediocre stabilizers due to a loud metallic tic on one side of the key which then leads to a mushy stab when I build up the amount of grease..
i was going crazy because my spacebar was doing the same "tic on one side" thing, then i came across wildcat's tip on how to balance the stabs, which is to twist the "unbalanced" side. i used pliers to do so. i also apply lube generously but not excessively, i just made sure every friction point is covered. now im obsessed with pressing the spacebar to the point that i'll press it even if i'm not doing anything because it sounds so satisfying lmao
Hey, dude. Just passing to tell that, thanks to you I'm getting into MKs and modding them. I'm deeply thankfull to you for sparking a passion of electronics in me so much that I'll start a course to learn about circuits and eletronics components soon. Cheers, keep up the awesome work!
I hope GamaKay release a 87 or 61 keys with bluetooth. Ah! This week I received my order for switches, NK Blueberry. Really smoth on press, and feels more the tact when the key is press. I lubed with Kritox mix 105+205 and spirit springs slow 63.5.
I really like your content man. Thanks to you i am getting my first custom keeb, its nothing much but its a start! Ik im that one person but, been here since 50k.
Once lubed gat yellows are among the best sounding switches for the cost (if not at the top). The higher pitch can be mellowed out with some good lube 👍
@@jameslafollette7932 hi, what actually filming switches does? After lubing they sound good but should i also try to film it not so sure. What do you think?
Ah yess home form work beer in hand to sit down and enjoy the wonderful work of :3ildcat perfect video as always :) got to say them gateron yellows a wonder to hear when lubed up they sound soo good take care
Just modded a GK68S with Gateron silent blacks using your vids. Everything is perfect except the spacebar !! Taped, lubed adjusted.....:((. I think I'll get some Zugear stabs. The switches are all dreamy though. Thank you for all these amazing vids. You are inspirational :))
I have this keyboard (K87 variant) with the very same switch (gat yel), and yes, they sound and feel cheap at stock, the ABS thin keycaps does not help also, and all the stabilized keys wooble a lot, high pitchy sound, the switches itself woobles a lot on the hotswap's slots (even if its 5 pin), overall it doest not feel a solid typing experience. BUT.... The RGB is just gorgeous, at the price point I guess its a very good buy for begginers, but definitelly lubbing will make it more pleasent overall.
Wildcat, that part where you explained that which section to lube to reduce bottom out sound is great! As a newcomer, I wouldn't know about that. Like on my current board I am facing a lot of ping on stock gateron silent ink blacks. Which part should I lube to get rid of the ping?
What is the best silent/satisfying and tactile switch I can get a pack of 90 for under $40? I love your content so I feel like youre the best person to go to this for.
I think if it was modded with foam it’d sound even better, I’m planning on getting one in a few weeks or so, at least i know i should probably lube it.
I worked on the stabs for my k87 for so long for mediocre results that i just blamed the stabs for probably being cheap.. but seeing that you achieved no rattle... might have to take a stab at the stabs again 😐🙃
this video unironically changed my life. i've seen a lot of people put the tape under their stabs but what you do with them truly gave me an awakening moment. had to get out of bed and immediately mod my stabs the same way you do.

incredible improvement over stock and has respectable sound overall. almost sounds like a tactile build.
