I thought you meant the best first headphone we can own. But you meant the best first headphone in a company😅
could be both
Since Sundara is recommended heavily as a beginner headphone and this rates the same or somewhat better than Sundara, you can conclude that this can be a good beginner headphone.
I thought that was a pretty clear statement
hhhhh me too
Clickbait at its best
Would definitely LIKE to hear more about the Aune AR5000, please!
Definitely requesting a 300 dollar headphone comparison👌🏻👌🏻
There would take 6 months because it is a lot of $300 headphones discounted or not
I got them about one week ago and with the iBasso DX260 (with fast roll-off filter and no FIR, mid or even high gain), they are extremely impressive for the money. They sound lively, play everything without effort over the whole frequency range, and yes, even more bass heavy music genres are so much fun with these open phones (since Aune implemented a good dynamic driver design). But IMHO the most joy and best strength bring out genres like female vocals, singer songwriter, folk, classic, ambient. The headspace is quite large, meaning that sound stage is wide and really sufficiently deep, too. Separation is phenomenal at this price point and speed as well as attack from the drivers add to incredible dynamics. They seem to be fairly neutral with a bit more represented upper mids and highs. Mids themselves truly are revealing (as I said, female vocals shine in the AR5000) and when it comes to mid-bass, also this is relatively punchy and precisely tuned. What surprised me the most was the sub-bass, because I wouldn't have expected to be so beautifully present (when it's in the recording obviously).... I'm happy that in the lower frequencies they are not to much tuned "for the general customer" (like marketing of Sony, Bose and beats is doing), they play in a whole different league, but cost more or less the same. Aune's first headphones are a keeper and well invested money. Last but not least, they are pretty easy to drive, so you don't necessarily have to hook them up to powerful amps, most USB dongles do the job very well with them... but they also scale well with better amps of course (which shows the reserves this headphone has).
thanks for the mini review
Appreciate the short review!
How is the built quality? And how Is the treble ? Is it shouty?
@@calvinyip364 The highs are definitely not shouty. They are decently crisp and detailed. I can't hear any sibilance and to that point, these cans are for me perfectly tuned for this price point. Fun, engaging, but no fatiguing treble and no wannabe bass push to please the Sony and Beats fanboys. They are playing in the upper class without the harsh price tag.
Thank you for the review. Do you think they'd pair well with a Fiio K7? Semi competitive gaming will be the main focus.
Great video as per usual! would love to hear about the Gaming aspect of those headphones. keep up the great work...
More videos on these headphones would be great, edition xs comparison?
Thank you for the discovery and recommendation. And someone please recognise this man for the best-in-class cinematography and styling of his videos. I would say it is one of the best on UA-cam land as far as production values go. Keep it up Joshua. It's a pleasure watching your videos.
I definitely would like to hear more about the AR5000. This looks right in my wheelhouse. Thanks Josh.
I'll be ordering either the FiiO Q15, thanks to your comments.
Rev. Thomas,

@@ReverendDr.Thomas You won’t regret it..!
Finally!!! A review of these babies. Been holding off until I got to see a few more folks review them. I can get them for around $260. Looks like I'll finally pull the trigger a couple months from now. Should complement my HE400SE and Fiio JT1 well.
Those FiiO are muddier than a freshly-irrigated paddock.
@@ReverendDr.Thomas hard to complain for $40 :)
@@ReverendDr.ThomasI actually love them! If it add velour pads or any perforated pads you can reduce the bass. Quite competent!
Thanks for the review! What cable are you using with these headphones (the pink one)? It looks nice!
I remember many years ago asking you for my 1st recommendation and getting the 58x Jubilee...I still listen to them every now and again even with my Hifimans, Audeze, and Focals sitting around...So lite weight and warm sounding.
The HD 600 effect.. you might have better, but the 600 series has an unbelievable staying power
I heard these in a audio store on a cayin jazz 80 and was extremely surprised, fantastic headphone for sure
Please do a gaming/imaging review with these!
Hi Joshua, I love your channel and your reviews. I would be really curious to see your opinion on the DT 900 PRO X and the zollo Audio S5X
Dt 900 pro x are just fabulous headphones
I bought the AR5000 on a whim when i bought the S17 headphone amp. I thought they seemed a decent headphone for the price. I was seriously blown away at the performance to price ratio. They were much better than i was expecting. I use mine a lot.
Can we do mixing on this? Is this good for music production, mixing, & mastering? How does it compare to the Sennheiser 490 Pro & the Audeze MM-100?
@@rionvalet I only use mine for listening to music. They're not particularly flat so i'm not sure how good they would be for mastering and mixing. I just like their tone and sound signature, plus they're really light and comfortable.
Are they nice for kpop, jpop? And female vocals? Like Taeyeon , aespa.
@@calvinyip364 They're good with vocals, but i couldn't tell you about kpop or jpop as i don't listen to them.
@@markflower8885 I see. Thanks
To your point Joshua: To test the AR5000 for good sound stage examples, which include elements of your mentioned "behind sound presentation", try (especially the beginning) of Pink Floyd's Alan’s Psychedelic Breakfast, Roger Water's Too Much Rope, and King Crimson's Providence. 🤘
1 vote for a gaming oriented video. Thanks!
josh doesn't really game though?
@@chrisk3127 then what is he doing there “doing” hell divers 🥹
He said just get the PC38X for gaming, just like DMS
If you don’t need a boom-mic which in every case is worse than a standalone mic, you should consider the HD560S for gaming & music or the HD800 OG/S if price is no object :)
@@Tssukiii frech reviews also recommends the Zeus elite, on the same level as the 800S at less than half the price, he has very detailed gaming reviews so I'd trust him with that.
Very good accurate description of the AR5000 sound signature. I use my set with my iphone but with an iFi iDSD BL, Apple Music listening on the go is so Fun! Do a review of AR5000 as a gaming headset plse
Hey Josh! I'm considering getting this headphone very soon! If you could go through with that idea of making a video about this headphone's gaming potential that would help me immensely! Thanks
This flew completely under my radar. This is such an underserved price point for good quality headphones. MM-100 was solid, but I prefer planars for mixing work and DDs for casual listening.
I prefer the OPPOSITE. I use the OLLO S4R for mixing (as well as several others).
I've never bought something so quickly after a review. This sounds EXACTLY like my type of headphone preference.
Believe me, you won't be dissapointed. Very well spent 300 bucks IMO.
Please do an extra video on these for gaming! I wonder if this could be an alternative for Maxwells.
This is how you do it. Great review! I've been very critical of recent reviews on the channel so i feel like i have to give some praise too when a video like this drops. Improved structure, accurate comparisons to well known headphones that compete at the price point, giving off good vibes while presenting the product and cinematic b-roll as always. A complete review plus a way to let the viewers decide if they wanna see a more specific comparison.
Small thing i'd personally change, the track that played from around 3:00 to 5:30 was a bit too loud, which stood out compared to the silent background before and after and made it harder to focus on your voice. Maybe could've covered amp synergy more, but thats ok at the price point i suppose.
Otherwise i'd say this was a really nice review.
As someone who owns the HD660S2 will make sense owning these?
These are the perfect cans for watching movies. They feel like speakers on your head
I ordered one. Can't wait to see how it really translates from Josh's perspective to my own.
Looking forward to that gaming review for this headphone!👍
Awesome review. I think I found my upgrade. I have a lot of experience with IEMs but very little with headphones. I have the Sony MDR-7506, the Philips SHP9600 and a couple gaming headphones, but that's it. I have realized that the main things I like more about open back headphones over IEMs is the size of the sound and the open, wide soundstage. I particularly like the SHP9600 in these regards. I've also known for a long time through my experience with many sets of IEMs that I am treble sensitive and I enjoy somewhat darker, more subdued treble. Actually, though, it doesn't sound dark to me, it just sounds correct. I think the Aune AR5000 ticks all the right boxes and will suit my preferences very well.
Yes, please do a dedicated gaming video on these, especially for warzone.
I'd love to see a specific gaming video of this!
Is this or sundara better for Gaming?
Heck yeah I want a gaming video for this pair of cans!!!
What monitor is that for the gaming bit Joshua? And do you use that for productivity work as well? Thanks
Josh is looking fit! Keep it up.
Josh you should definitely review the Sivga Luan that is on the 300-350 category and has a warm/thick tonality🤌
@Josh If you had to pick one between these and the sundara, as a first time buyer, which ones are you going with?
Can you please compare this to the Moondrop Para? They sit at the exact same price point and I feel like that would be a very interesting comparison.
I guess this is what was missing in this price range - a good, well done, slightly warmer/ darker option vs the neutral approach of hd600 and the clarity focused, upper tilted Sundara. Great!
Bought this pair a few months back, just because they had good price, and not expecting anything. Boy, was I glad I made the purchase decision. They sit well among the HD600, the Sundara, and the Harmonicdyne Zeus in my collection. They are that good.
Can we do mixing on this? Is this good for music production, mixing, & mastering? How does it compare to the Sennheiser 490 Pro & the Audeze MM-100?
@@rionvalet I don't have those 2 headphones, unfortunately.
@@verboten8 oh okay, it's okay. But can we do mixing on these ar5000?
@@rionvalet maybe? I don't have any experience in audio mixing.
HD600, Sundara, and soon to be AR5000 user here too!
I wish you compared this with 660s2, sony & senn latest studio headphones. You literally have later one in broll footage.
Is there any chance you will review the focal stellia, its a weird omision since you have reviewed all the other focal headset
Recently I bought their S9c pro and thought I would try their headphones as well as, I bought the s9c as it was so well reviewed by a gentleman in England, 13th note?, so I bought the AR5000 with the AR3 upgrade cable and it can't stop listening. I had the HD600 with Topping before and this combo blows them away.
If you could do a review for gaming with these and compare them to the Sundara's for gaming that'd be great!
Would love to see a follow up for gaming performance.
loving the background man!
and... for democracy!
Whick you like more this or hd660s2 which have more forgiving and lush and dense sound of the two...your pick up?
Already ordered mine as I was in the market for a new pair of headphones, around the $200-$300 price range, to upgrade to after my Hifiman HE400se unceremoniously died. In the last week or so, I was super torn between buying the Sennheiser HD6xx or Hifiman Sundara, that is until I saw your review. There's still not a lot of YT reviews around for this pair (at least in English) so I was so happy to at least get your take on this pair.
After further research, the consensus I got was that this is a decent middle ground between the Sennheiser HD6xx series and the Hifiman Sundara... not particularly ground-breaking in any specific area, but more like a "jack of all trades, master of none" sort of deal that takes a lot of the strengths from the 2 other headphones while trying to address some of their respective weaknesses, to a certain extent. Can't wait to be able to receive the set and judge for myself 😊
I have the sundara and 600.. And i think im going to drop the money on this and sell the sundara on if i prefer this. The sundara is better for critical listening to music thanks to the subbass, technicality and better soundstage, but the 600 idnt far off and it sounds more like one melded responce without any frequency standing out, very cohesive which is what I use for everything that isnt purely music..
@@mikafoxx2717hopefully you can update once you get it. Love to hear what you think about them. I took ordered them but it's pre order.
But I own hd600 , hd58x and he400se. So this would be a good welcome.
Please do an updat on how it sounds when yours arrives? Mine need to wait to next month. And i am lucky only 1 seller in my country sells this headphone. And i bought them.
@@calvinyip364 I've had them for a few days now and I can definitely concur that most of the reviews I've seen and read were very accurate. It's a slightly-warm neutral sounding pair of headphones, which is perfect for me.
Clear enough treble without it being too bright or sparkly (I'm very sensitive to the higher frequencies). Transparent mids that aren't shoutty or distracting. Adequate and natural bass that's fast and concise enough. The common theme with these characteristics is that they may not break the $300 market, but they seem to tick a lot of the boxes that I look for in a headphone, at least in terms of sound. As for comfort, these are quite arguably the most comfy headphones I've owned in quite a while.
They're certainly a solid contender when it comes to best value-for-performance when you have a $300 budget... and can be proudly recommended alongside the Hifiman Sundara and Sennheiser HD600.
Excellent review, didnt know aune had a headphone, I have the s9c dac and the aune s17pro, both are exceptional so I surmised that the headphone would be good prior to watching the review and I was right. Aune is doing great things, Excellent gear that competes well as best in class at their price points. Last thing I need is yet another headphone, but this has me intrigued.
So the question is for immersive gaming do I keep the sundara with some mild eq changes or do I save up for a pair of these? I don't really care about being competitive, I care about good immersive sound with wide sound stage and accurate imaging and so far the sundara has been serving me well for that. These look promising though.
These Headphones are FUNNNNN...I just auditioned these headphones here in Toronto. One of the most comfortable listening experience, physical weight wise and musically as well. These are quite bass heavy for its open back chassis. Vocals and Instruments have a thick note weight and really good technicalities. Vocals are on the forefront which makes it a very engaging listen. I'd prefer this over the HD560s and the new 620. Get this HP for gaming and music listening at home. Enjoyed this HP. I wish my iems could sound like these.
Nice. How do thy sound for female vocals? And is it muffle or veil sounding? Is it good for pop genre?
Josh, do you know if sennheiser will release a closed back hd 600 with the same frequency response, same midrange response, same treble response, same bass response, same timbre, same sound stage and same imaging? I'm also looking for a closed back sennheiser hd 560s as well while being exactly the same but closed back instead of open back.
Incredible headphone! Aune AR5000 replaced my easy to drive HD560s for gaming and for the "on the go" purpose.
I was about to buy a 560s soon. Is this much better than it for gaming?
I would also like to know, do you is there any bleed in like the H560s has?
@@Robin-ky8vr I don't get the question...
@@mickeylickey stick with 560s.
@@danieleturrin5625 its easy. I have ananda from Hifiman and is AR5000 compared to this any good?
I have the m50x headphones that I use with a smsl su1 going into the topping a70pro. I would love to see a follow-up focusing on gaming. I also see comments all the time saying the headphones I have are the worst, so I've been looking at some of the $300 ones.
How do they compare against the HD-490 pro?
Can we do mixing on this? Is this good for music production, mixing, & mastering? How does it compare to the Sennheiser 490 Pro & the Audeze MM-100?
From what he says in the video. I would think that you need something more neutral.
At the price the Edition XS has been for the last year, it kinda enters this category. How does this headphone compare to the Edition XS? I think would be an amazing video if you're planing to do a comparison type video in the future.
I would also like to know, i purchased xs and aune for both 300 and will return one.
@@Robin-ky8vrso which did you kept? Which sounds better?
This is would definitely be a great choice, but I am happy with my purchase of the Sundara. To those debating between the two, here's why. I run Equalizer APO and have tuned the headphone to my own hearing so the bass is thick (7-8db boost) and the harshness in the 6k and 8.5-9.5k region is completely gone. I also added a slight boost to the 2k-3k region as this supposedly helps with soundstage/imaging (Audio Science Reviews). All of this, combined with planar speed and powerful balanced amp (Fiio K7 Pro) means that the sound is better than anything else I can think of around this price point. And I think the Sundara, with my set up, presents the most complete package out of the three headphones in this video.
When you mean gaming i assume u mean competitive? Would love a bit about open world/immersive games too. Or even stuff like battlefield 1/5 and helldivers like you showed
Love how they look, kind of remind me a hifiman susvara
Lately reviews are focused on preference curves... what's good for mixing/mastering for playback on avg systems
I have these and had the hd600 and the Sundara. These are way more fun to listen to, especially compared to the Sundara. And, my guess is that unlike the Sundara, these won't fall apart after 4 months.
Is it similar to the Meze 109 Pro in terms of weighty sound?
I'm a bit confused. Most other reviews state that these are bright in the upper mids and lower treble, but you referred to them as dark. Just trying to gage how the presence region is presented with these. Also, did you burn this set in for any period of time before the review? This seems to be mentioned as a must in other reviews a lot as well.
How would you say this compares to the TYGR 300R?
How they compare to Sivga 023, Fiio FT5 and Ollo s5x?
would love a gaming focussed review of these headphones with a comparison to others at the price range!
For gaming there are not any big differences with good headphones (Crinacle has a video on this)
You can consider the HD560S f.e.
The best price no object is the HD800 OG/S
Below that the 560S / PC38x should do absolutely fine.
You won’t beat an enemy with a better headphone if you wouldn’t beat him with a worse one. It doesn’t give you that much of an advantage.
For immersion (also good for movies) try something more bassy such as the Fidelio X2HR f.e. (I wouldn’t use them for music though)
I would suggest that every review has a small section about gaming performance maybe some comments on strengths and possible best genres, that gives a pretty good picture without investing a lot of time
I remember Aune E1 earbuds with beryl driver, really liked them, so I am not surpriced headphones turned out good too.
So, the real conpetition is the dt880 pro because:
sundara= no image
Hd600= no soundstage
Would you take the Aune AR5000 or the Hifiman XS at both 300€ ?
This is a weird comparison, but how do they compare to the LCD-2Cs?
Please do Aune AR5000 vs Hifiman Sundara! I am looking to buy a new one at this price
well shit i want these now. i have the hifiman he-x4, but have since kinda shelved them for the sennheiser ie300s for almost a year now. the iems are just more convenient, comfortable, and sound isolating for my environment. definitely keeping these in mind. also would definitely want to hear ur thoughts on gaming performance
I have He-X4 too! But I mainly use HD600 now. 👋
@@gavinxq2274 i havent used mine in a while since ive gotten the ie300s. i might try using them a little again here and there. i mainly remember the sound staging and sound clarity was amazing compared to the pc 37x i had previously
How would you rank the aune ar5000? Sundara , hd600?
Does it really sound noticeably better than the $180 M570?
Do you think this would work with the Asus Rog Ally?
Would this headphone do well with instrumental music? I listen to a lot of jazz and classical.
These IMO are exactly the music genres where the AR5000 shines and is most capable of displaying its strengths. apart from classic music and jazz, you can add female vocals, singer songwriter, ambient electronic, folk, and everything acoustic.
Can you share your eq settings?
Are these dt880 with a touch less treble?
Спасибо, Джошуа, за обзоры. Пожалуйста, сделай опыт эксплуатации через пару месяцев.
I'm actually going to get this headphone.
I just bought a Arctis Steelseries Nova Wireless yesterday and this video poped up. Gosh darn it 😭
why
These or the 490 Pro?
Is this better than HD6XX?
Can anyone tell me if the shure srh840 is still good these days?
Do you guys recommend this over or atleast equally to the HD600s and Sundaras? Cause its on a 229usd discount here in my country.
Although I might just buy the hd560s instead tho since its at 149usd in amazon. Since it also said to have a great soundstage and build quality, and thats a bit of my priority.
It's not "just" released. They are on the market for couple months already.
Review denon d7200
It has similar characteristics
Are the Edition XS simply better headphones or just a bit different? Anyone tried both? The are the same price in my country
different kind of sound tbh
I feel like the overwhelming majority interpretation of that title is people think in terms of "consumer/buyer's first" not "manufacturer's first," but I could be wrong.
To me it sounds better than HD600, especially in terms of bass and soundstage. Great, affordable headphone.
Dedicated vid please 👍
not bad looking for the price.
This has a very good build quality compared to the Sundara.
I did think it was a planar and am bummed because I was looking to try my first planar.
Fellow Helldiver we require a gaming video on this headset, for democracy
Feels like Aune pulled a blon move.. they just got stupid lucky with the tuning result. I have the 600 and sundara and this feels like it's the best of both in one. Less hot treble, perfect subbass extension but no midbass hump, no sucked mids, better soundstage.. easy to drive. I think im going to blow my money on this and sell the sundara if i like this better. The 600 ain't going anywhere, it was mailed to me, secod hand, in only a bubble envelope, dirt cheap, and it works fine. Meanwhile I dont want to even risk dropping the Sundara..
What did u end up deciding?
Looking for qualities that help with gaming isnt really that important in my opinion. A lot of it just comes down to the freq response and the game your playing. There should be data online you can find for the frequencies to boost depending on the game your playing to hear positioning or footsteps better.
Gaming video please!
Seems like Edition XS might be better, and not much more.
