    That was the time when we had a leader in Canada with dignity. Pierre Trudeau was unique, there will never be another one like him.👊👊🇨🇦

    Stirs up memories, speaking as someone who is from Canada. Delightful to see how comfortable and assertive he could be and the others knew it. And my home is very large county with a 10th of the Population. Dare say on the inside one could allow little bit of a chuckle don't quite no how to express that properly. RIP to both.🤠👍

    Mr. Trudeau’s so-called “peace initiative” was inconsequential and unnoticed. The trifecta of Mrs. Thatcher, President Reagan and Pope John Paul II were game changers with respect to the decline of the Soviet Union.

      I think you need to go back and re-visit Trudeau's philosophy and political bent... he was a wanna be Castro.... His son, devoid of his dad's intelligence, relies on photo-opps instead to advance that same cancerous mentality. Both managed to run up debt that crushes a decade or more of future children... Justin has out-done dad... we're looking at 20+ yrs of aftermath from his 'trust-fund economics'.

    • @alvindurochermtl
      @alvindurochermtl 2 роки тому +2

      @@LanceLaCroix No country is ever without national debt and Canada is never going to be a wealthy nation, because traditionally we rely too much on a commodity economy and commodity prices do fluctuate and we have a small population and small market size despite we have a large geographical stretch and harsh weather that require infrastructure building as a natural course of any nation's development. That combination of factors is by no means one prime minister's fault whether you like it or not. Then it is also the fact that it was under the old Trudeau Canada obtained our new own constitution and more independence as a nation from Britain. And if you are so concerned about the economy the Quebec separatist nonsense was exactly what did it to Montreal which then was a great world city. Old Trudeau did what he can to crush and I don't think young Trudeau will have the balls to do the same. You can't take that away from the old man.

  • @ElectoneGuy

    This was a very dangerous time in the Cold War. There was instability in the Soviet Union with change in leadership there and the build-up of nuclear weapons was rampant on both sides.

    This meeting was perfunctory. Reagan administration officials had agreed beforehand to meet Trudeau for reasons of politeness and PR purposes but would ignore his peace initiative and apparently advised officials in Washington that the meeting was not really of any great concern.
