- Throughout his years of studying thousands of horses, Doug Carpenter developed a very accurate tell that would signify if a horse was going to be a big stopper. He’d watch the horses walk, paying particular attention to their hind ends. If they walked really wide behind, they were going to be big, powerful stoppers.

Guys like Doug Carpenter, who can tell how a horse will develop, truly amaze me. Doug Williamson also has this perception. I wish I knew how to cultivate this ability. It's like having a crystal ball. Of course step one is to look at a lot of horses. 😉
