In the first one, when Matthews looks back at Yeager, he's not popping off, he's making sure Yeager was OK because he hit him with his bat in the follow through. You can see Yeager grabbing his hand.
Miss Harry Kalas and i wasnt even a Phillie Fan....Great voice Classic!!..I was at Nats Park when he died ...I was Sad to hear it!! All i could think of during the game of hearing that he died there...where i was.
Great video. I was in attendance on a Saturday night 1983 when Matthew's hit the home run off Jerry Ruess. Also, in attendance 1993 Kim Batise walk off.
0:49 Watch carefully, Sarge hit Yeager in his throwing with his follow thru. Sarge checked to see if he was OK. Watch carefully, the bat hits Yeager, Matthews knows he hit him and looks at him. It wasn't a staredown. Yeager put his head down out of pain...Not embarrassment
As a huge Dodger fan I remember watching this, Gary Mathews was like Babe Ruth in that series. He was on fire. This was a transition year for Dodgers, they mistakenly let Ron Cey and Steve Garvey go and promoted Greg Brock and Mike Marshall. Big mistake, Brock was a big time Bust and Marshal had only a few decent years. I think the Dodgers would have at least had a change with Garvey and Cey.
@4:39....There’s LOWELL PALMER....Mr. Sunglasses himself...congrats to RICK WISE...the only pitcher in Major League history to throw a no-hitter while hammering TWO Homeruns in the same game....
Story has it that Callison left his helmet on the team bus en route to Shea Stadium....when called to bat, he borrowed the helmet of Met legend, Ed Kranepool..
I don't know which one your grandpa is but I would love if you said hi to him for me, also if he's interested I would love to give him an interview. If I had to guess though I would say your grandfather is Rick Wise

Harry missed that one, but he was in the moment...I'm sure he corrected himself
That bat flip was epic lol
I saw Sarge Matthews as a Cub in 1984. Fantastic hard-charging guy.
@@TheBatugan77I liked him as a color commentator for the Phillies
A lot of people forget how good Darren Daulton was before injuries ruined him. What an arm.
Injuries plagued him his whole career
Miss Harry and Whitey.
Wish I could ever find more footage or radio broadcast of that 1950 pennant winner

Me too T
Bro thank you so much for these. My granddad and my old man have enjoyed these so much

Sarge was before his time. He'd be a bat flippin' fool in today's game. #swag
Oh I miss the good ol days! I went to The Vet more times than I can remember!
RIP Kim Batiste
Love those pinstriped uniforms
The last one was the last home game Harry broadcast.
Rick Wise threw a no-hitter as well as hitting two homers in the game. Wow!
Then was traded the next year for Steve Carlton who went on to win 27 of the Phillies 59 wins in 1972.
And he did it against the Big Red Machine!
Amazing 😘
Gary Matthew's taunt & stare @ catcher Yeager after he hit the ball & at home plate after the trot was gangsta

SARGE!
@5:00...who is that Met/Yankee legend wearing #37 and cheering on Johnny Callison after his game winning homerun

🔥SARGE🔥
Anyone notice Callison is not wearing a Phillies helmet? You can see the Phils cap under the Mets helmet around 5:00

Nothing obscure about Sarge’s 3 run bomb….1983 NLCS!
My grandpa is in this video. Which one is he?
3:38 There's Grandpa. He was a great pitcher. Tell him I said "Hi"...and thank him for one of the dominant performances by a Ballplayer ever
I will be telling my grandpa, if you tell me correctly which one is him, hi for you!
