    "What a comeback by this fightin' bunch of Phils!" Delivered as only the late, great Harry Kalas could. He's been gone over a decade, and I still miss hearing him call Phillies games.

      Tom McCarthy has done a really good job as Phillies announcer since he took over , but the reality is there will never be a great broadcaster in Phillies history like Harry kalas. NEVER

    I get goosebumps every time I hear Harry the K. He was so special, no one has nor will call a Phils game better. I miss him more & more but thankful to have been around to listen to the genuine joy he brought to every game!

    Andy Musser’s call of Schmidt’s tie-breaking home run in Montreal IS a classic! The best modern call of a significant event in a Phillies game. It was awesome! 💯

    • @jimsensenig892
      @jimsensenig892 2 роки тому +3

      Yes, it was. I was so glad for Andy. He took a back seat to Harry/Whitey (who were so very great) but his call on Schmidt's HR was absolutely spot-on perfect..Short and memorable: "He buried it! He buried it!"

      How could I forget that one! Andy at his best!
      I was listening to the game on my 9 volt AM transistor radio.
      I was at the Spectrum attending a Blue Oyster Cult concert that almost didn't go to because this game was still going on.

    Anytime I get to hear Harry and/or Whitey is a good time. I am so proud and happy for the time that we had Jim Thome, not only one of the greatest sluggers of all time, but a true class act and genuine good person.

    • @robertchutonogbanua2564
      @robertchutonogbanua2564 8 місяців тому

      Yes indeed. I wish the Phillies had Thome longer were it not for Ryan Howard. What we learned since then is that Jim Thome was the Hall of Fame player and Ryan Howard (although spectacular for a few seasons) was ultimately not. The Phillies should have kept Thome and traded Ryan Howard.

    I grew up listening to Harry K., Whitey, and Andy Musser on the radio and T.V. I was at the Vet to see Game 6 (1980). I remember sitting on the edge of my seat through the NLCS series that year as the broadcast team orchestrated an emotional rollercoaster. Growing up, I did not know that not every kid in the world was so blessed to have been given the magic living baseball with such a grand accompaniment. Magnificent.

    The sound of Harry’s voice takes me back to my days as a youth running around during the summer months as the folks sat out front and listened to the Phillies on the transistor drinking cold PBR’s or Schaefers. Ahh simpler times. Harry was a treasurer.

    Michael Jack Schmidt’s 500th jack is left off this? That may be one best calls from Harry Kalas: “ Here’s the stretch by Robinson. The 3-0 pitch ... swing and a long drive! There it is! Number 500! The career 500th homerun for Michael Jack Schmidt and the Phillies have regained the lead in Pittsburgh, 8 to 6 ...”

    I’m surprised the last out of Jim Bunning’s 1964 perfect game isn’t on this list (and that’s really saying something coming from a die-hard Mets fan). Mike Schmidt’s 500th career home run (a game-winner in Pittsburgh) was also omitted, that happened on my 17th birthday in 1987.

    Mike Schmidt was a beast by today's standards. Schmidt's #1 in my book as the greatest Phillie ever. As for Jim Thome, who knows what could have been had he remained a Phillie? Ryan Howard was amazing for the 2008 Phillies as well. It's tough when you have two great first-basemen at the same time who can't play any other position. Had there been a DH in the NL in 2006, Thome could have been the DH while Howard played 1B or vice versa. What a lineup that would have been!

  • @frankpalancio8471

    Why did Andy Musser call the Schmidt homerun in Montreal? If that was late in the game, shouldn't that be Harry Kalas? Great call by Musser though, he nailed it. One of my friends saw Musser out in public in the 80's and said that his wife was drop dead gorgeous. Lol 😋

    • @bobflorich5348

      Musser’s radio call was the more epic call with the “he buried it”. Harry Kalas was on TV, channel 17 for that inning. I remember leaving my grandparents house just before Rose led off and hearing the home run in the car on the radio.

    Not much on the announcing but Bruntlett's unassited triple play was a thing of beauty. If the mets weren't greedy and runners hadn't been going, they'd at least have scored one possibly two to tie the game.

    All the undeserved grief Philly fans get from others about us not winning anything, being a loser city, etc.? Show 'em this.
    And then, if they still give us grief, you have several other videos like this one... DeSean Jackson's punt return... Flyers comeback from 3-0 vs. Boston... Super Bowl 52... Matt Stairs HR that *still* hasn't landed... etc.
