The Audible version totally brings Stella Maris to life. It’s by far the best way to really enjoy this.

I think the most harrowing part of Stella Maris is when Alicia describes in detail the Lake Tahoe plan. That shook me as bad as the scene in Blood Meridian where the two Delawares are bashing babies against rocks.
I also see The Passenger and Stella Maris as one book

My favorite movie as well (Koyaanisqatsi). Incredible two-part discussion of this novel. I wish I had glimpsed some of the hopeful that you bring up at the very end - perhaps in a re-read or another time, or perhaps this time makes spotting the hopeful one our the most difficult challenges. Thanks for these videos, they are an important part of the scholarship and discussion around this novel.

This is the best take on the book I've seen so far. Well done.

I really recommend Fernando Zalamea's Synthetic Philosophy of Contemporary Mathematics.
A colombian mathematician and philosopher advocating for turning away from analytic philosophy of mathematics because it's very distant and unaware of contemporary advanced mathematical developments, as a living discipline, and its real practice.

The Border Trilogy All the Pretty Horses. This novel, and No Country For Old Men, is the most plot driven books and it’s also filled with gorgeous language.

These are the ones I usually recommend to readers who haven't read McCarthy before - all excellent choices.

Suttree just can not seemed to be bested in my book. And in the need to read anything else I guess goes to preference. Maybe in the future I'll take it but my approach to reading is evolving and I agree with late Bloom on too much to read, and so little the time we have on this world to read everything.

Suttree will go down as his greatest book but I wouldn't argue with anyone who says it is Blood Meridian (or The Border Trilogy).
Lately I feel more and more that I just want to reread the masterpieces I've already gotten to because it feels even more of a waste to read a new book that is below them. I've never had this experience as a reader before so we'll see where it takes me.

@@Orpheuslament I always enjoy fedding the birds. The Sorrows of Satan Quote which holds true for critics and also for us. We must amass those that speak into us and become one unto us and not mar the sunlight with even one storm cloud. Great video

I took these twinning volumes as an ironical criticism of esoteric sciences.

Having only read The Road and Blood Meridian, would you recommend I read more of McCarthy's catalogue before attempting to jump into his latest novels? I without a doubt want to read everything he has written, but I'm unsure of the pathway I should take. Would it be okay to jump into The Passenger and Stella Maris as my next Cormac venture? Nice hearing your insightful thoughts by the way.

I'm against the idea that there are ideal paths to reading because you can always reread and reset your opinions. That being said you have a perfect foundation for jumping into the Passenger and Stella Maris with minimal slippage.
You can look forward to reading Suttree and The Border Trilogy in the future as well.

You didn't ask for my opinion, and please pardon the comment intrusion, but the new diptych seems to encapsulate prior work. Although I agree with Orpheus's reply to you, you may want to consider reading Cormac in chronology. He took so long to germinate each project, and now approaching 90 years in age, this could be a coda, and I came away from the new works feeling prior work was part of its distillation, an experience both sublime and subliminal having read his early work prior. I won't expand on that, to avoid coming off as a critic or scholar, but there is a short story he wrote in college that you can easily find on the net called Wake for Susan you could start with. He wrote another, called A Drowning Incident, as well. But Orpheus is right, and McCarthy is a writer one returns to.

Alicia comes across as a Mathematical Platonist, while McCarthy has stated that he is a materialist. I think that puts to bed whether Alicia is a mouthpiece or not.
