What's up with Japanese saying "We tried to sing" and then completely annihilated the song?
It's a tag nowadays rather than a statement. It used to be a descriptor, nowadays it's just the tag. If you know of them, Utaites popularised it from the japanese "utattemita" = "tried to sing"
the っていた verb ending is past-continuation form so idk if "we tried to sing" would be a good translation but rather like "I sang"
It just means cover xD

Visually, the art is super charming and cute! The warm colour scheme throughout the video despite both of you having cool toned colours matches very well. The lyrics are well formatted and well edited into the mv. It looks like the lyrics are dancing to your singing which is very cute! Also I appreciate the EN captions!!
For the singing, Izuru and Astel have very distinct vocals! Sometimes that can create an imbalance where the two sounds are trying to dominate each other but that doesn’t happen here! In fact, you both harmonise extremely well and highlight each other’s uniqueness! Not just that, but both of your voices bring out a type of upbeat youthfulness and hope to this song!
I also like how you split up the lyrics! It’s like you two are telling your vulnerabilities to each other, finding strength from each other, and then deciding to give us the audience that same strength and support! If I had to sum it up, this song sung by you two sounds like being held by the sun. Warm and caring.
