as a kid I loved these and those pages where you draw a line connecting dots by number to make an animal/shape, they were so very fun especially if you couldn't tell the shape before it was almost done
This site looks really fun to try! Especially the photo one. It begins looking like nothing, then it looks like nothing but colorful, then, out of nowhere, it looks like a real image! Just magical. PS: I like that the people who made the site were very proud of how they did it, because they added a lot of technical stuff on the settings. "K-means clustering", "Facet building", "border segmentation"... and we, holding our paint brushes, are all like: "this is cool!!"
I was not expecting the last one to be good, that style of painting is always interesting to me and wonder how people think can do this and is patient to do this
When I was in high school, we had to do something similar to the photo one for a project! Take a photo portrait, posterize it in photoshop, print it out, grid it, draw the edges on a canvas, and paint. But we had to make sure that we kept the edges _crisp_, and the paint as untextured as possible. The project _was_ inspired by the artist that made the Obama poster! It's nice to know that there's a less annoying way to do it c:
I love the color blocky poster art style. I do it in illustrator all the time. You can even turn the blobs of color into geometric shapes! I’m not very creative but I love coloring and painting so it works well for me 😂
This is just what I needed! I've been wanting to get into painting for so long. I have paints, brushes, palletes and all but I was too afraid to jump into the waters. I'm off to find paint by number kits! Thanks Kasey!!
Translating the comment above: Hi Kasey, hopefully you'll translate this comment! I'm from Argentina and watch your videos since you started. I wanted to say that you've become a part of my life and a companion. I watch all your videos almost religiously (I don't miss even one) and I wanted to express that I think you do things really well because sometimes it's nice to hear. I really admire you and I'd like to make a living from my art the way you do. I'm about to graduate as an architect and I see you as an inspiration. Thank you for your dedication. A big kiss, Palo. (Tambien soy de Argentina :P)
The artist of the Obama hope poster is named Shepard Fairey. He’s also a diabetic and created the Andre the giant art that blew up. He’s a very cool, modern, talented artist. Definitely worth looking into if you see this comment!
Kasey..when I was younger I clearly remember watching your videos I reckon I was in middle school but now my art style is somewhat different but you can still see something of yours.. but thanks :) I remember enjoying your videos a lot:..
I thing I sometimes do when paint mixing isn't going that well is taking just a small portion and continuing with that. So let's say I'm making orange, but is starts out too reddish, I will add yellow to just a small portion of that. The leftover reddish orange might end up being wasted, but at least I saved a some yellow as I needed less to achieve the correct orange. And I always have some reddish orange in case I add to much yellow.
Ooo it seems so fun and relaxing to do. Btw, I think the style is called posterization because in Clip Studio Paint and Photoshop, there is posterization mode for your artworks.
I would be super interested to see a paint-by-numbers but you go with random colors, so no guide and like a draw out of a hat and see what it looks like in the end
Hullo Kasey, SO F U N ! I recall when I tried to make one of my paintings into a puzzle. This seems more fun and easier! My 3 Shasta’s painting, Mount Shasta, Lake Shasta, Shasta Dam. The sky was a big field of blue in the puzzle maker said this is no good you need more interest in the sky, well I had put plenty of energy into making that gradient nice gradual and to me, perfect! Maybe I’ll try this paint by number deal on that painting. Thanks again for showing us a fun creative way to make art Kasey. You take care have fun and say hi to Dave for us
i feel like it's kinda like a monochrome pallet but with two so like a duochrome? like two colors but using different shades?? i'm not sure but i love it!!!
(this made me feel better about my painting 1 class last year. my prof always told me I mixed too much paint but it's all about adding a little this then a little that!! lolol)
The Obama poster was done by Shepard Fairey. He is a kinda indie underground artist best know for his Obey Giant work. Been around since I believe the late 80's. Very popular in punk rock scene
That Obama artwork is from Shephard Fairey, a street artist. He created stencils, I believe, to create a lot of his street art, which when you think about it, it’s very similar to a paint by number lol
The last one was so cool! I think it’s called poster style or perhaps the google result refers to the Lenin posters in socialist times? I did have a little ‘oh Casey’ moment when you mentioned the colour mixing. I looooove mixing colours. But it turned out great. Also it’s much harder from either a computer screen or a print out. Can’t tell you how much paint I get on my phone when I’m digitally colour matching. Can you tell I’m excited about this video by the amount of talking I’m doing? Okay bye now 👋
At the end there i was a little confused. Haha i was like "I can be your angle???" I didn't get what you meant until you said "or your devil" and then I realized you meant "angel" 😊
You were talking about how the photo color by number piece was starting to look like an Obama poster? But honestly, it reminds me more of tv girls album cover “who really cares”!
How did you get it to just print black and white? The black and white setting on my printer causes the dark areas to be shaded in. How can I just print purely black and white?
as a kid I loved these and those pages where you draw a line connecting dots by number to make an animal/shape, they were so very fun especially if you couldn't tell the shape before it was almost done
Their called dot to dots and you can usually find them in the magazine section at a store if you want to find it 😅

The photo one turned out so good! Looked really difficult though!

Well… I officially don’t see paint by numbers as cheesy anymore! I think Kasey just legitimized it for me!😂
I was not expecting the last one to be good, that style of painting is always interesting to me and wonder how people think can do this and is patient to do this
Your video ideas are always so creative, and your videos just give a comforting and chilled out vibe.❤

The photo realistic one was kinda insane. At some point it just start feel like a image and not a painting.

You can turn a photo into this portrait style in photoshop by using the tool called posterize

I wonder if there's a setting that keeps the black lines as lines, rather than make you paint them in.
That is super cool! Thanks for letting us know about this paint your own art by number!

I adored these as a kid.
We made pictures in high school where we collaged with torn up newspapers. I think it was supposed to teach value? I remember that mine sucked.

Can you tell I’m excited about this video by the amount of talking I’m doing? Okay bye now 👋
At the end there i was a little confused. Haha i was like "I can be your angle???" I didn't get what you meant until you said "or your devil" and then I realized you meant "angel" 😊
