I believe you are The David leffel of realism. Your depth in knowledge is rare. Your serene tone, calm soul, everything makes learning so truly an enjoyable experience. Thank you very much . We need this during this time in life.
Wow! Very informative. I learned a few new things and especially liked the way the ellipse was put together. I've never seen it done quite like that. 👍
I have just discovered your channel, I am now a faithful follower!!! I have struggled with elipses for ages and this method is brilliant!!! Thank you so much!!!
I am watching on UA-cam. Loving what you are doing! There are folks on all platforms that seem to enjoy being critical. Most of them can do nothing themselves. So sad for them. Guess we can just pass over their comments. Thank you so so much!!! Can hardly wait to get my paints out!
You're very welcome Wendy. I do make a habit of painting over edges whenever I can, when the values of the edge and the background or adjacent area are almost the same. I have a theory (with absolutely no proof!) that it involved the brain in almost creating the missing edge, much liek perception actually works. We tend to scan small areas of an image and then our brains interpolate based on a sampling of the image. We dont' actually "see" the whole thing.
I bought a green bowl with a couple of ridges on it to help me learn how to paint an ellipse so this is exactly what I needed. I guess this student is ready for his teacher to appear just like the saying!
For those still looking for a tool to make grids on a photo --- Proportion Grid Maker is a free program I've been using for a couple years. Very handy.
Don't bother with the people who are negative. You video is great, thank you. Constructive feedback is different of course! Subscribed immediately. I learned and learning from youtube video's about painting not in the art classes.
Very interesting how you used the guide lines to determine the ellipse. I too have wondered if an ellipse has perspective or if it’s equal. I repair and collect clocks and have been wanting to paint some of my antique clocks. If turned, the round clock dial becomes and ellipse that must remain in the same plan as the front of the clock case. Any tips on accurately painting an ellipse on the side of a cube in perspective?

Comments about perspective of the ellipse were puzzling me, until I found this at 12:07 - 12:12 on the following video: ua-cam.com/video/C_GWSpCLLPg/v-deo.html
I was taught to draw an ellipse with perspective, but the difference in curves front and back are mostly imperceptible so I don’t think it matters. I won’t tell my friend that though! She was my watercolour teacher, who made us draw them with perspective!

Heh, let's just keep that between us then :)
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I love it - it was so informative -
🙏👏👏👏👏
Oops. Typo in your title - three L's in ellipse instead of two. Great video on a topic rarely covered so well. :-)
Color study
I really, really hate it when the actual photo is used as a thumbnail instead of the painting. There are some who do it and it borders on clickbait!
Words can not express how much I agree with you to the point that I almost shed a F tear. Also, this guy can't paint very well.
Thank you!
