    My honest opinion is that it isn't necessarily that your opponents are amazing in the opening, but that you don't look for ways to exploit them in the opening. You sort of do what you do and they do what they do, and then when there's less pieces on the board, you turn on your brain and start thinking of ways to exploit their bad moves. I think if you focused more on the opening, you would be as good in the opening as you are in the late game. I'm not trying to knock you at all either, I'm only 1100, so you're obviously better than me, I just think that it's easy to not evaluate as deeply in the opening because there's so many more moves to make than there is in the late game

    • @honkngoose
      @honkngoose 2 роки тому +13

      So true, watching Naroditsky's speedrun videos made me realize how badly you can actually punish people in the opening when they make weird moves and you understand the weaknesses they create. Now applying that in my own games is another story, but nevertheless...

      @@honkngoose Naroditsky is such a sick chess teacher, incredible content

    • @skislope4218
      @skislope4218 2 роки тому +3

      The problem is that the opponent's opening preparation is an unknown variable, so there is no obvious path to exploiting them unless your own opening knowledge tells you they made a mistake - and that means hours of studying.

    • @TheS1lentX
      @TheS1lentX 2 роки тому +2

      I'm the same as Northenlion when it comes to the opening, just play enough natural moves to weather out the storm that is opening theory and hope that you're in a not too bad position then full focus on mid and end game.
      In all honesty, opening theory would definitely up my game but I'm happy where I am

    It's so painful that my opponents play at 85-90% accuracy every game, and than my egg will hang his queen clean and the opponents will just miss M2 and instead hang their queen right back. Where's my queen hangers smh. Granted I'm a bit higher rated but not that much it should make a difference.
    31:51 This here is actually a common motif in openings like the Caro and the Slav. You are opening the dark square bishop, then playing Nd7 to enforce the c5 push. The Slav actually plays similarly to the Caro except white's e-pawn is less advanced leading to more solid and manoeuvring positions, so since you play the Caro it's definitely a good one to consider!

    As a noted Queen's Gambit enthusiast, the Slav Defense (2...c6) is kind of an anti-pog, not because it's good, but because it's turbo boring. Every time I see it played against me, I immediately just do the exchange and say "congratulations, you've chosen to draw on move 2." Honestly if you don't take the pawn you're kind of a coward.
    edit: okay the Semi-Slav Defense (2...e6 followed soon by c6) is actually respectable and doesn't have an easy counter. Thumbs_Up.jpg

    NL it's not that everyone is 1900 in the opening and trash afterwards, it's that you are a 1000 in the opening and actually very good at middlegame complications. People don't play insane opening theory against you. I don't know why you keep thinking that. There are some basic gambits sure but if your opponent is thinking on move 3 they are not in theory.
