I bought this for my friend for his birthday as we just moved into a new house and he finally has room for a workshop. The bench was very easy to set up ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh They center support is a little difficult to snap in and out of place at first but at least then we know the bench is secure. It was a pleasant surprise when we saw it came with clamps. I apparently missed that in the description. My friend loves the versatility of the bench. Great starter bench for his workshop and easily transportable all over our property. I wish the bench was a little taller but the other features of the bench more than make up for that.
I really enjoyed the video. It was well put together and though out. Liked the speeding up of the video, the human brain is capable of absorbing information faster than most people can talk or work with their hands.
David Fisher Thank you David, i think people now get bored quickly if the video is in normal speed, so most videos we watch now are all sped up :)
Very nice job! I knew I wasn't the only guy who thought of using scaffolding leg-screws for a bench vise, but mine is nowhere near as well made as yours. You may have inspired me to do it again! (now I just need to finish six other projects, clean and reorganize everything...)
Lol thanks man. This project sat for a year before I got to actually making it.
That really turned out well Dema. I'm sure there will be a lot of folks building one also.
Thanks Guy, glad you like it :)
Dema, You make some really helpful Videos with no nonsense, I never thought about using a scaffold leveling screw for that purpose. Glad I came across your videos. I am fairly old hand in the shop, but you taught me something. Thanx. Saved me the cost of an Acme threaded 1" rod.
Thank you, glad you found it usefull :)
Good looking vise. I am just now finishing up one very similar to yours. I remember the one on the end of my Dad's work bench that I used maybe 50 or 60 years ago. I tried to build mine from my memories, came pretty close I guess. I bought the screw and a chunk of hard maple, but the rest was from scrap wood. I didn't plan on the wheel at the base of the leg, but if it turns out I need one now I have your model to work from. Wish I had seen your video before I started, great job, thanks for sharing.JJ
I enjoyed your take on john heisz's video. I am inspired. Great editing as well. Your videos are easy to watch and easy to understand. Thanks
Thank you very much, I appreciate that very much :)
quality piece of work, looks the business. I was looking to purchase the hardware to make a leg vice but this has saved me a a shit load of money, cheers...
Awesome :)
I been wanting to build one for my workbench. not so much for woodworking but for e-waste. thanks for posting the video.
you're still rockin' those old Craftsman 19.2V drills... old school.
+Cariboo Custom Woodworks lol yep, but they are starting to die on me so it maybe time to uograde
My dad has those but he bought a new19.2 lithium ion battery from craftsman and he says they operate better than new. You have to buy the new charger as well, but it's cheaper than getting all new stuff unless that's what you want.
I used to have the Craftsman but upgraded to the Makita 18V LXT lithium ion but most are just as good as any other unless you want to break the band on Festool or something.
Cool video, btw.
Some nice design touches and ideas. This comes from a 40 year time served toolmaker and design engineer.
Very nice addition to the ol' workbench.
:)
Nice job Dema, loved the way it turned out.
Warren Downes - One Wood Thanks Warren, glad you like it :)
I am new here, I am making a quick release vise inspired by Pask Makes, “Neal” has some innovative ideas. I will be using your concept of the jaws and how they work. I love to see more details on the lower portion of the vice.
Thanks for sharing!
The scaffolding screw was a clever idea. Nice one!
The entire explanation and process of the project is quite didactic and useful for the work table. as well as the procedure to do it. Just an observation. and it is the fact of not having the culture of safety at work, that you show us. Since those nefarious sandals that have unfortunately become very popular, they detract from the seriousness and manliness of the work
Bravo Dema
A really simple way to build a great strong vise.
Thanks for the video.
Hello there my friend ! What an outstanding job on a very useful shop tool.
Ingenious! This is an outstanding project. Thanks Dema (and John Heisz!) for the ideas.
Thank you for watching Felix :)
That came out very nice. I can see from your previous video what was shot at Matt's shop. Great job.
Craig Pereira haha, thanks for watching :)
that calipers trick is nice!
Great idea. I am starting my bench when the wood dries a little more. the leg vice hardware is a great idea. thanks
Really nice job. I used a bar stool with a screw to adjust the height but I do like the jack leg leveling screw better. Thanks
Thank you, never heard of scaffolding leg screws, but I'm now on the way to making my leg vice thanks to you. Cheers!
nice leg vise, I'm just finishing one for my workbench with same idea but not with so many machines intervention little more manual..congrats Alfredo
Excellent video Dema, one of the best and most useful shop projects I've come across. The time invested for both the vise and the video was well worth it. Keep the projects coming.
+Farmercl's Woodshop Thank you :)
What a great project! I think it’s time to add one of those to my bench. Thanks for sharing!
Wow man! Home run on the leg vise! Great video too but that vise came out beautiful.
Thank you randy, glad you like it
*رائع يا عزيزتي تحياتي من مصر*
Will definitely be building one for my bench when it is finished!
Henrys Workshop Awesome :)
Great execution on a very affordable solution.
Great job Dema. You will now be able to cut dovetails like your mate Matt. Regards.
Thanks Ron :)
I have been looking for a good video for a leg vise, thanks. In the middle of building two benches and this vise on one of them will be a big help. Don't know about maple though, probably go a little cheaper like maybe gold or titanium.
Lol thanks man, glad you found it usefull , but instead of using something cheaper like gold, send it to me and I'll send you maple for the vise
Really clever use of a simple device. You may want to check out a video by noho91 where he uses the scaffolding screw as a tap and die to make a wooden vise screw. Clearly cheaper than buying an ACME threaded large diameter Rod with a corresponding nut.
Great build video Dema.
thankyou i am building a workbench similar to the one jay bates built . like your videos keep them coming.
Thank you
Excellent work on the project, build, video... all of it!
pretty awsome and pretty cheap!..oh wait u sd that already..lol ..ummmm,,,, glad u had time to make this vise...ive been anticipating it for a while.i remember a couple months back when u sd u were thinking about making one. i like how u turned the handle for it .. good stuff man have a good one dema!
Joe basementwoodworking Thanks Joe, i really needed this vise for an upcoming project so i pulled the trigger
***** BANG BANG!! haha u got a bullseye on this one man!!
Very clever. Came out beautiful.
I really like the look of the Maple - You should get a lot of use out of it
+The ShavingWood Workshop Is it Maple?
+Tony Arnold yes it is
Thanks, and nice work. I had thought maple had a lighter colour throughout
but I bow to your greater knowledge.
That was awesome.. I am just beginning in the wood work stuff, will be looking for more of your video's.. Thank you for sharing..
Absolutely brilliant video Dema. Thanks for the great instructions given.
Good Work...You Work ALone.. and Kick Ass at it.. Awesome!!
+SuperRudeDog LOL thanks
Great vise!! Enjoyed watching the video too!
I see we are watching each other's videos lol
:) I am not doing as a favor...
Wow man!! Beautiful work on the Leg Vise!!
McGinn's WoodShop Thank you Jason
That's Awesome Dema! This might just be the impetus i need to build my own Roubo!
that's an excellent design
Looks very strong.
Great job. Very clearly explained. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Just subscribed and I'm looking forward to seeing many more of your videos. Thanks for sharing so much.
Thank you for watching and subscribing Greg :)
Bravo, well done. I think I may have to build one for my workbench.,
Do it :)
Awesome video Dema, I'm working on my drawings tonight for my Split Top Roubo i'm going to be building this season. Love your new intro by the way!
Thanks lance, u building a leg vise into that bench ;)?
***** I am, I'm going to go with Benchcrafted hardware. I have to modify the dimensions because I'm running out of space in my garage.
Sweet, doing a video I hope
I doubt I'll do a build video, but I'll probably do random updates of the build though. I have so much respect for guys like you and Matt, so much time goes into making those videos. I enjoy building things just a little more than I do making the videos to share, and I don't have much time these days, esp. with a baby on the way.
Lance's Woodshop & Adventures cool, i like watching other peoples shops and shop furniture. seems like everyone is having babies these days lol
Really cool! That will definitely come in handy
Thank you :)
Love the way this came out!
Looks nice. One day I'll build a nice roubo
Nice work Dema, plenty of detail in that vid, i'll use for instruction when I make my vice, Cheers.
Awesome Paul, thanks for watching :)
Great idea. Most inexpensive solution I have seen.
Thank you
I can her the sobs of broke woodworkers, crying into their Benchcrafted invoices. Great job Dema!
Hahahaha this made my day, thanks for that
+Dema's WoodShop it made my day that I made your day lol
Very cool! Especially like the split ring retainer for the screw :)
John Heisz Thank you John, glad you liked it :)
you are incredibly talented! !
Thanks for showing and sharing that
great video, beautiful vise
Great video! My dad made one like this in the '50s and this will me to replicate it for my shop.
Great build mate I have to make one thanks
peter gorwood glad you liked it :)
Would have liked more of a finished demo, looks good though
Nice! Very well done! Congratulations.
Really enjoyed watching your video "DIY Roubo Leg Vise build". It's obvious you planned this project well. Your design & construction methodology is well thought out. You certainly know how to uuse shop tools. You've now energized me to consider & most likely build my own leg vise. Now I need to find sources for the parts needed. Well done indeed!
Awesome, I have some of the components available if your interested.
Could I get more detail on the bottom pinned stand off adjustment arm and how it is actually pinned ? Great video helped with restoring my old 1930's bench .
I think this vise is great. Very affordable and simple enough for anyone handy. You did a nice job of it and the video was easy to follow. Can you tell me where you get those decals made?
Thank you David. What decals are you taking about? My logo? I print them on my laser printer and use acetone to transfer the image. I have a video on that process :)
This was a great video, I got lots of good ideas that I will put to use when making my own vise! Thanks!
Marfelt Thank you :)
Once I get around to building my bench this fall, I really think I am going to make my leg vice this way. Thanks for a great tutorial!
woodengamer Thanks for watching :)
Thank you very much for sharing this project with us. You are very skilled and your video is well done. Can you share with us a source for the large flat washer? I know that it can be constructed of a broad range of materials but I personally prefer using a large flat washer if I can find it. Thanks
Thank you Ronnie, I get the washers at grainger.com the item# is 22UE13 but they come in packages of 5
Very profession build, love it!
Thanks!!! Subscribed!!! And the logo transfer method is cool, too.
Awesome legviise build Dema!
one of my regrets when i got seperated was losing a table with knee vises that came from a sulky/wagon manufacturer in the 1800's
Great design and great work. Please explain what you used for the metal collar. Cheers and keep up the great work!
Thank you martin, the collar is a large washer
Great vise Dema!
Thank you Ronny
great leg vise should get some large boards in there
Thank you, I think I can get up to 16" wide stock :)
Sweet work! I enjoyed the video and was inspired! Time to make me one of those!
Looks great, have to try making one
What a great vice. I'm getting started on one made of quarter sawn oak and walnut, I'm gluing them up right now. Can you post some of the dimensions of the walnut that you turned then glued to the screw and the washer? Thanks, Greg
Thank you, sent me an email and I will email the to you, you can find my email in the video description
Nice setup Dema!
I don't know if you noticed but your jointer shrunk part of the way through
Hahaha that's funny
Matthew Cremona That's a pretty big vise. I kinda think it's overkill for pen blanks. ;) just kidding, Dema... :)
Matthew Cremona Maybe he has two? I've got two drills, three routers... why can't he have two jointers? :-) :-)
wordsnwood lol,
+wordsnwood He does have two... If you consider what is Matts, is also Demas, he ends up having multiples of EVERYTHING. lol
great work mate
Awesome Job! love the cost saving of this vice!!
Lol thanks dave
nice job buddy..im gonna make one this week for sure.
Very useful vis a vis how work unsafely. 🤯🤯
That looks awesome! Thanks Dema!
Very nice, Dema!
Steve Collins Thank you :)
Great Job , Subscribed, Jay sent me this way glad I looked , Adding this to the project list ! Well after the new bench lol
Great vice. Jay Bates linked it.
Hi Dema - very nice job, I'm definitely building one. I think I missed the purpose of the all the holes in the bottom guide, can you explain?
You put a pin in the hole the corresponds to the thickness of the wood, otherwise the bottom would just tweak in and the wood will not clamp evenly
Wow Dema! Good job.
wow that beats me in store bough cast iron wood vice
Brilliant idea! I still need to make me a workbench and want to use a lot of the roubo features. However, buying a vice was never an option because they’re so expensive. I love the idea of using scaffolding materials. Nicely done!
Paul Sellers does a 10 part work bench making video using store bought fir 2x4s
Your relying on only a two part epoxy to hold the scaffolding screw to the wood bonnet nut you turned. Once glued you should drill a hole through BOTH and pin with a spring pin. This will help to keep them from separating. There is a lot of torq on that bonnet nut even with little clamping force.
+Al Yup, i did add that after the video was recorded :) thank you
very nice to me! Great build. really good documentation on how you did it. I subscribed!
+Rag Tie thank you for watching and subscribing :)
+Dema's WoodShop you're welcome, I will pass you alone to all of my friends here in Southern California good luck
Your such a good UA-camr
Hehe thank you
Very nice. Let me see if I can build one similar....
great idea! going to have to make one myself!
That craftsman's drill is the most frustrating tool i have ever owned! chuck is just useless!
Dude, you area a super genius! Excellent build. I love to see how guys like your self use ordinary materials to accomplish a task. Good job! One question: what is the formula for the varnish or finish that you applied after all the wood work was completed? Thanks.
Thank you David, I just used Danish oil that came in a can :)
