The Wasting Of An NFL Legend: How The Tennesse Titans Failed Derrick Henry
Вставка
- Опубліковано 15 кві 2024
- Derrick Henry is now a Baltimore Raven, teaming up with the MVP Lamar Jackson, and officially left the Tennesse Titans failing to make a single Super Bowl appearance, but why is that? Henry has been far and away the best running back in the NFL over the past half a decade but time and time again, the Titans organization failed to surround Derrick Henry with the talent he needed to make a Super Bowl run. So join me as we dive into how injuries, horrible draft decisions, and more ruined Derrick Henry's prime, and how the Tennesse Titans wasted an NFL legend. Anyway, if you enjoyed this video at all then like and comment if you want, and you can even subscribe if you think I've earned it.
It was a cold day, too cold he thought to himself. Urinatingtree watched as KTO created an abundance of football analysis on the potential of Tom Grossi in the upcoming Super Bowl. But with that, we still wait to see where Ryan Tannehill will go and if other football stories can be revealed through his famous NFL podcast.

Seeing the Minnesota Vikings trade stefon diggs and instantly find Justin Jefferson in the middle of the first round has ruined a few GM's brains
Minnesota is cursed to get great or generational receivers without anyone to throw the ball to them
@amrelarcher8990 after this draft it will be different I swear 😭😭 God damn it we will get it right at qb for once in the draft.
Over the past 10yrs yrs it’s honestly become less impressive. Like the RB position the WR position has transitioned into an era where the position is flooded w/ talent while the draft still has the same amount of picks per round. That results in traditionally 1st rd grade or really productive WRs being found all throughout the draft.
Guys like Dk, Aj Brown, Deebo, Mclauren, and T Higgins, can all be found outside the first rd. Chances teams can stumble into WR1s is better than it’s ever been. Gettin that QB is still a crap shoot tho. So teams that willingly let some walk w/o a stud behind em always baffle me. Teams don’t wanna pay QBs so bad that they’ll get like Jerry Jones and go trade for a Trey Lance solely bc Adams contract was ending and he wanted some fugazi leverage to lower Daks price lol
@@tjanderson5892there’s so much talent in WR which makes it even funnier that the titans haven’t found even an average receiver in half a decade ☠️
Brad Holmes was like "Like damn, Stop taking my picks!"
Titans fan here, I was at my darkest point when he went to the Ravens. Slowly, however, I have gotten over it, learning to love the team I have been left with and look to the future. The past 51 minutes and 47 seconds have reignited my depression and has inspired me to jump off a bridge, thanks tubfrog
Always happy to help 🫡
Don’t worry bubba, he’s going to the ravens to screw up their chances of winning a Super Bowl, he knows what he’s doing 🫡
Facts King Henry gonna ruin Lamar chance of getting that ring then come home when the new stadium is built. Him and Will Levis gonna go on a mayo revenge tour💪
You can always come over to the dark side and become a Ravens fan. King Henry would thank you.
@@Daniel-ef6gghell yeah brother! Ravens! Is it weird that i became a ravens fan not because I'm from the area but for my hatred of the Steelers? We had so many tough games that were just brutal. Ravens/Steelers rivalry is no joke.
In the last 25 years, the Titans have had three generational talents grace their backfield, and not a single one of them ever won a Super Bowl. Such is the life of a Titan.
Such is the life of an NFL player. Barry Sanders never won a Superbowl. Neither did Randy Moss, Eric Dickerson, Dan Marino, Tony Gonzalez, or Earl Campbell. The Vikings, Lions, and Falcons have never won, despite having some of the best talent over the years.
Casual
that dates all the way back to when they were the oilers with Earl Cambell.......... that franchise is just braindead
This is their season. Levis is HIM!

“Franchise quarterback in Marcus mariota”
That’s funny
I still think he could've been that for them, if the organization was competent enough to play to his strengths and build around him.
They didn't even try lol.

I had no idea he was struggling so much for playing time when he first got draft, even as a Heisman winner. I always assumed he just came out the gate as a beast. Never would've guessed he was on the trade block at one point!
You did a great job painting this as an "underdog" story, with him finally getting his chance and fully running with it (no pun intended). Another great vid, TubFrog!
Remember how Josh McDaniels pushed Derek Carr out of LV for no other reason than he had a tiny, easily-offended ego? Well there are more coaches like him than there are not. King Henry's coach hated him because, likely, he did not want the team's success look like it was due to Henry & not His Coaching. Again, this happens *a **_LOT!_*
Just look at Justin Fields. He _is_ Caleb Williams. They're in the same tier in every aspect of their game. But Poles & Eberflus wanted an excuse to draft Caleb/move away from Fields.
So they cancelled *all the plays* that made them the #1 offense in the league _(BEFORE_ they acquired D.J. Moore), asked him not to throw to certain receivers on certain plays making him look totally inept, & taught the o-line to simply ignore pass rushers & allow them straight through to Fields untouched. There's probably never been a QB so sabotaged by his own coaches.
I *wish* I could be 100% certain that were true.
Kind of crazy, I remember him being a like 82 on madden at one point. He was a player I’d salivate over in draft modes just because the measurables vs the OVR made no damn sense 😂
I wouldn't say his time there was a waste. I mean, he crossed the 2000 yard threshold, which puts him permanently in elite RB status. It's tough to make a super bowl, let alone win it. They had a good run for a bit. However, the disastrous drafts of recent years means that team may suck for awhile.
Yeah but the elite running backs are hard to build around it seems
they never had a QB
Chiefs fan here, I've been to 5 of their games and the last football game I went to was when Mahomes went 36-50 for 446 yards 3 tds at Tennessee and they lost in one of the most bizarre ways by getting a field goal blocked last second. Lemme tell you seeing Henry in his prime was insane. It blew my mind how big and tall he was in person. In 08 I also saw Phllip Rivers throw 2 td's in the last 73 seconds to beat KC when they were down 21-3. Let's just say I'm not going to go to any KC playoff games any time soon.
As a Denver fan I’ll gladly pay for your ticket this year
as and eagles fan, why weren't you at super bowl 57
Derrick Henry is going to the Hall of Fame IMO. He got to an AFC CG with Ryan Tannehill. You could say they wasted his career, but he's had bites at the apple and been wildly successful on a personal level.
He's just about 500yds short of 10k, which is insane in today's league. Plus he's done that in only six years as a full-time starter
Yeah I definitely don't think it was a wasted career.
First ballot at this rate.
that franchise wasted a lot of rb careers dating back to the 70's
The biggest problem with Derrick Henry is, and the ravens are going to find this out, Henry does not do well if he doesn’t get 25-30 touches a game. The entire offense has to revolve around him, which in today’s NFL does not work. Henry would be great in the 80s or 90s, but the current NFL is a passing league now and teams who are run first don’t find much success. Henry is both a gift and a curse, a double edged sword who can keep your team competitive but also prevent your team from getting over the top.
With Ryan at QB, it just felt like a "Groundhog Day" situation when it came to losing. Like the recent Cowboys or Ravens, but with less weapons and a stagnant roster
Now he gets go to Baltimore and playoff Lamar
Life as a titan fan, can be summed up in one word...Pain
Reliving the 2019 season is bittersweet, it was the only time I ever believed that we could've actually did something...but the legend of Patrick Mahomes came to fruition and crushed the hopes of Titans fans far and wide...because the year afterwards we overpayed Ryan Trashehill, then later lost AJ Brown and wasted all of our talent all because we just don't know how to draft. I hope that King Henry can get Lamar and the Ravens over the hump because he deserves to win a championship. Thanks TubFrog for bringing the pain of a Titans fan to light!
BUT TONY POLLARD??? WE REPLACE HENRY WITH POLLARD?
Tony pollard is the backup bro, and he’s gonna be a damn good one. Not even really a backup because he’s gonna be splitting snaps with Spears, and that can be a really good duo.
It’s all relying on if we can draft a good tackle and if Levis can be the guy
@@ianpriest4431 we paid a lot of money for a “backup” brotha and we can only hope that the duo is gonna work…
We should definitely draft Joe Alt, he is a freak of nature and he’ll even be protecting the blind spot of Levis

Have you completely forgotten about Tyjae Spears?

as a ravens fan who nearly cried after getting demolished by Henry in the 2019 playoffs i can’t wait to see how he plays for us in 2024. With the chiefs ruining Henry’s and the titans run in 2019 and ours this past year i hope we at least make it to the AFC championship and beat the chiefs(if they’re still in contention).
Lmao you mean if the ravens are still in contention right? The chiefs FLOOR is the afc tittle game. The ravens get there every 10 years 😂

Titans fan here, a great video as always Tubfrog. This video reminded me of all the times I have cried the last couple years, slimmers of hope shattered in milliseconds. I never knew The King was on the trade block, however I did know how mid Tanny was and how hard he choked. Yes in 2021 reg szn he was under appreciated but he completely bottled it. I cant forget him throwing into quadruple coverage to Nick Westbrook-Ihkine of all people
Eagles fan. It still feels a little weird that we dicked over a franchise not named the Giants, but hot damn are we thankful the Titans traded us AJ Brown. We've been a wasteland of mid WRs (except TO) for so long, it's been a mind-blowing experience to have him and Devonta on the same team.
So thank you and I genuinely hope that your fortunes turn around... And for the love of all things holy, don't pick up if Howie Roseman calls.

"His head-ass" got me crying bruh 🤣🤣
I’m not a fan of Mariota but I gotta respect anyone who gave their body to the game like he did that 2018 season
As a Titans fan. If we didnt resign Ryan Panichill after the AFC Championship run, we would have won a ring. He is the only QB in NFL history to throw game losing interceptions in the final minute at home in a playoff game in back to back years. Then we let AJ Brown walk?! That was the final straw for me. That 2021 Titans defense was ferocious! 9 sacks on Joe Borrow and still lost 😤
If we didn’t resign Tannehill we wouldn’t have a quarterback and they tend to be pretty important to winning SBs
No, you absolutely dont win a ring regardless. Did mahomes just magically retire in your scenario? 😂
So who you getting at QB then? He was coming off his best season ever as a starter in 2020 (33 TDs 7 picks). Henry only played 8 games that season so the fact you guys went 12-5 with him at QB and without Henry was still impressive......plus Tannenhill had 7 rushing TDs to go along with his 21 TD passes in 2021.
It's easy to shit on him for the Bengals game now in hindsight but your logic on the matter is stupid considering the info we had at the time.
@@SycoticForeverNeverAF tom brady was a free agent that year?! Im sure he would have joined the Titans if they didnt sign Panichill
@@crater044 ok what about the Ravens loss at home in the playoffs? An no one remembers Brady was a FA that offseason he went to Tampa and did what?! Won a ring 😂
Just when I was getting sad I had already gone through all your videos… here we go… tubfrog the goat
😂 that picture at the back. I have so many questions
That's crazy af looking at the size difference between Lewis and Henry in that picture. Henry is a freaking monster
Never been so conflicted about a video about my favorite team
Same I was hesitant to watch this 😭
As a titans fan it’s not everyday someone gives us attention like this so even if it is a pseudo criticism video I’ll still thank you for making it. I wasn’t too sad when Henry left since he served us well and we had no right to force him to stay in a changing franchise. But it still stung and It hurts to watch him go after all he’s given us. I’d say we failed him primarily through coaching and managerial issues. Vrabel was a defensive mastermind but his offensive coordinators continually failed to secure a consistently good passing attack and it’s what sunk us in all of our playoff runs. It didn’t help that Vrabel was often friends with his o coordinators so fan calls to remove them rarely got through. J Rob was also god awful in his last few years and made horrible decisions like trading AJ for Pennies on the dollar during the draft. In two years our new GM, Ran Carthon, has done more for our team than J Rob did in his entire tenure and I’m happy that he won the ensuing power struggle against Vrabel, so that we can finally become a modern franchise. As a result we have a really promising roster and future (even if the media always ignores us) but the memory of watching the bengals take us down in 2022 during derrick’s prime is always gonna hurt. The franchise failed to build around him and I hope he can come back at some point to retire as a titan and the king he was always meant to be.
Babe, wake up, there’s a new hour long TugFrog video.
Derrick Henry is a very good running back, and probably the best to enter the nfl since Adrian Peterson. He’s had a hell of a start to his career, but I don’t think his career will have the lasting impression left that AP did. 6all pros,6 pro bowls, AP mvp and the last non-qb to win in now 12 years, and 1x AP offensive player of the year.
Demarco Murray was a very good back for the Titans. It took "The King" awhile to get up to speed on things
The funny thing about the Titans is even going back to their time as the Oilers. They have had four great running backs over the years.
Earl Campbell, Eddie George, Chris Johnson & of course Derrick Henry yet they accomplished nothing with any of them. Yes Ik they made a Super Bowl when they had Eddie George but we all know what happened there

As i titans fan, i hate the fact that we wasted his career, I pray he wins one with the ravens, that’s all he needs to be a HoFer, and also, no one knows why the King wore 22, it was because of his friend getting into a car crash and passing away

Derrick Henry is from the Jacksonville FL area... Was actually honored at a jags game for signing with Alabama as a teen. Him and jax always have some type of story.
After the 25/10 podcast, I’d love to see a tub frog video covering the chip kelly era. What a dark time
As a titan fan, it pains me that we couldn’t get him a ring. We got close in 2019 and 2021 but the pieces didn’t fall in place. He was always a class act here in the community. No drama. He always just went about his business. It hurts me to see him sign with a hated rival, but if he gets that ring, I would not mind it.
As a Titans fan, I loved picking Henry. But it was frustrating seeing him behind Murray and Lewis. I was yelling at the TV
As a titans fan hearing you say this franchise ruined Mariota makes me happy in a way somebody else realizes what they did to that man
*A lot of it had to do with Vrabel
25:06 impressive that Henry is not dwarfing AP in that pic. I was the biggest Peterson fan this side of the border and I don’t remember him being that tall.
I asked my coworkers if they remember when Lewis started over Henry and they called me a liar....but for real Titans did this man so dirty

as a titans fan i love henry but none of us were wanting to bench murray for henry back then. henry was reported as being on the brink of getting cut bc he was underperforming and also just the general vibe among the fanbase was that he was a bust before he had his breakout. maybe in hindsight that was pretty dumb but no titans fans werent calling for murray to get benched or anything

This man ran for 452 yards in 2 games against my team in 2020. I was terrified of him I can’t fathom what my team felt playing him

I’m just happy that you didn’t only criticize Jon Robinson in this vid, because even though Vrabel is a good head coach, he could not hire a good coordinator! After Lafleur and Peas everybody else was garbage! (except Arthur who was at least ok)
It was an honor to be at Henry's last game as a Titan and see him beat the Jags one more time... long live the king...
Bro really had to remind Falcons fans of their pain during a video about the TITANS😭😭😭😭
No matter what he does with the Ravens, Derrick Henry is going to the Hall of Fame mainly from what he did with the Titans. I'm not a Titans fan but I'd hardly consider that a failure. Especially in a league that doesn't build around running backs anymore, that's pretty great for a second round pick. This narrative of 'teams failing players' doesn't apply to everyone, especially for a position like running back which they chose to feature for 5+ years unlike most teams.
It really sucks that people fail repeatedly at building around their star players. I know an RB isn't a traditional way to build the team up, but if all the fans (especially non Titans fans) are screaming for it, maybe someone in the front office should be trying harder. Dude is a beast, and I hope he gets success in Baltimore. My team is in NFC, so it really won't bother me. Love watching this dude truck DBs!
Man that 2022 season that he had almost 1000 yds half way through and got injured was tough. If he'd been able to keep that up I'd bet he'd have broken the single season rushing record. But, didn't happen and we'll never know......damnit.
^^Totally Legit^^ Jay Cutler quote. Inspirational.
As a Titans fan, it hurts that he's gone, but it was time. Hoping Spears and Levis can make something happen and that Ran Carthon doesn't have a Jon Robinson regression
Henry was carrying me in fantasy in 2021 until his injury
You wonder how one team had so much talent and squandered it, then I look at my own team and cries in Seahawks 😭
the reason why derrick henry wasn't getting many snaps when he was younger was because the titans wanted to protect him long term because they used him so much at alabama
