  • Lots about the Rdunae R2X. The USS Ranger. Swiss vs seiko chronograph operation. Battery change punch marks. The 6138 21j vs 23 = where are the additional jewels? 6139 mainsprings. Frosting dial markings? Beat error redux. Tracking down "survivor". And I get a sighting I haven't seen lo these many years.
PSA: This video contains sub-optimal levels of editing, enough to get it done. We have zero script beyond the questions people have sent in. Same for the sound - I forget my microphone pretty regularly, so if you can hear anything count that as a win. Even if that "anything" is tuneless humming. I did pump up the volume though. YMMV if you choose to spend part of your life on this. No Refunds. Enjoy!

Yeah. My Pulsar did the two step too when the battery had to be changed, It got me worried, didn't know it was supposed to do that. Great to know! Thanks!

Hey Spencer and Sabrina - enjoyable video as always. I love military style watches and I wanted to get a lower cost 'beater' watch so I don't get so worried about wearing my more expensive mechanical watch in situations where I should not... I looked at the Rdunae as well as others, but settled on the Militado ML05 which is supposed to arrive in the next few days. It checked most of the boxes for me even the 'sapphire' crystal, but I'm excited to see how the Seiko VH31 movement works.I did end up ordering a different watch band as I just could not stand the one that comes with the watch.

I have an ML05 inbound as well. Too cheap on the alix back to school sale to pass up. Still on the fence about the color of the dial markers. Will have to see in real life.

You need a second camera just filming the window so we can see what is happening outside.

Have you seen the 5126 8090 reissue? It’s the SRPL05 and L03. Really cool watches that look very accurate to the original. Although they didn’t replicate the original bracelet.
Someone at Seiko seems to be getting them on the right track with reissues.

Thanks again for the education and entertainment. The current ISO 6425:2018 standard for divers' watches requires lume that can last for at least 180 minutes (after being exposed to light according to some other ISO standard) at every 5 minute marker. The requirement that it be at every marker was introduced for the 2018 version of the standard. Hence the need to change the designs to include a lumed marker next to the date window. So Seiko could re-make their old drivers' but they couldn't call them divers' by today's ISO standards. That's clearly a bit of a problem for them. Some current models including the Sumo and SPB143 have two dial versions for pre and post ISO change. The neatly framed date windows of the past are a rare sight on current Seiko divers'.
The, let's be polite and call them homages, that Chinese companies churn out can be closer to the original vintage Seiko models because they don't care that it isn't ISO compliant. Seiko might be able to work around it with a lumed date wheel or a lumed date frame. The standard is also due for a review but I don't image the requirement will be removed from it.

Must be vintage chronograph weekend also wearing my Tissot PR516. Re the Seiko 754x battery punch dot on the year marker they put this dot on when manufactured to indicate to change the battery after 3 years example if you have a 1980 watch it is dot punched at 1983. All my 754x watches have this first dot. If you get a JDM piece ex Japan and it’s had a recent battery change via Seiko they will punch the date change numbers on the caseback also, when I first saw this I thought it may have been marked due to being a military marker but not so just a battery change date example B9808, refers battery changed August 1998.

I wonder if it's a function of how long they can be absolutely sure the battery won't start leaking (change at the punch mark, guaranteed safe), verses a battery still holding power ok for a fair bit longer but with a slight chance it may start leaking (i'm sure most of us have seen batteries still in pack looking a bit sweaty, a lot less common with quality brands, but you still occasionally see it)

Sorry, both, my bad, I had a Barton rubber band on my 7548 700f which broke, not a metal band, had a look at the uncle reproduction Z199 and they have a standard (hollow end links and vintage pressure clasp) and super (solid end links and milled clasp), which would go best with my 7548 from 1978? All the best, Neel

If any of the Chinese "6105" ever get the dial markers right and stop aping modern Seiko with a red painted stop light and do a baby aspirin orange LUMED stop light...it's game over on any notion that $1000+ Seiko 6105 reissues are worth the money is over.

Q4MC: Hi Spencer can you tell us what the code numbers for the 7548 series mean e.g. I have a 700B which is a Pepsi, but don't know if it's a western market as there is a 7000 which I think is a JDM. There is also the 700F. Clear it up Spencer!

Titanium? Taken from a Jet fighter? (Mental picture of man with a metal saw sneaking towards a jet fighter to get metal for a watch).
