@@thenerdycousins9099 Yeah, regular monopoly money would be impossible to use, except for auctions. Whoever wins the auction would have a massive advantage since anyone who lands on that property would lose massive money.
A variant of this game that I created: If you have a skyscraper and the Monopoly Tower, apply doubling both times for the color set with the skyscraper. For each stadium you own, double the money from GO every time you land on it or pass it. This happens after the bonus building rule, as described one line below. For each bonus building you own, add $1,000,000 to the GO money.
My variation: If you have both the Monopoly Tower and the Skyscraper, then you can charge 4X Rent on properties on ALL your completed sets and double rent on all other properties you own. Stadiums and Railroads can count as Bonus Buildings and will not be counted towards the 8-Block Building limit. Stadiums will add 2M to your GO Bonus instead of 1M and all other Bonus Buildings add 500K to the Go Bonus. New Hazard Effects: Rubbish will block residential buildings, like normal play. Anyone who lands on a Property with Prison will be sent to jail. The owner won’t receive rent for that! Power station and Sewage Plant will block all Industrial Buildings from contributing to rent. Residential buildings will still count to the rent valuation of the property if a Power Station or a Sewage Plant is built on it.
I played this version a ton like 10 years ago, I also remember there being a bunch of questions we had beyond the rulebook, so we had to make up our own. Unfortunately I can't remember them all, but we had at least 10, with quite a few related to the chance cards probably. But also the railroads, like if you roll doubles and land on a railroad, can you take the railroad and keep rolling from there? And then can you build on each roll, even if you roll doubles? This was a long time ago so maybe updated the instructions since then, but this always to be the case with different monopoly versions. It's like they do no testing at all before they write the instructions, give it to me and my cousins for 2 days and we'll have a list of questions that aren't explicit or are vague in the instructions.
I haven't played this once and I can already think of a question: If you land on a railroad, and there aren't any other railroads in play, what do you do? Do you treat it as a normal space? If not, what's different? I'd vote you get the chance to buy a railroad on one of your properties and move there, but if you don't have properties or decide not to, you get to roll again, but that's house rules
I liked this game but I recommend house rules where it costs more to remove hazards. The hazard mechanic in the game tends to be a mute point at the price it takes to remove them.
Not gonna lie, I didn't know this version existed before today. When I was younger I owned U-Build Monopoly (basically this but you can make the board funny shapes and different building mechanics), and always wondered why the property names, money values, and rules were so different from regular Monopoly. Makes me wonder why they chose to base U-Build Monopoly on City rather than normal Monopoly, but I'm glad they did because these rules are much better than the regular version.
U-build plays almost like this one, save for some alterations like building your customized board layout, water tower and rubbish are absent in U-build. Maybe someday, cover that City variant, to give us a refresher on the rules.

this seems to be a nice version of monopoly, there aren't just seven rent prices and you can pick what type of building to build, not the final card of the coloured set (second rent level), a house (third-sixth level) or a hotel (seventh level) also the railway stations are actually used for travelling unlike those of the original monopoly i also like that values over 100 monopoly dollars of the original use single digits and not three digits, by using M for 100 monopoly dollars and K for less money (1k = 0.1 monopoly dollars of the og monopoly)
Question: Is the building block limit on the trading unit meant to limit the amount of blocks built per turn per district? Example: if you own 3 properties you may build 3 blocks in each of properties. OR it means a general limit so that in the example mentioned you may only build 3 blocks in total, say, one block in each of the 3 properties? I've been playing this version for a couple of years now and that question always comes up 🤣
Can you sell properties or are they permanent outside of combining or splitting them? I would guess the latter since otherwise you could tear down residences in a hazard district and replace them with industry.
If you are mortgaged and unmortgege you have to pay the total rent that you owe or the total that your mortageged districts that take money for rent or both
i have a question about hazard buildings... If another player builds a hazard in one of my districts, all of the residential buildings in that district become worthless and do not count towards the rent value of that district. Do I receive rent for the real state (the land rent)?
Yes. Hazards basically just cancel the effect of residential buildings, so say if you had 3 residential buildings and nothing else with a hazard, you'd charge the land rent.
Community chest:”can i build with my brother?” Mr.monopoly:”no! You will get hurt! So I will not let you come!” Community chest”that’s not fair! I will look out! You are meanie, mr monopoly!”
Dang, I originally thought that industrial buildings prevented hazard buildings from being played on a plot, but it turns out they just cancel residential bonuses
So if you land on a railroad that’s on an owned property and there’s only one other railroad is on another owned property before the GO space and you barely have any mone you are just doomed
The most unrealistic part of this board game is when the player pays for their stadium with their own money instead of simply lobbying the government to do it on the taxpayer dime.
Something i don't like about monopoly is the banknotes design, which is too simple. I am a fan of banknote arts, and for me banknotes from the 90s was the best design ever. Going into the 2000s and above, banknote designs became too modern and looks boring. I would be good if monopoly could design its banknotes to be more classic and prettier
If there's a *COLLOSSAL EXPLOSION*, then all buildings are worthless and any of the districts were removed from the whole game. This district cannot be bought since it's destroyed.
You can't build hazards in your own areas, he mentioned bonus buildings can only go in empty districts or your districts, and hazards only in empty districts or your opponent's
Why is this like, the definitive version of monopoly? At least from a game design perspective. It expands upon the core mechanics super nicely. All it needs is electronic banking with scannable properties and whatnot.
Electronic banking sucks. There's a monopoly version out there that has it, and it slows down everything (paying small rents to each other takes forever, having to inset two cards into the machine every time.)
@@senseiadam-brawlstars9465 Electronic banking makes it so there's little to no error even reasonably possible and in my experience it makes people less intimidated to play the game and doesn't harm the pacing.
