I can’t hate it either. It’s the first series of the anime I watched as it released. Also I love both Cilan and Iris a lot.
Yeah, it had some pretty good moments, sadly they were overshadowed by some of the animes WORST moments. Imo, this series could DEFINITELY use a rewrite
Same I grew up playing the games most of the time. I wasn't able to watch the anime much due to not having cable and lack of scheduling until the end of Diamond and Pearl. Black and White reminded me why I love Pokemon so much as a kid.

Fun fact Cilan's English VA Jason Griffith also voiced Sonic the hedgehog so I find black and white a lot funnier if I just replace Cilan with Sonic in my mind
This was the show I grew up on. I mean, I’d watched the others before, but this was the show that released when I was a little. So because of that, I genuinely never understood why people hated Black and White. And frankly??? Still dont, it’s not that bad. I definitely still hold a lot of love for it. :)
The main problem is they negated a lot of Ash's experience from previous series, either for comic relief or exposition to the viewers, so it was really off-putting to watch right after the Sinnoh League. Team Rocket's personality change was also way too forced. BW would've worked in a vacuum, but not so much as part of a larger anime. The series was pretty much carried by the new characters instead.
@@Gabo2oo Yeah! That’s valid and basically objectively true, and I understand those issues now that I’m older, but I still enjoy it in spite of, and hell, even *for* it’s problems.
I didn’t, (and still don’t), have any attachments to the Diamon and Pearl anime, so the issues with BW one are a lot easier for me to over look. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@Gabo2oo that's a good way to put it. If this started the anime, I think it would've worked out pretty well. Ash being dumb? Aside from the fact that it's kinda consistent to his character, he was just as silly in Gen 1 (&2). Iris shares similarities in character to Misty, and Cilan to Brock (aside from Brock's girl problem ofc). And they both work, all four a fun characters. And the stories were good, the characters, especially the rivals (except Trip), were great, the Team Plasma arc was intense, and seeing Team Rocket be this competent and actually threatening was quite an interesting watch. The main problem was its positioning in the overall story. On its own, its fine, but it was kinda doomed to fail the minute it decided to be a reboot since it made no sense narratively for Ash's mind to basically start at zero when he'd already been to FOUR other regions.

BW is the first pokemon series i watched, and it was my fav until Journeys came. Now its my second fav. And i absolutely love Cilan and Iris, like the dynamics between them and Ash are like siblings. Cilan being the tired older brother, Iris and Ash being a chaotic brother-sister duo
