Great show. Really appreciate the seasoned knowledge spanning a wide range of topics. Combat Base Club membership is excellent in terms of content, production values and boiling down key concepts and is helping me fill in some gaps. And has changed my approach to guard 🤣
Fascinating when you delve into psychology and philosophy in your podcasts. It would be amazing to hear an episode where you explore your personal journey and experiences with both topics.
Thanks for sharing that rant. It's crazy to think how many nooks and crannies have emerging jiu jitsu cultures. Chowder seems like he has a lot of stories. It's wild to think that there are guys like that out there.
i switched to no gi 100% due to laundry... i can wash like a whole weeks worth of rashguards and shorts at the end of the week along with my regular clothing, you cant do that with gi
The reality is the Gi requires more intelligence, as it offers more options in play. Second reality of note is Nogi "specialists " as a whole cannot transfer their success to the Gi. Yet Gi "specialists " have historically shown they can indeed win at the highest levels Nogi, again as a whole in generalization. There are outliers always, nothing is absolute. This debate of if a Gi is important is quite useless. The reality is the only two sports in grappling worthy of note being Wrestling and Judo (world wide participation, funding, and highest competition levels)....have already answered this by simply understanding they are two seperate yet equal sports. The rest of the debate is ego and insecurity.
I believe the sleeves of the gi in judo back in Kano's day was shorter than today's gi. I believe one day there will be someone that will build a new brand of gym like 10th planet for only no gi judo. I guess it would be similar to greco roman wrestling throws.
Sambo has blue and red because that's what FILA used for all wrestling styles (FIAS didn't break off from FILA until the 1980s and was overseen as another wrestling style prior to that). If I remember correctly Anton Geesink proposed red and blue gis for judo which became the white and blue gi that we know now.
I prefer the thicker gi for competition. My biggest gripe is when IBJJF makes you wear two belts. I get why we need the other belt for distinguishing competitors in same color gi, but why can't I take the belt off I wore to the mat and only have one belt like my opponent? Having two belts on one player, and one belt on the other creates a noticeable asymmetry.
My limb and ankle did not snap in a 'predetermined' mat match. A true 'street fight'(PS- I do not proclaim to be a 'bad ass') isn't orchestrated. I was stopping someone from "stealing" my personal property -- After swinging it out for a few blows, I slipped in a gravel divot (it was raining) and I just collapsed. I got up and was still trying to go until someone grabbed me and as I looked down my ankle was sideways and my lower leg was snapped.. Streets are not the gym. Even these "Gracie challenges" are unrealistic. The element of surprise, weather(rainy/ muddy/gravel(my situation)/snow, space[confinement] and their FRIENDS! ALL play into it(as you all know).. Any high level/even low - can prevent me from owning them on the ground and them submitting me. Who wouldn't want that skill? But in reality it's not a -- here are the matts, ready, set - go.. It's a 30 sec SURPRISE - then GO!.. Ask a person to armbar someone in the hood.. Anyway, I'm glad I came across this channel. And I wish I wasn't 54 with screws in my ankle and a rod in my leg! That was 5 years ago. For the record, I am not doubting the effectiveness of BJJ in any way...Cheers!
Ironically folks in Japan would wear GI type clothing as their normal cloths. For them to make a comparison as to why you don’t wear normal cloths or sweat pants & a tee just don’t make sense.
I mean, hard disagree on the practicality Theres no modern clothing that even vaguely resembles a gi jacket outside of a bathrobe with the inverted collar and lapel with a belt on the outside Its not a beef with using a garment, its that the standard issue garment is modeled off a 19th century japanese firemans jacket and thats ridiculous

Guys, that voice message was absolutely wild.
Humor for sure that dude hasn’t been to prison 🤣
Fun times!!
Yea....seemed suspicious. Good times tho!
I love the rant on the GI bags with spaghetti straps .... LMAO. I couldn't agree with Chris more.

Some good points in there✌️🧡

Yes! No gi judo is pretty much greco
Absolutely fascinating podcast. The reason most judo/bjj gi are made in Pakistan. Who knew!

Chris Chowder haha. What a bloke.
Chowder for President!✌️😂
Kano created the gi and it evolved into being a suit with a thicker construction for hard training. A blend of eastern and western wear.

Wow! Quite an experience. Thanks for sharing and for supporting our pod💪🥋

I wonder if somone can make a Tshirt like top that can withstand training🤔
seriously? have you not seen a suit? 90% of all suit jackets are pretty much a gi top
The Gi is a representation of clothing, which we wear every day of our lives 🙄
🤔🤔🥋🤷♂️🫶
especially if you work in an office and have to wear a suit

homey says if Pakistan isn’t allowed to export textiles they will make bomb vests and cause nuclear war with India….. FML
