- In this Part one Super 8 classics with sound, we cover Marion before the Logansport/Columbus Panhandle was pulled up. At this time in the late 70's and early 80's, Conrail had added more trains from Columbus to Elkhart and to Logansport. This stopped before I went to video so although really rough looking quality, these scenes were rare on movies around here. We also visit the Conrail Chicago Line at South Bend and went to Chicago for a day to capture some footage of the C&NW commuters as the E and F units were due to be replaced in a few months. My brother took this footage in Chicago because I had just started with my first video camera so I will eventually post my VHS versions in the future. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe.

Grand Trunk was known as the South Bend Sub Battle Creek Division Marion has GM Plant. There along the Marion Branch which was a great spot for trains. I used to go to Lafayette and Conrail ran a Local WSAV-18 THAT go up the Crawfordsville Branch to go to Lafayette or Frankfort

4:17 That's been one of your guys' spots at Marion for a long time! Most of Kevin's videos from about 20 years ago were right in the same place, so it's pretty crazy seeing the same spot in 8mm.
7:55 Having been born in the '90s, I've obviously never seen a train move that fast on the C&O west of Marion. Of course, it's even weirder seeing Amtraks on the PRR while it was still there.
Yes the C&O had just laid welded rail just a few years before it was pulled up in 92. They were hard to chase towards Peru. Especially Amtrak. The scenes of Amtrak west of Marion were on the C&O. The PRR never had Amtrak on the Panhandle but in the early 70's, we saw a couple reroutes of the Broadway Limited. The last regular scheduled passenger train on the PRR in Marion was 1958.
Yes Kevin really loves that spot. Still does. Kevin took most of this super 8 sound movies as I had gone to video at that time.

When were the Marion scenes filmed?
The Marion scenes were in 1979 & 1980. The Chicago stuff jumped up to 1982.
When did Conrail abandon the line from Logansport?
I think around 1980 from the Marion line but I believe the line from Kokomo lasted longer.
How long did TP&W’s run-through arrangement last?
It lasted until the line east of Hartford City around 1981. They ran to Columbus, Ohio at that time. I sure do miss that line going to Columbus. Was closed just at the time I bought a video camera
