- Today we test the best catfish baits at Walmart to see if they actually catch catfish. I have always had mixed opinions about these artificial catfish baits from Walmart, so today we grab a few and test them for ourselves.
We ended up getting the good ole magic bait, powerbait catfish chunks, the worlds best catfish bait, and finally these baby marinated shad. I know you all say catfish eat anything but if they did we would use anything as bait and not our favorites.

Richard Gene did a recent episode on magic bait. He was molding it around the hook. Made me wonder if you could use it as an attractant in combination with another bait maybe smashing it around the swivel or sinker !?

I've tried the magic bait works great for big gills fishing for catfish and kept getting them around sunset I was using it with a bobber it's a rather weedy pond circle hooks I use for kittys
Heck yea I’ve done ok with it for cats. Circle hooks are the cheat code
My favorite new favorite brand punch bait is cjs shad formula and cjs monster bait and it stays on the treble hook really well

Awesome video & excellent point on farm raised vs wild catfish. When I lived in Phoenix Az, fishing those “urban lakes” were a blast with the magic beit ( I’m Hispanic too 😉😆) But now that Ohio is my home, none of those work except the shad to catch crawfish with a trap. Thanks for the great video and again awesome content!!

The magic catfish bait is GOLDDDD. Catfish love it. Only thing is that it’s hard for the bait to stay on the hook
Use treble hooks and mold the dough on it or use dough holder
I use treble hooks with the sponge. Add a little water in that bucket, get it a little soupy, soak your sponge and start pulling them in.
The charlies catfish bait is a stink bait thats supposed to be water down and used with a sponge or stink bait worm. I idk how you got it ti stsy in your hook

My walmart here in Ohio, just started carrying secret-7 catfish bait, I have had tons of success with it in the past, and have great confidence in it, should try it sometime

The stink bait reguardless of brand. Use the applicator sponges or grooved worms Carolina rigged. Massive pointer. Heat up used cooking oil on the stove. Pour a bit in the stink bait and stir till you get the consistency you want. Now you can use a stick and coat it 100% and put it in the water toughen it up a bit then cast it out.

I've used hotdogs, bacon, night crawlers, cheese bait, power bait, liver, shrimp, minnows, Ray's blood bait which is no longer available it was real chicken blood, catfish Charlie, Danny Kings didn't work, live shad as well as cut shad. I have had the best luck on night crawlers, cheese bait, catfish Charlie and shrimp. Believe it or not grasshoppers work damn good in the summer down south.

The best bait is shrimp followed by chicken livers shrimp even beats fresh shad sometimes for big bluecats but flatheads mostly like live unless you drag it
Fresh uncooked shrimp (head on) is my favorite. Ohio reservoir channel cats murder them.

@@terryscogins5575the gulp minnows can usually be found at most Walmarts- the 2-3 inch sizes work fantastic as a multi species bait (I use them to catch bluegills to catch bigger fish) and the big fat 4-5 inchers can catch cats

Small fish are the only ones that hit the magic bait. Whole shad is the best.
Catfish Charlie actually works, I've caught some very nice eater Channels. Nothing huge but good sized eaters.
At Self check out you could of got all that for the price of 1 or 2 items it’s a deal Walmart has

Try the magic bait panfish and roll a couple pieces into a ball it will catch catfish
I heard them baits make good plant food
Mistake number one never, ever, ever, ever, smell a catfish bait nose deep in the bag/container, open it and breath, if you cant smell it its not a good bait. lol Seriously waft it if you cant just smell it opening the container at arms length , they tend to be pungent and seem to have a smell that can run against the wind.

When you push on the stars, just giving one or two really hurts the self check personal. They
get scored on the review. Management gets nasty toward them. Most of them do not want to be on self checkout, or like the machines. Please remember they do not have a choice. A lot of times they deal with really bad mannered people.
But I did noticed that the machine looked clean. If you want to get rid of the self check machines, do not use them. Let management
know.
A note to the wise. They are dirty and the personal sometimes do not have the time to clean them or just will not clean them.
They are also expected to answer a blinking light in 15 seconds. If they don’t make 15 seconds management once again cracks a whip on their back
They are understaffed, underpaid and not appreciated . This is why Walmart can’t get personal. Nine of ten self check personal get sick all the time with Covid or the Flu.
I personally got Covid and influenza B working on self check.
Sorry about the rant, but I thought you should know for your health. Hopefully someone reads this and passes it on.

They don't eat everything. Ive never had any luck with premade catfish bait. Ive tried them all. Could be my area but id like to think im in a good spot for fishing being in MN. Im going to stick with the good ol worm and chicken livers.
note: we really only have channel cats, once in awhile you'll get a flat.

Don't work when I used it
OK, Dude. I'm a well rounded angler, subscriber, watcher and Boomer. I cringe when you use treble hooks. I know, you don't use them all the time. In the day, trebles for keeper/eaters. Singles were more sporting chance, barbless when required or for a challenge. I do appreciate you keeping when they've swallowed it. Not preaching, just not wanting to watch your vids and cringe. Also, your vids have me wanting to suck it up, and give urban/canal fishing a try without shame. I've fished in all kinds of water, never ditches and overflow ponds ;) ...gonna give it go now TY
Treble hooks are necessary for some baits such as softer catfish dough and punch bait. I hate using them but you need to for some baits. I match my baits as well as I can to my hooks. That’s the only reason I’d ever use trebles. Cringe if you must that’s just the way it is. No shame in fishing. Fish anywhere and everywhere you can! One can only be limited by themself
