  • IS WAITROSE CHEAPER THAN ALDI?! Doing My WEEKLY Food Haul From Waitrose! ALDI VS WAITROSE 2023
Elo! Ok ok ok! This was a long time coming. We all know that food costs are increasing - but by how much?? Can I get my food shop from Waitrose for CHEAPER than I can get it from Aldi?? A Viewer of mine mentioned that they can get their shopping cheaper at Waitrose than they can from Aldi and I just HAD TO put this to the test! This is the ultimate Waitrose VS ALDI test!
Doing my usual weekly shop, that I'd normally go to Aldi for, from Waitrose. We then compare product by product with prices how much prices are from Aldi and how much prices of groceries are from Waitrose! I will also be filming a TASTE TEST and eating food from Waitrose for a week video to see how these items compare in taste test to Aldi products. ENJOY AND SUBSCRIBE!

I saw a tiktok on this subject before - the misconception is M&S and waitrose are more expensive, then all the middle class people shop there and they end up getting cheaper prices on stuff like milk etc.
Actually turned out to be true 😂 my husband and I have a lidl, tesco, M&S and waitrose near us. And comparably the difference in cost was marginal - especially if you take into account our veg/fruit always seems to go instantly from lidl, and also the meat always seems to go off before the date 👀
And items it was more expensive either seemed to be better quality or to last so much longer 😅

I will have to disagree. ALDI especially fresh items are no way near as fresh as the Waitrose. Its a challenge to use them before they go off 😢 for that reason I've stopped doing my weekly shop at Aldi even though it costs more. I go to Sainsbury's and the quality is much better. Xxx

I always used to shop at Lidl or Aldi until I moved to Kensington 1 year ago and started shopping at the local Waitrose. I noticed that the selective shopping I've always actually turned out cheaper in Waitrose, especially their essential range, which quality wise is just as good as branded products. They also do some really good discount and regular voucher deals if you sign up for the card.

Tomatoes grow both indoors and outdoors. Growing your own, especially heirloom varieties is worth it. Same goes for cabbages including broccoli. Potatoes that have sprouted grow well in a sack filled with dirt but have to be well separated from tomatoes. Spring onions root ends regrow even rather densely planted in a flower pot. Sprouted garlic cloves can be planted and harvested for the stalks and scales and will still produce bulbs. Lemon and cinnamon basil make beautiful house plants in a sunny window, perfume the house and are delicious in hot and cold dishes. Nastier I I'm is beautiful on a garden wall or window sill and has delicious flowers that are high in lutein and make any salad spectacular. Strawberries are also good to grow.

I do have to agree with the commenter that inspired this video, I was doing an online Aldi order and it came to £83 soo I thought I would check Waitrose and it came to £55. That’s for 2 adults and a 10 month old! But great video as always 😊

Thank you for proving the doubters wrong. I'm bored listening to aldi regulars complaining about the price rises and that they find alternative supermarkets much cheaper now. The reality is all food prices have risen, some quite dramatically, across all supermarkets but aldi is still good value and you have just proved that. Thank you 😀

I love Waitrose as a treat. Lovely quality fresh fruit and veg. Plus their gluten free own brand products like cakes and bread are excellent. Not cheap, but I like to go maybe once a month around pay day. I'm not loyal to one store. I shop around, especially in M&S for yellow stickers. Especially gluten free stuff again. I recommend shopping around different stores so you can get the best prices. For example, stock up once a month at Aldi on things like pantry staples like tinned stuff if you know they will be more expensive in Waitrose. Look for yellow stickers where possible. xx

This was really interesting. We don't have a Waitrose near us so it wouldn't be cost effective, otherwise I'd be going for the apples! On balance I think your shopping list (while very similar to my own) might not be the average shop and includes items that are more expensive in somewhere like Waitrose. I think a shop that didn't contain any "luxury" items and included things like chicken thighs, veg, fruit, cheese etc all from their essentials range could possibly work out the same, if not cheaper. Really i think it will just depend what you buy. The trick would probably to look up their prices online and compare but I don't have time for that 🤣

The main reason I prefer lidl is purely down to the depth of the shopping trolleys. My back aches after an Aldi shop as their trolleys are so deep. Lidl trolley base is higher up but perhaps longer. So its more painful for me to shop in Aldi, although I do love their food and prices. It could be just me though! It is difficult to fit a full large family shop in the mini trolleys, which are even better for me.

But my god the pain in my pelvis and back when I’m done is so painful

Have you ever made chocolate ice cream out of bananas? I bought PB protein powder and wanted to use it in other things. So I went to their website, and I found a lot of recipes. I made some chocolate ice cream last night with it. It has 3 bananas ( frozen), 3 tablespoons of PB2, 2 tablespoons of Cocoa powder, 1/4 cup of almond milk or coconut milk. I have only seen the PB2 peanut butter. So I substituted the regular for the chocolate, and I used the other ingredients as stated. I used almond milk instead of coconut, because I already had it. After blending it all up, you put it in a container and freeze it overnight. Needless to say, I wound up having to add more milk…a little at a time. I tried a little taste this morning and it is really good. My bananas must not have been ripe as should have been, because I wound up adding a little honey and sugar to my mixture. I keep telling myself that it is still a lot healthier than regular ice cream. Which in America we all tend to love a lot of sugar! I am trying to use less sugar to be healthier. So, you may find it to be perfect as is. 😊

There is a potential even if the products come from the same field/farmer, there is a potential that farmers get more profit. this was super interesting. I think there are many factors that can make one shop dearer than another. I think if your only option is Waitrose you will shop differently, some of your Waitrose items were quite high end. I live beside a Waitrose, but Aldi requires a taxi home so I would have to factor in that an Aldi bill needs £10-£12 added on for travel. But I do believe that the quality of Aldi foods far outstrip the quality of the foods many supermarkets price compare with Aldi (specifically Tesco and Sainsbury's budget ranges)

I think to get a true comparison you would need to go by the cost per weight.
Anyone that says Waitrose is on par with Aldi is dreaming.
If you can afford to shop at Waitrose good for you but the majority of food is the same.
If you want good quality that is affordable then learn to cook from scratch and put in the effort to learn what you like and how to cook it.

I usually shop at sainsburys a sthey price much to aldi for around 300 product's and they have some budget brands which are great. I find their fresh produce lasts longer than our aldi, so it's more cost effective anyway.
