  • Houseboating the Trent-Severn Waterway - 2021
    We rented a 32' Seahawk houseboat from Egan Houseboats in Omemee, Ontario and explored part of the Trent-Severn towards Peterborough. It was the perfect summer-of-covid holiday.

      @@denniscrane9753 I've thought about this often. And 100% I would for the experience. I mean we've already done it twice (there's another video on my channel too). The family absolutely loved it. The only thing that makes me hesitate is that they've raised the prices so much from when we did it the first time, along with gas prices... Its not a cheap holiday. But in 2024 I suppose nothing is. 🤷

      @@denniscrane9753 I had no problems with Egan. The boats are old, you kinda need to factor in there might be problems.. expect them and you won't be disappointed when they happen 😂🤷. They did seem to respond quickly and work hard to rectify them. We had to call and a guy would drive out for minor repairs a couple of times. No biggie.

    My family has a houseboat trip coming up this summer! Curious where did you moore at night? And how far did you get before you headed back?

    • @tokyosteve1223
      @tokyosteve1223  2 роки тому

      The Egan houseboats came with a lock pass, so we could moor at any lock. So we stayed primarily at the various locks, but also moored at Wolf Island provincial park near Lovesick Lock for a night.
      We saw houseboats pulled up at many of the small (uninhabited) islands along the way. Lots of options.
      Both years we went we turned around at Young's Point or Lakefield. I didn't want to spend too much time driving versus chilling and relaxing ;)

    • @tokyosteve1223
      @tokyosteve1223  2 роки тому +1

      We had the boat for a week. Longest day was from Egan on Pigeon Lake to Buckhorn.. 3-4 hours. After that we traveled less per day and turned around at Lakefield one year, and Young's Point the next year. The longest haul is definitely to/from Egan across Pigeon Lake.

    Thank you for the video, it looks super fun. Do you mind sharing how long did it take you guys to do the round trip (5 or 7 days) and how much fuel did you need (apart from what you are showing here)? Also have you ever go West towards Orillia? We are planning on doing something similar this Fall and we are trying to decide what way to go from Omemee. cheers :)

      Glad you enjoyed it. I went before fuel prices went stupid and I believe it was about $200-250 total for our 7 day trip. That said, we didn't travel excessive distances, and turned around at Young's Point one year and Lakefield another. I've never gone west, only because I was told it's more picturesque to the east.

    2). how were the mosquitoes and black flies?
    Thanks and cheers

      Glad you enjoyed it. First year was late June (Burleigh video 2020). Second year (this video) was mid July. Both were great. Slightly warmer water for swimming in July. Didn't see any biting flies. Mosquitoes came and went depending on location. Wolf Island was pretty bad. I don't recall it being bad elsewhere.
      Lucked out with no rain both years as well. Absolutely perfect during the day. The drone footage at Wolf Island looks cloudy / hazy, but it's actually forest fire smoke.
      Book early. It's become a very popular covid holiday.
