This opera is actually one of the best ever! We need this one on video! My children are fans, King Carott is so cool, the musique is fun, casting is awesome, and the sets are beautiful. We recorded it on tv but with a missing part as it was long. We didn t see the end! 😣 we need to see it again full version! 🥕👑
the entire opera with french subtitles can be found on my.mail.ru/video (russian website, equivalent to youtube), i wrote "le roi carotte" in the search bar on the website and i founded it.
Jaköble Offenbach🏆💐🌹🌹🌹🌹 l'immortel! This is the REAL Jaques Offenbach! An Artist who gave the most precious melodies to us poor mortals! His music will remain in sensuous hearts .
I'm no Frenchie, but I bet that the lady in the green dress at 2:02 is a witch that has cast a spell on the courtiers. She didn't get the prince and pricess because they were laughing (I'm guessing) outside of the ball room. However, she then cast another spell at 2:35 and this time got the princess too, leaving only the prince with common sense. After that all courtiers and the princess are arguing with the prince that the carrot is in fact a king.
Yes, I came here from TwoSet too. But it seems they didn't know it was Offenbach! "The music is kinda catchy", they said. TwoSet are Supreme, but they gotta brush up on their opera!
To resume the first act : the king Fridolin is really suck, he sell the armor of his heritage to make this party so the witch (the woman in green) decide to put a carrot to make a better king. To convince the court the witch, has make change minds to make an more easy putch for the King Carrot's. Idk if you can understand I'm french I make all my best.
Okay simple explanation first the king servant says that there’s someone an uninvited guest coming to the party with his servants so the king and the queen are wondering who it is and when the king carrot enters the party ,people are confused and start saying oh my , these are vegetables, the king then asks what’s your name ? To the carrot and it says I am king carrot so the king and queen start laughing and saying how ugly he is and the crowd does the same and then the witch up there makes the people say good things about king carrot with her magic and ne that’s why the king and queen are confused ,and then the witch makes the queen say good things about king carrot , the king then asks him who are you really ? And he says I already told you and after that he and his companions start singing beware of the king carrot and this is it
It's been records you need to look online on arte concert or medici TV but i'm pretty sure the captation IS somewhere on the internet. Personnaly saw this production twice in Lyon, was fantastic !
@@manonclaudia You are a very lucky person. I'll try Medici and see if they have it. Good Offenbach productions, typically French and Paris/Lyon, are an absolute and true joy.
Weirdly though, from their movements, I assume it's about a false king (Carrot) sets deceitful spells to the people through the woman upstairs. But one the mayors (I assume) is free from the spell and feel scared for being only one to see truth. But the false king already plagues their mind and accuses him for treason or so. The mayor lies to deny that truth that he hates the false king but he has already been exposed even after the party dancing. And maybe the soldiers represent the false king's dictatorship? No idea. I like the songs, costumes, & actings though.
The Carrot King invites himself to the bal. Everyone is scared first, he is mocked, said ugly, stupid, etc. But after some spell casting from the lady up there, they suddenly all love him, except the Princess and the Prince. The witch lady insists and even the Princess falls for the Carrot King. From that, everything silly and uncivilized that the Carrot King does is blamed on the Prince, like if he is the one doing it (getting drunk, sneezing, yawning, etc.). A literal nightmare for the Prince, stuck in this nonsense reality. Finally, he calls to his ancestors to help him overcome this madness. But there comes the "ancestors", all his lineage in armors, being pretty pissed that he calls on them after all that time he bitched about them during his reign. So they start chasing him and everyone ends up asking for the Prince's head. He has to run away for his life and the Carrot King is acclaimed. It's "Le Roi Carotte" from Jacques Offenbach (French), premiered in 1872. So it appears there was some strong weed even back in the 19th century...
I just heard what happens after... it's not only weed at this point. The hero, the Prince, will travel in time to Pompei (after and then before the volcano's erutption), then there are more veggies brought to life and more empty armors seeking vengeance. And they also go in an ants colony....
@@fyrost ...that's a weird story but enjoyablely in opera ways huh. Is there like any symbolism though? Like the Carotte represents evil goverment and the prince is like survivor of his indoctrinize? Or then the ancestors are wisdoms that he neglects then he blames himslef for not listening to their advise? It feels so weird anyway. But thanks for the infos. It sounds funny 😅😅😅
