Wonderful video. For those who are interested in the geography, Miley is rowing on the Katsura River near the famous Togetsukyo Bridge in the western outskirts of Kyoto. The bridge can be seen in the background at the beginning of the video. Arashiyama is both the name of the mountain and the district. I have never been there, just did a little research on the net.

I guess that maybe during the summer, a lot of people would enjoy doing that! 😀 By the way, a bit out from the subject, but while you were on the temple, you got a little concerned about the hilarious pantsu shot... i like when ganko chan and buruma speak. i have seen boats like that, that have pedals so you can sit with someone and pedal and the boat moves. Might have been at cannon hill park england long ago. Bet your arms miley had big work out that day with the rowing. bumper cars on water with boats lol. i actually did think the men on the end of the pier was the drivers, where you select boat and they can offer to go with you to row, like the female rick shaw drivers.

On a more serious note, I remember I tried rowing and I had exactly the same problems you did. I can't remember how long I practiced, but I remember at the end I got a little better and it started to become a lot easier. Another one of those "Relax and let the tool do the work" kind of situations.

You soon learned to row your boat! There's an old English nursery rhyme, which goes: 'Row, row, row your boat, gently down the stream, verily, verily, verily, verily, life is but a dream.' 'Verily' is an old word for 'truly', and because most people don't use it now, modern versions of the rhyme often change the word to 'merrily', which of course is a different meaning. 'Merrily' does suit the way you row in this boat! Hey, it's good exercise, and it's nice to see you out in the open on a lake, and with trees in the background, as a change from the city.
Actually it was always 'merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily' and never 'verily', don't know why that came into my head. I misremembered!

I do use Google translate but may also try "Japanese translate by Excite" as an alternative. It is said to be quite good.
I write words and phrases on "sticky note papers" and put them about the house to learn them🔰(I saw that you do that too!). Kakkoii
