Not looking ahead but I sure hope 3499 Gungan Sub is tops. Improved on it in every single way. The double sided heads with breathing apparatuses, the ability to seat the characters like they’re supposed to be…Plus including that amazing Queen Amidala
I'm glad LEGO has come so far with updating iconic vehicles, locations and characters...But there's still something charming with the older sets from the 2000's/early 2010's especially since I feel things were more consistent with the super hero's theme and the fact they were experimenting and making their own action themes and original themes in general because lately Lego has been making some really weird decisions and I hope they get back on track so the company doesn't go bankrupt again
Man this video is a nostalgia trip for me. I had a lot of those original sets, like the airspeeder, the x-wing, the at-st, darth maul’s ship, Anakin’s pod racer, obi-wan’s starfighter, and others. Good times.
5:56 OG UCS Star Destroyer owner here - the magnets issue was actually a misprint in the manual. If you move them slightly they hold forever (well at least mine is still standing after 20 year ... damn I got old ...)
I think as the years went on, the vehicles became less of a focus as the draw became more for the iconic figures. Sets like the new Seperatist AATs and the Marvel HeliCarrier seem to want the minifigs to be front and center, with the vehicle as the backdrop.
Love the little Easter eggs that the dancing characters ARE kinda ARE the people who own the ship like Han solo and chewie for the Millennium falcon and Luke and ben kenobi for the sandcrawler also palpatine for the imperial shuttle
2:01 Lego actually did the Light up hand effect for a few different sets outside of Star Wars. Like their Police sets had the glowing hands, but instead of a Lightsaber, you slapped a yellow stud on top and they worked like Flashlights.
I remember the Episode 3 Era sets, they were pretty incredible in fact. The Clone tripod, the ARC-170 first edition which was amazing, and even this pretty rare set which contained Obiwan's and Anakin's starfighters, with 2 vulture droids and a tri-fighter. And the Bee Gees haircut for Anakin was incredible. We can also speak about the Republic Gunship evolution. Incredible.
I completely agree man! And honestly I don’t know how LEGO is going to keep improving on set remakes in the future without them looking too much like models
@@mjfeldy I’ve thought about this and I think what they can do to continue improving is include more unique minifgs. That’s a vein they could almost never fully tap
Something I picked up on is that the 2021 Tie Fighter set is actually based on the Ties seen in Star Wars Rebels. Those ties are the grey and black as seen but also the short wings.
I love the evolution of lego, but I feel that I can no longer justify the price of the products, a lot of the vehicles that I wanted to see and can afford now have either already been done and wont be done again for awhile or are just wayy to pricey for what it provides.
"so that you and your friends - if you have any - can duel each other" Hah. Great video! The newer sets do indeed look really really cool, but as others have said the charm of the "generic piece" sets is sadly gone. I would love to say that there is some objective truth in having sets where the designer had to get creative with generic pieces, but I suspect what I'm really experiencing is just... being in my 30s and longing for days gone by 😅
I'm pretty sure they stopped producing the light-up minifigs due to them having short battery life, and also once the battery ran out it was impossible to replace.
Man, I miss the days when licensed minifigs had yellow faces and were printed in the same style as regular minifigs. The main appeal of Lego to me was always the ability to combine EVERYTHING seamlessly. The new licensed minifigs and specialised bricks and what not make that difficult.
Honestly I love most of the 1999-2004 sets, some of them look goofy like the first Slave 1 and the blue tie fighters but there’s something about them I love, probably because of the Lego Star Wars games since I never had any Lego sets as a kid so nowadays for me it’s like having an in game item in real life even though the intention of the games was the opposite of that
I had the 1999 Darth Maul ship and 2000 Slave 1. Loved playing with them. And in some ways I’d prefer them over newer models, because they actually look like LEGO with a lot of normal bricks.
SO. MUCH. THIS. For me, old kits have a lot of charm because they actually look like a lego recreation of the actual vehicles. Today, so many of the sets look like a toys with some lego features (overuse of the curved and rounded one-of-a-kind bricks that are recreating entire sections of the vehicle. It's a sin universal to lego overall, not just SW sets).
I had the old transformation table but my mum said I couldn't open it till my birthday in 3-4 months. I carried it everywhere with me, to school, around the house until I could open it. It disappeared overtime as things always do but I am so sad that it's gone :(
The 2001 TIE fighter was, I believe, my very first true exploit into lego building. I must've been five or six. I miss getting stuff like that for Christmas.
Actually, you can see the back of the cockpit section of the T-16 in it's hanger in A New Hope, directly behind C-3PO as he's lowering into the oil bath. The gantry that Luke walks across to enter the workshop areas runs behind the engine and above the lower wings. It's hard to spot when you're not looking for it, but it's there, as well as his toy model version of course.
Honestly, I get why the mid 2000s sets are so nostalgic. They were from when the Lego Star Wars video games came out. I felt like having one of the sets featured in the game was a status symbol.
This is my most favourite video of yours to date! Great work buddy! Youve made an awesome video! I think the most recent droid carrier is perfect and could not be improved!
i had the lego mtt from 2007 we were re doing part of our house and a door fell sideways hit the ground and crushed it i couldnt express how devistated i was when i saw that happen man i miss it.
There is one problem with all the Lego X-Wings including the new ones which I’ve always had to fix myself. Rear landing gear. Anyone who has an X-Wing set knows what I mean 😔
Years ago my dad forget to get a gift for my mom for Christmas, so he came back with a millennium falcon lego set…..the original 1 st model… It’s still in the box somewhere in their basement. He never let my brother and I as kids get access to it which was a good decision lol.
What do you think the best LEGO Star Wars remake is?
Not looking ahead but I sure hope 3499 Gungan Sub is tops. Improved on it in every single way. The double sided heads with breathing apparatuses, the ability to seat the characters like they’re supposed to be…Plus including that amazing Queen Amidala
@@countof3everybodyOD I didn’t mention that one in this video, but that is a great remake!
having old lego Star Wars sets are great! Since they are now lots of money. But really just collectors items.
I like the 2017 Obiwan Star Fighter with Booster Ring set!!! :) I love your editing!!!
2013 gunship was quite a step up from the 2002 gunship. I know there was another gunship in between but it was not an episode II version.

Yeah, my lego magnets still hold after 30 years so I doubted it was because of "wearing out". Thanks for the explanation!
I think as the years went on, the vehicles became less of a focus as the draw became more for the iconic figures. Sets like the new Seperatist AATs and the Marvel HeliCarrier seem to want the minifigs to be front and center, with the vehicle as the backdrop.
The dancing Lego Star Wars characters between explanations is by far the best part of the video
what about 08:20
Love the little Easter eggs that the dancing characters ARE kinda ARE the people who own the ship like
Han solo and chewie for the Millennium falcon and Luke and ben kenobi for the sandcrawler also palpatine for the imperial shuttle
these are some of the best chapter transitions ever, thank you youtube for gracing me with this video in my reccommended
I have so many old sets it's ridiculous. Even my 1st edition Falcon still sits on my shelf to this day
2:01 Lego actually did the Light up hand effect for a few different sets outside of Star Wars. Like their Police sets had the glowing hands, but instead of a Lightsaber, you slapped a yellow stud on top and they worked like Flashlights.

@@mjfeldy Yeah! I had a few of'em. It really was a neat concept for the time.

That first TIE Fighter is so nostalgic. I remember being so confused why every TIE Fighter I saw after was grey instead.
Tbh the intros to each set are peak

I'm dying laughing right now.
Thats not enough... We need more... MORE LANDSPEEDERS!! I NEEED THEMM!
i remember having that original grey snowspeeder just because the cannons on it were iconic to its design.
the transitions in this video are my favourite thing ever
Amazing video.
8:19 That made me laugh so hard xD
Mee too lol. That was perfect
Mid 2010s were gold for LEGO SW sets
9:24 They also change the name from 'Slave I' to 'Boba Fett's Starship' Because the word "Slave" isn't Kid friendly.
I feel like some new Lego sets stray too far from being Lego. It’s important that Lego sets still look like Lego and not a model.

who’s gonna tell homie that the builds for the first two imperial shuttles are exactly the same except for a few pieces…
I wasn’t even around for when the first Millenium Falcon came but for some reason that design is so charming and goofy I love it
I wasn't really expecting some of the newer LEGO sets to be less detailed and less accurate than their predecessors.
Those transitions though

Pro tip: A comparison works much better when you actually show the sets more than 1 second each and ideally side by side.
