    There is a point coming up in the comments which needs clarification:
    The current Conservative Government is banning serrated 'zombie' style knives, and this will come into force in September.
    This is an election year and the opposition Labour Party want to get in (and might). They want to ban ALL swords. Labour argue that there are no legitimate reasons for most people to have access to swords. Labour MP Helen Hayes has been clear on this - you can read her words yourself here:

      I would disagree with the Labour Party on this one even though I am not from the United Kingdom. Home defense is a perfectly acceptable reason to have swords, among other weapons, in the home especially when firearms may be off the table. Barricade yourself in a room and if they come in the home owner has done everything they can do avoid mortally wounding the intruder. Your home is your castle and whoever breaks into your home clearly does not care about what following consequences could follow. Plus, collecting just because you appreciate a certain type of blade/weapon design or have a business are perfectly legitimate reasons as well. I believe this shows just how out of touch the party and or certain members are out of touch.

      I love your channel and the study of medieval weapons is a fascinating subject but in reality there is no real reason for people to own swords and swords or sword type weapons have been used in criminal . Suspect fencing equipment will be exempt and probably quite a few other things as well and will work out OK like the firearms laws

    • @tonyham3511
      @tonyham3511 7 місяців тому +20

      Exactly. Anything can be used as a weapon - the origin of violence begins in the mind where the thought is conceived & acted upon using whatever means possible.
      There are more incidences of vehicles being used to maim & kill than swords but we don't ban them because we need them in today's world & we understand it's the individual not the thing they use. A sword is useless without the person wielding it intending to cause harm. Yet politicians & many of the populace either fail to understand the principle or fail to apply it fully, showing bias. Of course accidents happen too, but we understand they tend not to be the fault of the thing but rather recklessness, coincidence or even faults of the construction of the thing, ect.
      The crazy thing is that you almost never hear swords being used to harm anymore in the UK, yet we're supposed to believe they're a threat to the public. Politicians are famous for solving problems that weren't problems to begin with & creating problems in the process. Thanks to the fearmongering media, they've convinced many people to live in fear & to support nonsensical policies that help none, other than the people who want to abuse their power & enslave us.
      Our governments are a joke & the West is falling for a reason. If our forebears saw all this I think they would be outraged & do something about it. This is sabotage of our liberal democracies from the inside. All our freedoms our forebears fought for will be gone at this rate & replaced with authoritarian dictates.

It was too large to put in any checked luggage, so I was allowed to carry it on with the promise that I wouldn’t remove it from its scabbard while on the plane. Sitting close by we’re some older gentleman and they had also fought in the war and were interested in looking at it, then eventually the pilot of the 747 came out to have a gander. The real issue is that swords aren't used in crime and crime is just a product of poverty. Because many of those shootings could have been stopped before they'd even happened, since selling to someone on a federal watch list is a fast way to lose your store at minimum. And the shootings that involved either illegally obtained guns or guns bought before their watch list status would have been stopped if they couldn't have made it into the building. Or couldn't sneak the gun in if the potential shooter is a student (who shouldn't be able to get a legal gun period). Security measures which do work, its just that a potential shooter being stopped before he can do anything isn't big enough news to get front page coverage. Speaking of another big help would be if the media would just stop turning these people into freaking celebrities! Its just a nasty cycle at this point. The media gets double duty from school shootings, because they have the massive shock value to draw viewers and fit their anti-gun personal beliefs. This leads to them turning the whole thing into a weeks long worldwide circus with near constant coverage. Which in turn inspires some crazed nobody to decide that if they're going to kill themselves anyway, might as well go out by spreading their misery as much as possible and becoming a worldwide celebrity in the process.

Also looking into how that friend of the chief Constable who allowed the person to have a certificate back after it had been revoked, thus making the pistols legal. Also in answer has crime with hand guns (pistols) decreased? No it has increased and does so year on year since the ban. If hammers were used would you have them banned. If a person drinks and drives a car into a crowd would you ban cars? Your argument is ill conceived and disingenuous. As stated in the video!

      I don't know about that. Maybe, maybe not. I was doing kind of a deep dive on traffic fatalities in my local area for a project that I'm not going to go into. I found out that about 2/3 of them are known to have involved an intoxicated driver. About 15% of them involved a hit and run. Those people are usually drunk, but it's generally pretty hard to prove that they were drunk at the time.
      Now I'm gonna put some caveats out there. These were *only* accidents with fatalities. Doesn't include any incidents with no injuries *or* incidents with serious injuries. And this was only in my local area. There's some serious bias in the way this information is handled, and I expect that would be true no matter how you care to slice it. I suspect that the only people that have a really clear picture on this are the insurance companies but hell, there's even bias there.
      For what it's worth, I do suspect that the bulk of the more minor accidents, where everyone walks away, are just caused by bad drivers and/or simple mistakes. The really serious ones though? They generally seem to me to involve a compounding series of bad decisions.

      @matthewbooth9265 It's like when someone rolls up to shore in a boat and starts to inquire about purchasing bulk quantities of mice to solve an elephant infestation on their island. The UK traded violent gun crime, for violent knife crime. One day when a legislator or a sufficiently famous person realizes that most of the legitimate uses for a knife can be accomplished with scissors, they will trade knife crime for scissor crime. Then what naturally beats scissors? Rock beats scissors. No one on that island with even a smidgen of power seems to realize that the problem that needs to be solved with violent "gun/knife/weapon" crime is the "violent crime" part. A criminal will use the most effective weapon available to them to commit a violent crime. The only effective way to stop them is to have a more well-armed victim or rather potential victim. What they should, and never will do, is legalize handgun ownership and sales to law-abiding citizens. Then legalize the carry and use of firearms for self-defense too. Guns are so scarce that only the new owners would have them and violent knife crime would drop to near zero seemingly overnight. They could even make the guns only transferable within families by will or dead letter. Otherwise, the firearm would have to be sold to a government authority. This will never happen, Soooooo... I'm looking forward to rock breaking scissors. Along with the eventual: Paper outlawing rocks due to uncontrollably rampant, violent rock crime outbreaks.

      @@11C1P I'm a member of my country's largest pro-gun organisation (not in the US), and the majority of members I meet tend to be fudds. It's the prevailing attitude here. They're not interested in trying to restore any of the rights that have been taken from us. They just want to maintain what we have. I hate to be pessimistic but I do agree with a lot of them when their attitude is "well they're never gonna give us semi-autos back anyway, and full autos? Forget about it!". I don't ever see that happening here either. It's a miracle we still have as many "gun priveleges" as we do, because the majority of the population who live in the cities absolutely hate guns and laugh at Americans for still having their 2A whenever a tragedy occurs (which is a disgusting attitude btw and I hate it when the media here proliferates that mocking attitude in the face of an absolute tragedy). But if you are talking to a member in friendly conversation and mention that you wish that something you saw in a youtube video or whatever was legal here, their response is so predictable; "Pfft, but why would you ever need that? You've got a .303 that's good enough for shooting anything we have here! Anything smaller you've got your .22! If you need more rounds you've got your lever action 30-30, that's fast enough, and if you want to shoot birds you've got a double barrel 12g, no one NEEDS anything else!"
      That attitude of "well why do you NEED that???" annoys me.
      It isn't about what we need, it's purely that we should be able to if the laws here were consistent. But if they insist on requiring a sporting reason, well, many disciplines of target sports can only be ran with semi-autos.

      Making something illegal can make it harder to obtain, forcing a criminal to use a less effective alternative or requiring them to risk arrest when obtaining or possessing an illegal implement. Furthermore, many crimes are committed by impulse with whatever is easily available.
      While a combat knife or sword could be replaced by any number of similarly effective tools that can't be effectively banned, something like a submachinegun has few easily accessible equivalents. Sure, a properly equipped and competent criminal can make a passable firearm, few have the skill and temperament to do so. A madman with a machine gun is less of a threat than one with a bolt-action hunting rifle or a kitchen knife. The difference between somebody with a machete and one with a claw hammer or kitchen knife is more subtle.

    • @Khornedevotee
      @Khornedevotee 7 місяців тому +2

      And it seems that will never change. Politicians will remain lazy because people are typically lazy, preferring the quick and easy uncomplicated route, rather than the hard route, even though it might be the best course of action that will prove to be effective and yield the desired results. It's because of this fact that we willl always end up right back at this very point. Until that cycle breaks, we will never improve as a society and will always be held back by ourselves. I guess the old saying that we are our greatest enemy is true.
      The only way to make things happen is if we take action, civilians and politicians alike. Societies sure are complicated. You'd think that pleasing the masses is easy, but lo and behold, it is not because not everyone are plased by the same things. Even pleasing the masses still means that some people will be displeased and will form public protests.
      I don't envy the politicians position, because as a politician you are forced to listen to people's opinions and that can be annoying as it is as an average civilian Joe. The advantage as a civilian is that if we don't like somebody's opinions or them as a person, we can just walk away. A politician will get a lot of problems if they don't listen to the people and outright ignores them, maybe hoping that the problems will go away on their own(they typically do not unless someone does something).
      So hopefully this will change one day, politicians getting less lazy(not likely anyime soon) and more active with the actual problems than implementing laws that the politicians pretend will work. Maybe one day some major event will occur to make that happen. But not yet. I think most people in general must change first.

      @@RedAngryBadger fair play, I mis spoke. But I don't agree with any Civilian having access to a weapon that can fire on automatic, and actually I'm against the large scale civilian ownership of firearms .... it doesn't seem to help nake people safer if the statistics for the USA are accurate.

    Government has exactly three solutions for any problem: tax it, regulate it, or ban it. Note that they don't actually care if this solves the problem. Given how often the slippery slope of weapon banning is proven true, I would argue they _prefer_ nothing is solved so they always have an excuse for more taxes, more regulations, and more bans.

      Well, they can also do the opposite (reduce tax, deregulate, unban) and also have a 4th lever- spend the tax to fund something helpful.
