the girl working at stores for free is so horrifyingly dystopian to me. late stage capitalism has led her to getting a job where she films herself doing free labor for a company she is not employed by in the hopes that enough people will watch her videos where she works for free so that she can in turn make money. i think im short circuiting.
Is it any worse than internships where workers give free samples of their labor to companies in the hope that the company will offer to start paying them at the end?
It's not really "filming and HOPING enough people will see that she will then make money" The videos were sponsored. So she gets paid no matter what. Last one was sponsored by Olli-pops or whatever. And sponsorships pay well. So she's making more $$$ then the actual employees, while also saying "its so fun working for free!" It is pretty messed up. Cosplaying as someone working class or lower class.
i’m just confused why wouldn’t they do something like volunteer for smaller businesses instead of… working for free for huge corporations?? idk why they wouldn’t put their hard work somewhere it’s appreciated
the “working at walmart for free” girl exemplifies something vital about capitalism that doesn’t really talked about: that labor (ie the act of doing productive tasks) can be fun and rewarding in and of itself, and the hell of this system is being forced to do it for money in order to barely survive, not the act itself. my husband is one of those people that genuinely loved the organization and people-serving of retail, he just didn’t like being paid jack shit and treated like garbage and having to basically live at his store because they made him work so much. and also yeah the fact that her pastime becomes “content” and propaganda for walmart at the end of the day does super suck
People would love working at Walmart, if they were getting paid anything close to what an influencer makes with one sponsored video or picture. The difference in pay is MASSIVE.
yeah. some people feel fulfilled when doing task for others. Back in school, I used to love giving my time for others, but then the instructors kept giving me tasks I can't keep up with + drag along my classmates who said they can't give time + saying "well she can do it, why can't you?" & everything didn't seem enjoyable anymore :(
that girl "working" for free should take that energy to her local food shelf or something. I volunteered at mine in high school and I genuinely had a really good time doing it, the only reason I stopped was because of COVID restrictions.
I 100% agree, but I think these people are mainly going for what seems weird or shocking enough to get views. The main priority is not to actually help others, but to make trending content. It reminds me of the girl who goes into random businesses to clean their toilets.
I volunteered a bunch in hs too, there was this church that made free dinner for anyone who wanted to come in and I would serve food and coffee and clean up after, and the gratitude I received from ppl who wouldn’t have been able to eat otherwise made me feel like I was genuinely making a difference for the first time in my life, and I’ve never felt more accomplished
I’m an employee at the worlds largest Starbucks in Chicago and also a member of the union campaign at said store, and the boycott support is so appreciated:) the Stanley cup craze has been insane, especially because our store doesn’t even sell regular Starbucks merchandise, and all the surrounding stores sold out of them in like 2 hours. So lots of getting yelled at for a cup we were never able to sell in the first place all by people who are already breaking a boycott. Did want to mention if anyone reads it: the boycott is because Starbucks is suing its workers union due to its support for Palestine. PLEASE don’t harass employees or ask them to quit!!! If we LOSE all of the pro-union/pro-Palestine employees, our union fails and those workers will be replaced with people who don’t care and won’t support the union in the future! The BEST thing baristas can do (and that you can ask your barista friends to do) is join their Starbucks workers United union and take collective action with their coworkers and other partners across the country!! :)
Thanks for saying this! A lot of people don’t understand that the heart of the boycott is because corporate is using our staunch support of a free Palestine as a means to union bust! More people need to know this is not just about a horrific genocide. It’s about labor rights.
i worked at a starbucks that was licensed by my college. technically we were independent contractors who could be fired at-will, so unionizing wasn't very possible for us, but i did still quit after 3 months because of how badly i was treated. simultaneous to studying, i had to do clopening shifts twice a week and my boss never listened to me about my availability. love walking home from work at 11 PM, working on chemical engineering homework, only so i can wake up at 5:45 AM and walk back to work THE NEXT MORNING. hope you guys get unionized! ❤
I'm really sorry to hear about that, I hope the customers start calming down in the next few days and your unions remain strong. Just some other reasons in addition to why people are boycotting Starbucks. The former CEO Howard Schultz really helped shaped Starbucks global presence and released a lot of Pro-Israel statements and supported Israel through funding. Due to his efforts, he was awarded 'Israel 50th Anniversary Friend of Zion Tribute Award'. While he is now no longer their CEO now, his models of business and strategies are still being used and his actions still effect us today. There's a great Tiktoker called michael.muyot who did a great video called Howard Schultz x CEO that goes into more detail if anyone ones to learn more.
as a former starbucks barista myself, there are SO many of us who are in support of the union and cheering you on, even if we avoid going to the stores like the plague (especially now...). I remember talking to my coworkers about unionizing months before the union campaign went public. Keep it up! We're rooting for you! WORKERS OF THE WORLD UNITE
Sending so much love ‼️ I’m with Trader Joe’s United, and SBWU has been such a huge support in our campaigns. Y’all are beasts, and I am always in awe of how strong you are and how committed to the fight!! Standing with u in solidarity always (and if ur ever in mpls, I’ll give u a discount at the unionized TJs lmaoo)! ❤️
Starbucks barista here- I can’t speak if boycotts are working nationwide but I feel like my store is busier than ever and it’s absolutely infuriating. I can tell you 100% that the company is going balls to the wall trying to get people to come in tho. We’re having all sorts of stupid specials and things that we are NOT properly staffed to handle. KEEP BOYCOTTING
What also makes me mad is i have a feeling there’s been israel supporters who started coming to starbucks just to be a little piece of shit and give them more money for their horrible views. Ive already seen posts online of people being like “i
same here, i live in a conservative area and my store is getting absolutely slammed. not to mention the new January promotions that include WEEKEND bogo days and 3 dollar grande thursdays! the job was difficult before but I just wish more people were actually boycotting in my area.
@@elif6908 a lot of people are boycotting starbucks because of their support of Israel. In order to support Palestine, people in the US are trying to boycott starbucks, but just like everything else in America, there are still plenty of people who still choose to go. They have a right to, don’t get me wrong.
@@piagebot2943just to add more info, it was the starbucks union that called for the boycott. some employees that were part of the union showed support for palestine, they got fired for it, and then starbucks is trying to sue their union because of it.
What I don't get about the free work girl is why she doesn't just do volunteer work (maybe she does)? Animal shelters appreciate someone to help out with small stuff. Even working part time at a community rec center or other public spaces that need help (libraries, schools, doctors offices). She seems like a sweet person just not aware. (saw she got a brand deal of course...) Also the coolest "cup" I have is a 1 L beaker with my name and graduation year etched on it. I used to work in the science stockroom at my college and it was a grad gift. Also thank you very much for your support of Palestine.
THIS she's getting paid to advertise volunteering for massive corporations that can (yet still under)pay when real service supporting human rights and strengthening community is needed everywhere. these videos don't involve learning or teaching, and give the false impression that she knows what she's doing/is safe and helping/non-disruptive. there is so much work that can be done to help our world. it's a meaningful and enriching challenge to find how our passions help guide us along the path! 🍉🍉🍉
I think one of my favorite parts about the girl that works for free is that companies will *not* invite her to come work because of the liability. Imagine if she gets hurt doing free labor there. Or even worse, something she does causes a customer to be hurt while she's posing as an employee. She just starts stocking shelves with employee carts she sees sitting around, but what if that cart was fllled with recalled baby formula that was just removed from the shelf? It's just not smart or safe and it needs to stop.
I've seen one where she starts "stocking" a shelf and she's not looking at the experation date or if it's actually supposed to be there because she wouldn't know. But also where does she get all that money
when she fucks up an employee needs to fix it, i understand like, pulling an item to the front after you took one or smth i do that but if she fucks up some poor 16 year old will get yelled at :/
That's the first thing I thought of too! All the liability issues this lady could cause! It's dangerous for her and other people around her. I've been an assistant manager in a retail setting before... And I would be so quick to make this lady STOP what she is doing. So many potential bad things could happen... I'd probably tell her she can apply if she wants too haha!
y’all i work at a target okay. i pulled into the parking lot at 6:45 am (store opens at 8) and there were at least 50 people waiting outside the store, lawn chairs and blankets and all, even some with literal toddlers with them. so my manager tells me starbucks only had 35 cups in stock because surprise they don’t get 5000 of things in at once. boss goes outside to inform everyone there’s only 35 and it’s one per family, not per person. everyone is so upset they send the security guy outside. i was very curious to see what happened so i went up to the front to observe when we opened and there was like 100 people in the starbucks line. and my friend that works up there said they were getting constant phone calls asking about the godforsaken cups. anyways, i hate retail.
i used to work overnight at a grocery store that had a liquor store inside of it, and there would be dozens of people lined up from midnight on (the liquor store didn't open until 9am) the day we got our liquor truck. they were waiting for an expensive rare bourbon that only sent out 2-3 bottles per seller per shipment. apparently there was a whole facebook group for tracking shipments. once i found out most of them owned bars it made more sense to me, but it made my smoke breaks really annoying 😭
this just sounds like my personal hell. i'm so sorry. i worked at starbucks before pre-pandemic, it was a full store/drive thru, but honestly i've always thought that the tarbux workers have it 1000x worse. they seem to get even more understaffed and you already know there's constantly a line of shopping moms, teenage girls + kids in the line. at least with like a drive thru location you know things are gonna be stocked or ran a certain way because they want people coming in and out. i still had my share plenty of karens and stuff but NEVER anything i've seen on this scale with the stanley cups. also, i left right before tiktok got popular, so i think i got super lucky because people seem to always be pulling pranks or asking for "x" drink because of social media
29:20 fun fact, the term for this in libraries is edging, because you're pulling the spines of the books to the edge of the shelf. This is the term acnowledged by the Library of Congress. Had to hold back a giggle when I first learned that lol
As former Target team member, I recognized two of the vehicles as belonging to the fulfillment team. There's a high chance that girl unmade several online orders and caused a few people's orders to be late.
That "Working somewhere for free until I get kicked out video" really irritated me. First of all, they're "working" for fun, doing whatever they want wherever they want, can take breaks at any point for as long as they want, and they don't actually have someone managing them and giving out tasks. Secondly, if Walmart is like the grocery chain I worked at, then that 9 hour shift is way longer than most actual employees will get. Where I worked, it was very difficult for anyone other than managers/supervisors to get full time hours, and we would get scheduled for just under the full time requirement. I don't know if it's their intention, but that video seems to make a mockery of the very real complaints employees in those stores have.
Oh yeah the if you don't work a full forty hours but just under, let's say 35 or 37, then we don't have to pay for your healthcare. They pulled that shit at the dollar store by my old house all the time.
Yeah, I was going to say, even an 8 hour shift is rare in retail these days, even rarer to get as little as 30 hours a week. At least at Target, anyway.
One thing about the girl working for free is that what she is doing is literally hazardous. People get trained for a reason, and having an untrained person cleaning floors and bathrooms is a liability. IDC about the company getting sued or whatever, but the workers could definitely get in trouble for not kicking her out (and as someone that works in a grocery store) that's beyond annoying.
My friend words at a store where someone worked at Target "for free". The "work for freer" put away multiple carts of merchandise that was reserved for online pickups and completely fucked up their day.
Some of my worst interactions with humans has been working at Wal Mart. And I was only there for a year and a bit. How people treat other people that way is beyond me.
I currently work at Walmart, and I swear to god the general population just thinks that anyone working there is beneath them. They talk to us like we're literal garbage, even when they're asking us for help. 😕
Worked there for six years in my 20s. Got promoted to department manager. Took two weeks off after my dad died and found out the store manager had been pressuring the assistant to fire me, openly, in front of employees I supervised (who told me about it, thank GOD). Because I had been out too long. I put in my notice the day after I found out.
I get paid by the hour, and I get sent home from work early if there’s nothing to do. Sometimes that’s nice, but sometimes I need the money and it can make things hard. …something to consider if you’re “helping” in a place you don’t actually work.
Something about that Stanley Cup tiktok using My Love Mine All Mine by Mitski, *a song about her ability to love being the only thing in life that she has true ownership over,* is giving me absolute fucking tonal whiplash
It’s no coincidence that we’ve been seeing more Starbucks advertisements, sponsorships and collabs within these past 3 months than we ever have in the past years… like does anyone actually recall seeing any Starbucks ads prior to the boycotts 😬
And easily influenced people fall for it by collecting their brand on a cup... it's so disappointing. Support your fellow working class humans by boycotting Starbucks. They're a union-busting, greedy, massive corporation. There's other good coffee places.
The boycotts were never going to work. Like the Harry Potter game boycott. Starbucks has been known for using exploitation and child labor for decades and no one cares.
Jarvis talking about having sensory issues when he hears 2 people talking over each other- THANK YOU. I sit in a lot of calls for work and whenever someone talks over someone else, I physically CRINGE. I thought it was just because I was annoyed at it but I do think it’s additionally a sensory issue cause it makes me SO UNCOMFY. (I do have ADHD so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised)
i'm so glad you guys are being more vocal. please do NOT stop talking about p@le$stine & boycotting. please guys we need creators as big as ya'll to spread more awareness. we neeeeeeed more voices on this!!!!!!!
a few customers have also tried to just come in and do chores at a few stores i worked at. PLEASE DO NOT DO THAT. you have just become a liability, and the employee will end up in trouble for it. in retail, people could be trying to do that in order to steal, or even harass actual employees. in fast food, people can and will get hurt, and the store will be in chaos. from personal experience, definitely dont do it late night or when theres only one employee -- (a) now i cant lock up the store to use the bathroom or clean up; (b) i want to chill and now i have to clean too.
When I worked at a grocery store, kids would want to come in and "work" for us. Then I'd end up having to watch these children at the cash register because their parents were who knows where.
@flan6449 they don't understand ANY part of this conflict, you think they're gonna understand or care about the financial realities of American business related to the conflict?
@@emofurryboyfriendasmr i was boycotting starbucks as well, but as soon as I went to actually research starbucks stance, it turns out they clearly dont support Israel at all. So many people are just going along with the boycott cuz they hear about it, reminder to always do your own research!
Yes 🍉 Starbuck$$$ is a very insidious and greedy massive corporation. It's very lame bootlicker behavior to support Starbucks at all, let alone being such a fangirl that you'd buy and collect their plastic crap.
I just wanted to say that this podcast is a such a safe space for me. I’m a first year uni student and I think I have undiagnosed learning difficulties (adhd and dyslexia) but every time I get overwhelmed I find a lot of comfort in these videos. Thank you.
Just saw the part about 'fixing' the bathroom and got flashbacks to my first ever job, cleaning restrooms in a multiplex movie theatre. Though I was paid a small pittance for my labour there, much like the young lady in the video, I did not have any form of protective gear. It didn't even occur to me until my final day on the job (I was leaving for college) that I should have been wearing gloves the whole time, and they never mentioned nor offered any.
@@randomtinypotatocried Funny story about that job is that even though I told them when I took the job that I was only there for summer, and then gave them 2 weeks' notice in writing, my friend who stayed on there told me they were still scheduling me a month afterward. She also said that a few months after I left, they replaced the entire management team there due to gross incompetence. It truly is a wonder that anything works even a little bit.
as someone who spent most of their young adulthood working in a store like that, facing is the best part of the shift. being able to turn customers away like that is a fucking dream. she doesn't have to check either - of course she's having fun.
I liked checking people out best when I worked at Target, but your point still stands, it's about the fact that she just got to do whatever she enjoyed. If a customer was mean to her she could just leave.
Jordan and Jarvis (George?) speaking about movies has some of the most enjoyable sad boyz moments. I know Jordan wants to keep his channel on pause indefinitely, but if he suddenly started making video-essays or just rambled about movies on camera I would be all for it.
i love the mention of the starbucks boycott, but wanted to bring up that at least one philz location has also sent home employees for wearing pro palestine pins as of late december. 😢
@@SadBoyzPod the gilman street berkeley location according to the articles i’ve read on it. i only know of the statement of the shift lead who sent home the employees as stating that they didn’t want philz to be seen as a palestinian-owned company any longer, also claimed that it was a safety concern.
@@SadBoyzPod yeah of course. when i read it i actually thought of the pod first. i know it’s really tough with there being no ethical consumption under capitalism, and the actions of a shift lead doesn’t necessarily reflect the views of the current ceo either though, but with mention of the starbucks boycott it seemed important enough to share.
Happy to hear you guys mention that you are boycotting Starbucks, this is the first time I’ve seen any of the UA-camrs I watch say anything about Palestine in a video and it’s been really disappointing. Hope to hear more of that from u guys! Love u both
Yup, so long as you don't mind alienating 95% of your Jewish friends and viewers, pro-palestine stuff is a slam dunk for youtubers. Luckily most people including Jarvis and Jordan aren't worried about that
@@statrr being pro Palestine is NOT in any way shape or form antisemitism. There is a huge community of Jewish people speaking out against the gen0cide and 75 year occupation in Palestine, and rejecting Zionism as it goes against Jewish values. I’m not interested in arguing in these comments, but it’s important to point out that opposing a gen0cide should not be controversial. Also Jarvis and Jordan have always cared about the safety and well-being of their friends and viewers :)
the people that take multiple of an item that CLEARLY other people are there for are so lame. Like we know youre just gonna sell it... icky. also the way she said "I just want a video this is funny" as if she wasnt part of that tomfoolery
In my opinion Saltburn was more about love (obssesion) than class. Olliver doesn't want the prestigious life, at least not at first or authentically. He wants Felix, and, he is not in love with him, he WANTS him, although yeah, with the undertone of wanting to BE HIM. And so he lies to befriend him, he slithers his way around his family, but with him as the "final and ultimate prize". Once he realizes he can't have him, he ultimatelly kills him, and keeps consuming everything around him, kinda trying to desperately and aimlessly satisfy himself like he did with his grave. I think it gives the movie more sense, regarding its timeline as well, except for his lines at the end that, unlike them, "he knows how to work". That's actually the only thing that felt out of place to me.
I saw a good commentary that he’s an unreliable narrator, and him at the end stating he planned it all along was just more example of him trying to be something he is not. I totally agree about the theme being obsession and ownership. Which I think gives the extreme sex acts more meaning. He things sex is a way of owning people, and sexual acts is a method of connection, so he goes way overboard. I can see people being able to identify with that in a much much less extreme way.
I’m so glad you said that about the ending of Saltburn!!!!! It completely erases any meaning/message the film might have had because it’s not about the middle class anymore it’s just this one insane guy. The ambiguity was so interesting and I was so excited to have discussions with my friends about “do you think X was planned?” But… nevermind lol it just tells you exactly what happened with no room for interpretation
Jordan's point about queerness in the fall of the house of usher was really thought provoking, because all of Mike flanigans other work is so respectful of queerness; the difference is, the queer characters in hill house, bly manor, and midnight mass are all lesbians. it's a very interesting example of that unconscious bias against bisexuality
That girl working for "free" genuinely disturbs me. Like... the idea of providing your labor for free, to a multi-billion dollar corporation that SHOULD be able to pay its workers better is a genuinely offensive concept. And, her little line in that first video... "I'll be the best employee they never had" is an insanely condescending thing to say. It sounds like the words of a person who has not yet had to struggle for her survival. My original comment was a little more charitable to her... at least, until I saw that she basically had a brand sponsoring her to do this. Now, I've gone from "it's fucking weird, but her terrible choice of hobbies is her own" to "what an absolutely fucking horrific and dystopian thing that's allowed to exist". Pay your employees better. Pay your employees better. Pay your employees better. Pay your employees better. PAY YOUR EMPLOYEES BETTER!
Honestly the biggest thing with these “workwear” brands being made fashionable and trendy, is that it can lead to a noticeable decrease in quality because they’re trying to keep up with demand. I’ve personally seen it with Carhartt. My newer carhartt pants & hoodie are NOTICEABLY Different and thinner than the ones I only had to replace after 8 years…
When they were talking about the tiktokker that works at big retail places for free, it just made me think about how there are in fact lots of people out there who genuinely enjoy doing mindless labor like that (I am one of them, mindlessly making pizzas was one of my favorite jobs) what is not enjoyable is the fact that these kinds of jobs don’t pay anyone nearly enough to survive, so that’s the only reason no one wants to do them. If we lived in a world where we had universal basic income that covered living costs, a good amount of people would probably flock back to food service/retail jobs just to have something to do during the day because no matter what conservatives think, humans generally don’t like just sitting around doing absolutely nothing all day; if you do, it’s because you’re totally drained emotionally and/or physically
my brother works at a Starbucks inside a grocery store that’s not target and they’re not selling the cup there but he’s been incredibly annoyed by the amount of people asking about it and constantly calling the store about it
I found this podcast about a month ago and have been slowly going through different episodes, just whichever one popped up next, and honestly it helped me get through a particularly unique and difficult holiday season, so thank you both for all the work you've put into this and for being so genuine and open about so many different topics. Some of the episodes made me cry because I felt so seen and having this podcast to listen to really helped me get through these last few weeks. I wish you both the best and I hope you have a great 2024 :))
44:46 no shade to the transcriber, I'm sure they're working on a deadline, but "the haunting bit" turning into "the horny bit" is so fucking funny also thanks a ton for subtitles! i'm hard of hearing and this made the viewing experience so so much smoother, thank you!
37:05 as someone who was an asst manager at a place that sold food, all I can think about is if she’s rotating the food correctly so the foods that expire sooner are on the outside. Because if it’s not stocked properly the store can get in trouble and in turn the (underpaid) employees will get in trouble for something they didn’t even do. That’s literally all I can think about because no way she’s stocking these correctly and HAVING FUN!?
40:07 Jarvis’s reaction about goddman Stanley cups is how I was reacting internally when I was in a marketing meeting at my job and they were talking about Stanley’s success 🥴
While I'd never participate, I can at least semi-understand lining up starting at 3 am for a gaming console or something like that but all that ... for a damn cup?! I just do not understand. 😵 At first I thought it was about THE Stanley cup and was totally confused 🏑🏒
I 1,000 can relate to Jordan's constant movement and changing of positions. I do the exact same thing. Even when I'm alone in my office concentrating on a task, I am constantly moving. I have to get rip roaringly high so I cannot physically move my muscles to lay still.
i feel like anyone who mentions the kissing booth needs to know that it's based on a wattpad novel by a welsh teenager and that is probably a pretty decent example of why it is the way it is source: went to the same school as her
the "i stand with palestine" pfp on the target girl's comment section as if target doesn't sell israeli goods/starbucks products, have literal starbucks locations IN THEIR STORES, sodastream, PUMA, etc like come on man
To Jordan's comment about working in retail- I'm also a former retail worker and there are still times when I'll organize some shit in a store, it just depends on my mood and if I'm in a hurry or not. 😂 The first retail job I ever worked called it "recovery/recovering", so that just stuck in my mind and I'll forever call it that, even though different jobs called it different things. Anyways, solidarity to all my friends still doing that shit. If I could still physically stand for that long I'd be still in it too. ✊
i work at starbucks and omfg the stanley thing. they gave like three per store ish and it was a wee bit feral. just get an etsy knockoff or pay a facebook mom to customize your normal cup... or face the fact you've got problems and issues w fomo. also the new reusable cup thing in mobile/drive thru is so..... love love love it :pained face emoji: would maybe actually love it if i wasn't working under expectations and the stress of company performance standards and customers daily.
As a fellow hEDSer, we sit weird because of how our body needs to support our hypermobile joints. Jordan, I feel you about sitting weird, but just know that a whole ass community of EDS, newly dx'ed or not, are so glad to have you apart of our dazzle. If you want some validation, hEDStok and OT/PTs of hypermobile patients address this all the time 😊
I just started watching Sad Boyz like in November and this quickly became one of my favourite podcasts, I binge old episode when I have nothing else to listen to lol.
That girl working at target literally put up a cart that’s meant for online orders so that poor fulfillment employee was most definitely screwed because those orders are timed and clear out once the products are scanned.
Reminds me when Mr. Beast asked his fans to organize his rebranded chocolate bar stands at stores. And people did it. The world is great. The only reason that girl thought it was fun is because she was just organizing shelves which practically no employee does becauae they are to busy getting yelled at by management, dealing with customers, fulfilling online orders, cashing people out, restocking from inventory, price changing. Basically the crap that nobody likes doing.
Honestly, as someone from Liverpool, as soon as Oliver from Saltburn said which area he was from I was onto his game, it's a fairly middle class area and not typically associated with the background he was trying to paint for himself
Target girl giving out free gift cards is so fucked up because you just know those customers are going to expect it now and also tell other people about it and the target employees will have to deal with all that.
I HATE HOW SHE SAYS 'my customers' LIKE... ew ??? and... confusing, like they arnt 'yours' and.. your not really working there. its.. ugh its just not good
When I was a kid and my mom took me shopping to a boring clothing store, I would go and organize their jewelry/accessory racks to make the time go by faster. My mom had to explain that I was organizing rather than trying to steal or cause choas. I now realize this probably bothered so much store employees lmao... but I was only trying to help and be less bored

The last time I waited in a long line for a store opening was in 2020 when I stood outside my local grocery store for hours just to get toilet paper. I walked out with a 3 pack of paper towels and ordered a bidet.
Idk about them but when I worked retail (because I had to) stocking the shelves was the best part because it meant I didn’t have to get yelled at by strangers

Back in school, I used to love giving my time for others, but then the instructors kept giving me tasks I can't keep up with + drag along my classmates who said they can't give time + saying "well she can do it, why can't you?" & everything didn't seem enjoyable anymore :(

It does look so long
Posted 15 minutes ago, I'm 2 minutes in, and that was also one of my first thoughts haha
that girl "working" for free should take that energy to her local food shelf or something.

I'm sorry you're getting slammed. I started boycotting Starbucks after their anti-Union behavior and I haven't come back since.
What also makes me mad is i have a feeling there’s been israel supporters who started coming to starbucks just to be a little piece of shit and give them more money for their horrible views. Ive already seen posts online of people being like “i
I’m sorry you’re having to deal with that but THANK YOU for speaking up🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

same here, i live in a conservative area and my store is getting absolutely slammed. not to mention the new January promotions that include WEEKEND bogo days and 3 dollar grande thursdays! the job was difficult before but I just wish more people were actually boycotting in my area.
I gotta say idk if starbucks planned on releasing this during the boycotts or before but this collab definitely saved them big time. It’s a real shame
What boycott? I last gone to Starbucks 5 years ago and they’re not that big in my country so I’m a bit curious 😅
They support Israel so we've been boycotting them for Palestine same thing with McDonald's and a few other places@@elif6908
@@elif6908 a lot of people are boycotting starbucks because of their support of Israel. In order to support Palestine, people in the US are trying to boycott starbucks, but just like everything else in America, there are still plenty of people who still choose to go. They have a right to, don’t get me wrong.
@@piagebot2943just to add more info, it was the starbucks union that called for the boycott. some employees that were part of the union showed support for palestine, they got fired for it, and then starbucks is trying to sue their union because of it.
its crazy seeing how many people refuse to follow the boycot. they show off that they only follow it when its popular
(saw she got a brand deal of course...)
Also the coolest "cup" I have is a 1 L beaker with my name and graduation year etched on it. I used to work in the science stockroom at my college and it was a grad gift.
Also thank you very much for your support of Palestine.
That’s a good point! Animal shelters would love the help.
THIS
she's getting paid to advertise volunteering for massive corporations that can (yet still under)pay when real service supporting human rights and strengthening community is needed everywhere. these videos don't involve learning or teaching, and give the false impression that she knows what she's doing/is safe and helping/non-disruptive.
there is so much work that can be done to help our world. it's a meaningful and enriching challenge to find how our passions help guide us along the path!

She can’t reach the high shelves so she STANDS ON A CART! It’s insane! If she fell that store would be screwed. No one should encourage this behavior.
I've seen one where she starts "stocking" a shelf and she's not looking at the experation date or if it's actually supposed to be there because she wouldn't know. But also where does she get all that money
when she fucks up an employee needs to fix it, i understand like, pulling an item to the front after you took one or smth i do that but if she fucks up some poor 16 year old will get yelled at :/
@@sltslt24apparently she gets sponsorships so she’s probably making more than the actual employees which just adds another layer of discomfort
That's the first thing I thought of too! All the liability issues this lady could cause! It's dangerous for her and other people around her. I've been an assistant manager in a retail setting before... And I would be so quick to make this lady STOP what she is doing. So many potential bad things could happen... I'd probably tell her she can apply if she wants too haha!
y’all i work at a target okay. i pulled into the parking lot at 6:45 am (store opens at 8) and there were at least 50 people waiting outside the store, lawn chairs and blankets and all, even some with literal toddlers with them. so my manager tells me starbucks only had 35 cups in stock because surprise they don’t get 5000 of things in at once. boss goes outside to inform everyone there’s only 35 and it’s one per family, not per person. everyone is so upset they send the security guy outside.
i was very curious to see what happened so i went up to the front to observe when we opened and there was like 100 people in the starbucks line. and my friend that works up there said they were getting constant phone calls asking about the godforsaken cups.
anyways, i hate retail.
bless your soul omg. (also taking your whole family with you??? what the hell is wrong with people????
@@byeleavemealonethey probably wanna make a quick $1600 bucks or so 2x4 people ×200

i used to work overnight at a grocery store that had a liquor store inside of it, and there would be dozens of people lined up from midnight on (the liquor store didn't open until 9am) the day we got our liquor truck. they were waiting for an expensive rare bourbon that only sent out 2-3 bottles per seller per shipment. apparently there was a whole facebook group for tracking shipments.
once i found out most of them owned bars it made more sense to me, but it made my smoke breaks really annoying 😭
this just sounds like my personal hell. i'm so sorry. i worked at starbucks before pre-pandemic, it was a full store/drive thru, but honestly i've always thought that the tarbux workers have it 1000x worse. they seem to get even more understaffed and you already know there's constantly a line of shopping moms, teenage girls + kids in the line. at least with like a drive thru location you know things are gonna be stocked or ran a certain way because they want people coming in and out. i still had my share plenty of karens and stuff but NEVER anything i've seen on this scale with the stanley cups. also, i left right before tiktok got popular, so i think i got super lucky because people seem to always be pulling pranks or asking for "x" drink because of social media
29:20 fun fact, the term for this in libraries is edging, because you're pulling the spines of the books to the edge of the shelf. This is the term acnowledged by the Library of Congress. Had to hold back a giggle when I first learned that lol
That's so funny. My supervisors just put it all under "straightening" lol
Thanks, I hate this! I'm in library school and I guess my thesis now has to be on naming it something else!

why doesnt that girl just volunteer somewhere if she loves working for free so much. like somewhere where that would actually be very appreciated
As former Target team member, I recognized two of the vehicles as belonging to the fulfillment team. There's a high chance that girl unmade several online orders and caused a few people's orders to be late.
I made the exact same conclusion. Also, congrats on getting out.
Jordan talking about the inability to stop automatically organizing every shelf you see after working retail is so relatable lol
As an ex walmart employee i can whole heartedly tell everyone it is not fun. Dare i say traumatic at times because customers are usually horrible.

I’m a manager and the fact that she’s probably getting paid 3x the amount I am a month for one 30 second video is dystopian.
Jordan dropping that he's naming his kid "Goku Vegeta Adika" was under appreciated
"A moment of silence for dead air" is hilarious
Her stocking stuff from a cart drives me CRAZY cause what if that cart wasn't there to be stocked???? What if that food was expired or something?
Jarvis talking about having sensory issues when he hears 2 people talking over each other- THANK YOU. I sit in a lot of calls for work and whenever someone talks over someone else, I physically CRINGE. a few customers have also tried to just come in and do chores at a few stores i worked at.
Then I'd end up having to watch these children at the cash register because their parents were who knows where.
the fact theyre doing this is just proof that the boycotts ARE working. keep boycotting. 🇵🇸

I’d watch an hour long podcast of just Jordan sitting in silence looking mildly upset
I live for the rage Jarvis has at the realisation that the girl working for "free" is doing an ad
"My kid wont play football, too much bumping."
"My kid wont play football, too scared."

Honestly the biggest thing with these “workwear” brands being made fashionable and trendy, is that it can lead to a noticeable decrease in quality because they’re trying to keep up with demand. I’ve personally seen it with Carhartt. My newer carhartt pants & hoodie are NOTICEABLY Different and thinner than the ones I only had to replace after 8 years…

i’m a starbucks barista and we get like 5 calls a day about the stupid but pretty pink stanley cup and the red one too
man sad boyz just makes me feel happy ironically
When they were talking about the tiktokker that works at big retail places for free, it just made me think about how there are in fact lots of people out there who genuinely enjoy doing mindless labor like that (I am one of them, mindlessly making pizzas was one of my favorite jobs) what is not enjoyable is the fact that these kinds of jobs don’t pay anyone nearly enough to survive, so that’s the only reason no one wants to do them. If we lived in a world where we had universal basic income that covered living costs, a good amount of people would probably flock back to food service/retail jobs just to have something to do during the day because no matter what conservatives think, humans generally don’t like just sitting around doing absolutely nothing all day; if you do, it’s because you’re totally drained emotionally and/or physically
nasty customers are a different conversation all together obviously, I’m talking about the physical tasks involved with said service jobs
my brother works at a Starbucks inside a grocery store that’s not target and they’re not selling the cup there but he’s been incredibly annoyed by the amount of people asking about it and constantly calling the store about it

Failed rise and grind for 2024 here! Thank you boys for the sad yet somehow uplifting videos to help me through the days!
the "i stand with palestine" pfp on the target girl's comment section as if target doesn't sell israeli goods/starbucks products, have literal starbucks locations IN THEIR STORES, sodastream, PUMA, etc like come on man
To Jordan's comment about working in retail- I'm also a former retail worker and there are still times when I'll organize some shit in a store, it just depends on my mood and if I'm in a hurry or not.
Yesss boycott Starbucks 🍉 so happy to hear that you’re boycotting them too!
This might be the funniest episode ever. Please be unhinged and rambly more often
As a fellow hEDSer, we sit weird because of how our body needs to support our hypermobile joints. Jordan, I feel you about sitting weird, but just know that a whole ass community of EDS, newly dx'ed or not, are so glad to have you apart of our dazzle. If you want some validation, hEDStok and OT/PTs of hypermobile patients address this all the time 😊
It's such a hard and weird thing to have to explain
I just started watching Sad Boyz like in November and this quickly became one of my favourite podcasts, I binge old episode when I have nothing else to listen to lol.
Jordan in the thumbnail let's go
stanley cup collectors r the very worst ppl imagine collecting something specifically made for you to only need one of
That girl working at target literally put up a cart that’s meant for online orders so that poor fulfillment employee was most definitely screwed because those orders are timed and clear out once the products are scanned.
As someone who likely has hEDS i also sit in absolutely deranged ways im pretty sure the Jordan Sitting is an EDS thing LOL solidarity
Oh yeah for sure I have hEDS to and I do the same thing
Feeling embarrassed to send starbucks presents on POGO is so relatable, I was not expecting other people to understand 😂
They shot Felix like a goddamn perfume commercial.
My dad used to listen to this song with me as we took late night drives - it’s got a special place in my heart. Thank you FoxSzn and 3Drinks
Target girl giving out free gift cards is so fucked up because you just know those customers are going to expect it now and also tell other people about it and the target employees will have to deal with all that.
I HATE HOW SHE SAYS 'my customers' LIKE... ew ??? and... confusing, like they arnt 'yours' and.. your not really working there. its.. ugh its just not good
i love jarvis’ little voices
jordan you should do movie reviews or sumn on your channel your insight's super interesting to listen to
Yes Jordan get into that film analysis!!!!!
The thing i have a problem with is that it's giving Walmart free labour
When I was a kid and my mom took me shopping to a boring clothing store, I would go and organize their jewelry/accessory racks to make the time go by faster. My mom had to explain that I was organizing rather than trying to steal or cause choas. I now realize this probably bothered so much store employees lmao... but I was only trying to help and be less bored
55:30 hearing this as someone who was raised on my family’s ranch, surrounded by people who have worn carhartt forever because it’s WORKwear… yeah i’m losing my mind 😃
She had her bare hands on the Target bathroom floor.
She. Had. Her. Bare. Hands. On. The. Target. Bathroom. Floor.
The last time I waited in a long line for a store opening was in 2020 when I stood outside my local grocery store for hours just to get toilet paper. I walked out with a 3 pack of paper towels and ordered a bidet.
Idk about them but when I worked retail (because I had to) stocking the shelves was the best part because it meant I didn’t have to get yelled at by strangers
that girl working for free also used to do "staying at all you can eat places as long as possible and would just loiter/"eat" for 8 hours until she'd get kicked out
