First off, this is an informative and good learning video. I appreciate this effort from your end. We are transitioning from SP 2010 to SP 2013 and your video helps a lot. In the video you stated that when you rename the list, we cannot modify the url name but delete and recreate the list (considering that it was created initially without a space). I work in SharePoint 2010 as a Site Collection Admin, and there seems to be a backdoor entry to do that. We can open the site contents in explorer (i.e., open with explorer) option and under lists folder, all the lists we create will be in the format of folders, just rename the folder to the desired name. Note: Although for coding purposes, I wouldn't recommend the same, that's one of the reason for me to use "_" in reference to while giving a name for a list or library in SharePoint and then changing the appearance name by Title and Description.
A great tutorial and at the perfect speed IMHO. Those who need to slow it down should know how to use Pause and how to go back if they miss something. I can't say that SharePoint is pretty to look at (though I'm sure you have a later tutorial adressing that). Thanks.
Thank you for your feedback! I'm glad you found the tutorial helpful and at a good pace. I agree that pausing and going back can be useful for those who need more time to understand the content. In terms of the visual aspect of SharePoint, I do address customization options in later tutorials, so stay tuned for that. Thank you for watching!
Key features to know about SharePoint lists, there's a lot you can do OOB before you start custom developing. This demo was done with SharePoint in the cloud which is really cool. Lesson 02: SharePoint 2013 Basics, Creating Lists: ua-cam.com/video/B-pG7k2vVK8/v-deo.html
Thank you for your comment! Yes, there are a lot of great features and options you can utilize with SharePoint lists out-of-the-box. I'm glad you found the demo helpful. If you have any specific questions or need more details on any of the features, feel free to ask and I'll be happy to help!
Yes, there is a way to prevent people from editing calendar entries they did not make. You can modify the item level permissions for the calendar list by going to the list settings, selecting "Advanced settings", and then choosing "Only allow users to see and edit their own items" under the "Item-level Permissions" section. This will restrict users to only be able to edit and delete the calendar entries that they have created.
Slowing down the speed of the video to .75 or .50 can definitely help viewers who thought it was too fast to catch up and understand the content better. Additionally, the settings icon can be used to adjust the playback speed as per the viewer's preference.
Thanks for the great videos. I'm updating 2007 knowledge and the pace is fine for me.I'm getting the same result as Dr. Strange in that members not in the target audience SharePoint group are able to see the announcement that should be filtered. A quick bing search led me to this..."Each audience must be compiled before content can be targeted to that audience. Compilation identifies membership in an audience by crawling the data most recently reported from the identity management system. In SharePoint Online, audience compilation is configured for you and occurs at regular pre-determined intervals by the Office 365 directory." Some sources say that the period of compilation can be as much as a week and one claimed it's generally done on a Friday or Saturday. So since it's Friday I'll see if it works when I come back on Monday.
Thanks for the heads-up. I did not get a chance to fully test out the timing with my test accounts. This is very interesting...please let us know your findings.
Greetings Deshon - This was an excellent tutorial!!! I am in the process of creating a list that includes the title and photo of each team member - there are about 80. I have used the WebPart for Contact Detail, which actually accommodates this request, but for only one team member. How do I create a list that pulls from the company directory so that it populates this information for all members? Let me know if you can help. Thank you in advance. Kind regards.
Thanks. Just have to let you know technology was misspelled. :) Other than that, another great tutorial. Just enough information without it being too much.
+Noah Ruiz hey how's it going. I am working on custom web parts with the new SharePoint developer framework...I think this is the future in SharePoint customizations, especially if you are working in the cloud...which version are you on currently?
I can't share the excitement about this video because for me it was too vague, instead of giving us step by step instructions, like go there, click here, observe this, you need this for this purpose...then choose this or go there you simply were fast moving from one page to another, clicking everywhere and letting us guess what has just happened. I've completed all 3 videos, but I still don't have much clue about SP2013 and I need to search for other tutorials. I'm a beginner and never used it before, but maybe people who're adjusting from SP2010 to SP2013 find these lessons more useful. For the 4th lesson I'd recommend to not only show us your knowledge about the subject, but also try to teach, give the info step by step to prevent misunderstanding and getting lost. Thank you
Thank you for the feedback. The pace is intentional, since it is a video, if there is a need to revisit and area then the video controls enables the srcubbing. You make a very good point about the details. I try to fit an hour of information in under 30 mins. So it may seem brisk. I would highly recommend Lynda.com for the level of detail you are seeking. They do a good job with soup to nuts training on many subjects and SharePoint is one of them. Also you may want to invest in some form of classroom training (in person or online) where there is Q and A. You're right, my trainings are not for everyone, but rather for those whom are familiar and worked with SharePoint at some level.

Do you have any videos to where the requestor can request something. And approvals can add to the information and approve/disapprove?
Thanks for watching, I will try to create something similar to this. This is a very common ask...vid coming soon.
@@DeShonClark thank you so much

@@DeShonClark oh you are definitely awesome thank you so much
Question: is there anyway on Calendar entries to STOP people from being able to edit entries they did NOT make?

@@DeShonClark I am new to SharePoint. Thank you for sharing this video.
Thanks! Awesome tutorial!

is there a link to have SP on my system, I'm a beginner :)
I recommend using the cloud version. Go here and sign-up for the developer program (towards the bottom of the page) dev.office.com/devprogram
Been a while on here but do you have any tutorials on how to customize home page, web parts, such as page viewer?
+Noah Ruiz hey how's it going. I am working on custom web parts with the new SharePoint developer framework...I think this is the future in SharePoint customizations, especially if you are working in the cloud...which version are you on currently?
Office 365 Sharepoint 2016. I am always thinking future as i am a futurist Check us out at Skynetwest.com
+Noah Ruiz very cool service...which camera do you use for your aerial shots?
Multiple cameras for different stuff but mostly the Sony Alpha 7R

Not really helpful for a beginner...the rate in which you are going and the rapid clicks just makes it abit difficult to keep up
+MICHAEL OSADEBE did you give up? How's it going?
My thoughts exactly. This is freaking tutorial, slow the hell down.
I think it is pretty normal to pause tutorials while you are trying to do what they are doing. I thought it was great.
The very bad of yours vieos is very fast in the options selecttion.
Yikes! Way too fast! Can't follow your clicks,
+Martha Mihaly sorry...was trying to fit a ton of info in less than 30 mins
