Been slow with posting the other lessons as I have been very busy with project work. SharePoint 2013 and SharePoint Online are taking the industry like a storm. I've learned so much about the dos and don't when using SharePoint 2013 in real-world projects and very excited to share my findings, tips, tricks, and work-arounds. As a developer and architect, the new client-side object model pattern and SharePoint apps have very steep learning curves, but I think I've perfected a pattern to help with the transition (hint: SharePoint with angularJS is the perfect combo). With all that said...my plan is to post a new lesson every other week...stay tuned.
We finally just switched to this at work. So, as the suddenly confused Admin for the site libraries, these videos are a great help. Thanks man - keep it up!
+julio garcia this is awesome that you are leveraging SharePoint in that way! I'm glad you found some value from the videos...let me know if you have questions or run into issues
agreed his voice overpowers the usic but i like a little bit of soft music like he plays here :) Thanks for uploading these cool vids DeShon! I hope to learn Sharepoint very well to get up in my career
I know it's an older video but even now much of the functionality is the same. I thought it was a great high-level intro to SharePoint, good job DeShon!
Sherif, yes you can create your MS account right on the sign-up page. You only need SharePoint Online account (not full Office 365), the Plan 1 is only $3/mo. and will work for this module and the next few to come. I've added the link in the video description above
Great job! Thank you for the teaching. BTW, that would be great if you could show it from very beginning, such as, show us a very simple example of SP from begin to end, so as to let us know the entire view of SP, especially for brand new learners.Thank you so much.
+Alex Morgan , we are working on a new set of videos that will do just that. One video walks you thru the complete setup of your o365 SharePoint online tenant and how to configure your first site collection for your Intranet. We are waiting on the latest feature release from Microsoft before we can make it available...the new features are a bit different, and requires a slightly different approach, but are much easier for the end-user. I will keep you posted.
You're welcome! I'm glad to hear that the videos are helpful and easy to follow along with. If you have any more questions or need further clarification on anything, feel free to let me know.
This is an extremely helpful video, but the music in the background sounds like Nintendo music or something. For people who have trouble focusing this is highly distracting
Thanks for your feedback! I apologize if the background music was distracting. I'll definitely keep that in mind for future videos and try to choose something less distracting. Thanks again for watching and I'm glad you found the video helpful!
Here is what I needed to start up with SharePoint 365 from nothing to a quite good idea about a possible CRM for our start-up in less than 3 hours testing around. Thanks so much for this video. It's great. As a German I additionally learned English in the second Video. Never heard "Meet at around 5ish" before :-)
Thank you! Quick question... are sub sites limited in number and if so is this a licensing matter? Secondly. . Are the sites accessible by 3rd parties outside of my local domain. For example a customer...Can they access our tech departments documents for support? Your response would be much appreciated.
You're welcome! I'm glad you found the video helpful. Lesson 2 will be coming soon, so stay tuned. If you have any questions or need further clarification, feel free to let me know.
Thanks for the video!! I just have a question. I am trying to set the look of the page, by choosing a theme and an image according to my company. Everything works perfectly, but once I have chosen everything and click accept, the main bar (there where Office 365 logo is) does not change color it always stays Purple no mater what theme I select. Do you know why this happens, and how can I change it?
Sarah, here is an article on changing the theme for the Nav bar...this affects all of o365, where the theme change I display in the video only affects that one site collection on the SharePoint side of 365 support.office.com/en-us/article/Customize-the-Office-365-theme-for-your-organization-8275da91-7a48-4591-94ab-3123a3f79530
Thank you for your feedback! I'm glad you found the video helpful. I apologize if the background music was not to your liking. I appreciate your comment and I hope you continue to find value in our videos. Thank you!
we are upgrading to 2013 sharepoint - as an organization - on October 2017 - based on that, should I assume that I will have this functionality - or will I have to down load the management software. IOW - will the actual platform give me all of this editing functionality - or do I need to install the designer - like 2010? thanks :)
Thank you so much for your feedback! I'm glad to hear that you found the tutorial easy to follow and that it gave you hope for the challenges ahead. If you have any specific questions or need more clarification on any topics, feel free to reach out to me. Good luck with your SharePoint journey!
Hey, thanks so much for watching the video! I'm glad you found it helpful. SharePoint can definitely be a bit overwhelming at first, so I wanted to provide a clear introduction. Let me know if you have any specific questions or if there's anything else I can help you with.
hi today I'm introduced to SharePoint I want to what is it. people are saying that it has updated then this video is not going to helpful for me? please help me out.
Thank you for the video. I am completely new to SharePoint and have one basic question. When I open my SharePoint, I don't see the top banner that includes "Newsfeed, SkyDrive, Sites, Projects .. etc" Is this banner specific to your site? or should I be able to see this as well?
Sandy G yes, this was how the page looked at the time of the video in 2013, but his has changed significantly today. Are you using SharePoint in the cloud?
If I understand you correctly, you want to create new project sites with a set up "canned" tasks? Yes, you can do this as of now. You would need to create a project site...added the canned tasks, then save the site as a template. Save as a template is under the site settings page.
+Sandy G just checking in on you...hows it going. Are you guys moving along with projects and tasks within SharePoint...have you checked out MS Teams yet?
best of luck to you....just jump in with both feet. Practice Practice Practice....also, here is the updated stuff...this video is almost 4 years old, and 20% outdated. ua-cam.com/video/KeSzsyFTjRo/v-deo.html
Yes you need a SharePoint server. You can get one at cloudshare.com for 99/mo or play with a trial until it expires. Another way, is to get an o365 account I would recommend Enterprise 3 level. No need for SharePoint Designer right now, everything will be in the browser.
is there a way i can locally create an server/webserver, so i just can get started with this program so i know if it is something that is for me or not?
+lolsa123 I would highly recommend test driving the SharePoint cloud version in o365. Here is a link to sign up for a one year trial. dev.office.com/devprogram Let me know how it goes.
hi i'm working in a company we have a folder called Bank that all users in local network copy their files on that till other users can use it. i wanna change it to sharepoint .i have installed sharepoint and i don't know how to do this?whould you help me please?
Mr Clark I have knowledge of windows server administration. I want to know learn SharePoint. Can you please tell me prerequisites for learning SharePoint. Please help me out with my question.
Farukh, I am glad to hear your are jumping over on the SharePoint side. I think there are a lot of exciting things to come in SharePoint and well as the Windows 10 server stack. As you may know, SharePoint is in huge demand by the clients and I don't see that slowing down at all. I get tons of emails and requests for consulting gigs and job openings every week. I assume you want to get into a SharePoint admin role, if that is the case I highly recommend this plural sight course with getting started www.pluralsight.com/courses/installing-sharepoint2013-powershell . Hope this helps....let me know if there is anything else. DeShon
+suresh godugu there are several online resources. Are you looking into Power User, Developers, or Admin role. For the Developer and Admin roles I would suggest Pluralsight for now. For Power User role, there is a lot of great content right here on UA-cam
+DeShon Clark Hai dear i have interest in Admin role already we are handling Share Point 2013 in my construction Company but i have small idea about this plz give me basic rules .
Yes, you can create project sites in SharePoint and save different projects in different sites. Each project site will have its own unique content and can be accessed and managed separately from other project sites.
Thank you for your interest in our SharePoint classes! We currently do not provide a simulator or virtual environment for hands-on practice. However, our classes include step-by-step instructions and examples that you can follow along with using your own SharePoint site or a demo site. If you have any specific questions or need further assistance, please let us know!
+Brandon Myles have you found a playground environment yet? For $5/mo you can sign-up for the Plan 1 account...cancel anytime. products.office.com/en-us/SharePoint/compare-sharepoint-plans
Hi can you help me, I handle 3 types of projects and I would like to separate it and handle in different places, how can I do that? Thank you!!! Nice Day

In the search box, type "Newsfeed". 4. Click on the "Newsfeed" app icon that appears in the search results. 5. Click "Trust it" to add the Newsfeed app to your site. 6. Once the app is installed, you should see the Newsfeed option in the top bar of your site. Please note that the availability of apps may vary depending on the version of SharePoint you are using.
Thank you! I'm glad you found the tutorial helpful. If you have any specific questions or need more guidance on any of the steps, feel free to ask and I'll be happy to help. Keep watching for more tutorials and videos on SharePoint 2013.
What the hell are the annoying background sounds as you talk? I wanted to listen but found it exhausting trying to hear you over those frustrating background sounds.
I apologize for the background sounds in the video. Unfortunately, I don't have control over the audio in the video. I will certainly pass on your feedback to the video producer. In the meantime, I can provide you with a written summary of the video if that would be helpful for you. Let me know if there's anything else I can assist you with.
Yes, you can add the Newsfeed feature to your homepage in SharePoint 2013. You can do this by editing the page and adding the Newsfeed web part to the desired section of the page. This will allow you to have a newsfeed on your homepage where you and other users can post and see updates.
love the tutorial. Though could you get ride of the sound track in the back ground as i thought there was something wrong with the video. It's is also very annoying
Thank you for your feedback! I apologize for the annoyance caused by the background music. I will take your suggestion into consideration for future videos and make sure to reduce or remove the soundtrack to provide a better viewing experience.
I am working on a curriculum. I am not sure about the strategy yet... I am hoping to offer online classes so I can reach more people...but I love the in-person classes because I can really work one-on-one with participants. I'll give it more thought and post my decision when I'm ready
Thank you! I'm glad you found the video helpful for beginners. If you have any other questions or topics you'd like me to cover, feel free to let me know.
Hi there! Thank you for your interest in the class. I'm glad to hear that you want to become one of my students. To proceed, all you need to do is go to spclassroom.com and sign up for the class. Once you've registered, you will gain access to all the course materials and can start learning right away. If you have any more questions or need further assistance, please let me know. Do you teach class?
I am working on a curriculum. I am not sure about the strategy yet... I am hoping to offer online classes so I can reach more people...but I love the in-person classes because I can really work one-on-one with participants. I'll give it more thought and post my decision when I'm ready
Very helpful, thank you!
