  • The Purim story reminds us that the real danger is when overt meets latent antisemitism.
And in a culture steeped in antisemitism, literally no one is safe. The bulwark against authoritarianism is a multiracial, multifaith coalition, and that coalition is broken today, and risks being fractured beyond repair. We must sound the alarm.

A remarkably erudite presentation that reinforces the need to recognize the dangers both from the left and the right

It is an extraordinary drama, perhaps an amen moment, when the ideological dream of a people, personified by their great mentors, meets with their harshest personal dread. It evokes a certain awe to observe the shattering sinking heart experience in its fullness the betrayal of a beloved dogma: That the left in the United States of America has been exposed as not our greatest lover, but from its inception, merely waiting in the wings, to reveal its hideous nocturnal latency, one that is not out in the open but is tacit. As astonishing as this may be, it is mythological and even perhaps archetypal. This is as massive an awakening to the slumbering doe-eyed zealot as anti-semitism's actuality. To some I say, not all. The obviousness of Anglo authoritarianism in the US is of familiar consequence to the Jewish Id. But Feldman was right, this ancient subterranean behemoth is now the provenance of the left, and to some of us always has been.

But what about the Israeli mass torture and slaughter of the Arab people in Gaza? Is that not a matter of concern, too?

She preaches weekly on that as well. She has prioritized addressing the suffering of the Palestinian people throughout her career; this is just one drash out of many. We also regularly have Palestinian activists speak to us at her behest. This is a congregation that is concerned with and active about the valid issues you bring up here.

So much of the current outrage against the actions of the State of Israel is dismissed as “anti-Semitism.” But you don’t have to hate Jews to be appalled beyond expression at the current unspeakable actions of the Zionist government in Israel, nor does opposition to Israeli crime mean you sanction, justify, or celebrate the brutal, unconscionable, horrific crime of the Hamas massacre of Israelis in October.
But to focus on the issue of anti-Semitism when the slaughter and torture of the Arabs in Gaza and the West Bank (by the Israeli state, which usurps the mantle of Judaism) is on-going and beyond disgraceful, and to blame anti-Semitism for revulsion at Israel and its defenders or apologists validates the accusation that Israelis regard Arabs as less than human, less worthy than themselves. And it suggests a refusal on the part of apologists for and defenders of the Israeli massacres to see how one thing leads to another. There are good arguments to show that the Zionist project from the beginning, certainly when it gained real clout in the late 1940s, treated the Arabs with utter and brutal contempt. Surprise, surprise, the Arabs did not turn the other cheek.
The Arabs under Israeli domination have been called "animals" and treated like dogs. It ought to be no wonder or surprise when they become ferocious, bite, and tear you to pieces.
First things first: stop the Israeli killing, torture, starving, maiming, and dehumanization of the people of Gaza and the West Bank. All the on-going confusion, pain, misery, and reciprocal violence and violation will not be cleared away and overcome by waging war by any of the victims of the consequences of historical misarrangements.

please tell me what that has to do at all, in this actual moment, with regard to the lives of the people in gaza who are being massacred, murdered, tortured, and made destitute. these are people like me and you. forget ideology and policy for a moment. think of your own child or parent or someone other dear to you. @@cecilhayden585
