    I'm sitting on a Simplicity taking lunchbreak while watching this, lifted the bonnet/hood, Briggs 724cc twin, opened the air filter cover, there they are, access panels like you say! 👍👍

    Don’t have my riding mower yet. Still clearing for now. But won’t be much longer and thanks for the heads up on the access panels. You were right. Never knew about that. Might have saved me some damage later down the road. 👍

      You too?! I also get mouse nests in my pickup and camper. Heard moth balls keep them away

    After replacing my old Kohler head gaskets from mouse nest air clogs I figured out I could check air flow without disassembly by feeling for air flowing out of the shroud exits

    Yep! This was to try and help mitigate the dreaded slipped valve guide problems on the redesigned Briggs Intek's and a lot of other manufacturers have adopted this easy access port. Now to get homeowners to ACTUALLY USE THEM! lol Cheers Buddy! Zip~

    Ive seen cleanout ports like that on some older Kohler Command engines. Too bad its not a standard.

    thats a good tip! I have that engine! Do that this morning.
    Another question, I have the old out of production kawi fc401v that has a helacious kickback on the rope pully starter. I bought it used and it works great, still fires right up. the starter however blows out and they are 150$ for a new assembly each time, the inside spring coil breaks away from the plastic housing never to be properly reset....I searched high and low for a new flywheel with a ring gear to install an electric starter.
    are the components on the old FC engines compatible across the model range? can I buy a flywheel w ring gear from a FC420 v or 540v and install onto my 401? was also considering just buying a full used engine with an electric starter already set up and dropping it in.so any input on the bolt patterns that you might know of would be appreciated
    thanks for posting. the valve compression video was good tutorial

    Nice tip.
    But it begs the question why were the cooling fins covered up with a plastic shroud in the first place?

    • @THEMOWERMEDIC1
      @THEMOWERMEDIC1  2 роки тому

      Because the engine would overheat without it

    • @bw1841
      @bw1841 2 роки тому

      The shroud contains and directs the cooling air provided by the fan on the flywheel, and it flows forcefully over the head and cylinder fins.

    I’ll have to look for those on my mower. If the yard ever dries out, that is. Lol
