It broke my heart when Gamzee went to the Dark Side, because he was always so nice and sweet on his friends. When Aranea was controlling him during the Game Over Arc and he was freed for a moment when Terezi was beating him up, do you think that was the Old Gamzee talking? He spoke with his old quirk and it just seemed like he was...well....normal in that moment. And then he wasn't.....
I've been thinking on that for a while now myself. There's basically two options: that he went back to his medicated state where he wasn't really aware of his surroundings but also not controlled by his destined connection to LE, or that he decided to get one last manipulative dig in to disarm his opponent. The latter is what ends up happening, so... That said, is "Old Gamzee" anything more than a drug-induced illusion? A guy trying to self-medicate away something he seems to consider an inevitable destiny when sober? Is the true Gamzee the one who's too zonked to function or the one without morals or compassion who knows his destiny is to be part of a god of death and destruction? Is this conflict the meaning behind all his duality/split personality imagery? Is there one answer, or can it be both? I don't have a clue and if oD does it's probably in another video.
If there is one thing true in Homestuck is that you can't trust anything that Hussie says. To me Gamzee makes much more sense than he seems to, and this video is a great analysis on his character. Keep it up
I always had the idea that Gamzee was literally mad because he's not just a character of Homestuck, but a viewer as well. He knows it's a story, and of course, stories can be flawed in their continuity sometimes. That's all fine, but...this story happens to be Gamzee's actual reality. He always believed reality made sense, and his clown god religion gave him a reason to think so. (It's like a jab at the audience that takes everything way too seriously and gets hung up on the details. You would expect a story to make sense because, while it's being told, it IS sort of your reality. Breaking your suspension of disbelief will take you out of the story/reality and make you really frustrated, won't it?) When the truth is revealed, it makes him mad that he'd been swallowing a lie this whole time, but also, now that he can see the strings puppeteering his reality thanks to influences like Doc Scratch and Lil Cal, he knows how to pull them with the same kind of power that Hussie himself has. That's why he does things that make no goddamn sense all the time, because it truly doesn't, and it doesn't matter anymore 'cause it never really mattered to begin with, because this isn't reality. That's why he's so devoted to Lord English, because (like you said) he provides a script that can be followed and make everything make sense again, and therefore, real/true. That's all Gamzee wants, even if he has to destroy literally everything to get it. You are, of course, going way more in depth than I ever did with my theory, as well as several of the people in these comments wit h theirs, proving that there is just so much to unpack from nearly all angles about Gamzee spanning the entire fucking comic that it feels like just as much of a herculean task to explain it all as it is just to read the whole thing. And he's only ONE character. Goddamnit Hussie.
Just like you the Reader wish to find and read The End of the comic as that is generally the Goal of reading a story the whole way through, so to do characters conduct themselves in a manner which facilitates this desire. Gamzee isn't devoted to LE because he's seeking a "script" it's because his very nature is to be the reality-defying causation against improbability meant to keep an impossible story going. Gamzee serves events in spacetime because someone has to be the oddball who passes an impossible test for no obvious reason
Gamzee is indeed a very complex character that grew from what was just a simple stoner friend into someone who turned the tides for the journeys of his friends and the narrative itself. It actually does make a lot of sense once you start connecting the dots and not just assume Gamzee is mostly doing this randomly.
Celestial Vocalist Idk why most people settle for hussie telling us that gamzee doesnt make any sense when he has not just been known to lie, but does so often and many times unnintentionally. Hussies avatar in homestuck has been time and time again shown to be very falable and by no means either omnipotent or omnisient, so taking his word for anything, like how his only interpherance in the story would be the yellow yard, has a coin toss's chance of being true at best.
Two things, Gamzee became the embodiment of this saying: The truth hurts. Also as a passive bard player that has some idea of the metaphysical nature of homestuck do you think he diliberatly cause rage in the readers mudding up our understanding of the story or well passively causing our rage to not see the truth having our Hero of Hope to dig through this rage for others understanding
"Also as a passive bard player that has some idea of the metaphysical nature of homestuck do you think he diliberatly cause rage in the readers mudding up our understanding of the story" Well damn, looks like there's some prophets in the crowd. Suffice it to say, you nailed a good chunk of my viewpoint. But that's all I'll say for right now--you can wait for Part 2 to see me argue the specifics. In the meantime, feel free to speculate here--I'd be curious to see what you guys come up with.
I gotta admit, I don't always feel like I absorbed everything in Homestuck analysis, myself. It's entirely possible he made this particular argument and I didn't notice at the time, but when I started thinking about it, it felt like news to me. And I definitely think my presentation of the idea is unique, so I'm excited to see what people think of it.
Here's the video I was talking about: ua-cam.com/video/4H7m23gkAe4/v-deo.html Might not say all that you will in the next video, but it likely says at least some.
i dont think its possible to argue objectively about whether gamzee was in control of his actions post-lil cal. hussie has deliberately muddied those waters through his manipulation by 3 different people and by his personality shifting so suddenly in response to particular stimuli (not to mention his allegorical relation to frigglish). his time in the veil without sopor, pre-cal, is the only time he is not in some way under some influence. gamzee is consistently characterized as having a lack of autonomy and personally it makes him such a tragic character, who should to some extent be analysed with sympathy.
Which is by and large a perfect analogy for the nature of a webcomic character who by nature is completely at the control and whim of their creator and artist. No character is ever truly in control of their actions and it's only rarely when any semblance of personal freedom is gained by them, a fictional being.
@@grimmcorvid5713 to be fair, the entirety of A2 Trollish culture is like that, while IRL, B1, and possibly B2 Earth's culture(s) aren't. Sure, by human standards, that shit is pretty inexcusable, but by the alien standards of their alien culture, it's pretty standard. It's a matter of perspective, tbh.
well the god tier outfit is actually the canon outfit for bard except his is a imitation perhaps he saw god tier cronus who is a bard and made a rage counterpart accordingly
i think gamzee's and lil cal's relashionship is like a master and a servant, gamzee since going full on phsyco lost all his liberty and became a "puppet" of cal and in consequence all the souls inside. a puppet that is used for one purpose. bringing Lord English lo life. and only serving him.
Blaze Hensen But you forget, or do not know, that at least half of gamzee's soul lies within lil cal, doc scratch, and lord english. Why would he use himself as a puppet? Or why would he allow himself to be controlled?
Xenath Cytrin maybe because he knows what happens when he gets used? he becomes a messiah, he gets to know the truth, his god etc. maybe he even gets puppetered (sorry if i spelled it wrong) by himself to serve LE
I find the idea that the part of Gamzee in LE has any agency with which to choose rather doubtful, personally. The story goes out of its way to tell us Cherubs, by nature, are able to devour souls and absorb their traits/strengths into their identities. It seems pretty clear to me Caliborn is mostly in charge of LE, and Caliborn predominating over his brainmates and explains why pretty handily. I'm inclined to see Gamzee, Equius, and AR's "identities" as basically puppets LE can use as he wills, as a result. Which also explains why AR and Equius' personalities would even do anything to help LE's aims, since their last act as an individual was *against* Caliborn, a heroic sacrifice for the benefit of their friends.
Lord English is definitely a composite personality and his actions seem mostly based on Caliborn's desires. But as you point out yourself, Gamzee sees his own future self, his own actual, factual, empirically proven destiny within Cal and LE as well. It's pretty clear from his dialog, specifically TC: they were always both me. :o) TC: AND ALSO MOTHERFUCKING ME. Do: that he identifies himself with Cal/Scratch/LE/that whole soul cluster in general, and that that's why he's so manipulable by it. It's another one of those loops in Homestuck - Gamzee does heinous things and abases himself to insane extents because his "future self", puppet of Caliborn or not, told him to do so to get him to that point, where he is a real and true god who always has been and always will be. Plus whatever world-as-illusion meta-realization you're putting in the next video.
Oh, definitely. We're in complete agreement here. I'm simply unsure that the presence of Gamzee's soul/awareness/being indicates the presence of Gamzee's will, or more pressingly, Arquius'. It straight up does not make sense that Arquis would go from willful self-sacrifice for his friends to stop Caliborn to gleefully enjoying abusing trollkind as Scratch. But Caliborn would override any resistance their souls managed to put up. So while the others' souls are there, it's ultimately Caliborn as LE calling all the shots. As far as being acting agents able to influence reality of their own volition goes, Gamzee, AR and Equius are effectively dead. Or existing in some kind of nightmarish unable-to-control-your-own-mind zombie existence.
Before i talk about Cal, I'd like to quickly go over my idea of the role Gamzee has in the story. Gamzee is (to me, anyway) a collective subconscious for the text as a whole. He's always behind the scenes, manipulating things in ways that make sense thematically, but not necessarily plot wise. He's almost an embodiment of a dream in that way (specifically the freudian dream). the best example for this is the hammer of zillyhoo. It makes sense as to WHY Gamzee has it: its clownish, its cherubic, and its a silly item used for violent purposes. The thing is, we have no idea HOW he gets it. They are related through concept not through anything tangible. I think this is an example of Jung's synchronicities. Vis a vis Lil Cal, I don't think the puppet actually commanded Gamzee in anyway. it reads to me as more of an awakening. Gamzee was never one to shy away from expressing violent wishes (see page 2123 for a lot of that) but he never actually acts on those wishes until he is lifted from his sopor haze and meets cal. Not only that, but cal is literally part Gamzee. Though he might be influenced by the spirits inside the doll, in reality Gamzee has always had the potential to commit the acts of violence he did, it just took a motivator to unleash that from him. I really enjoyed this analysis! I hadn't even put the dots together about Caliborn's drawings relating to Gamzee's actions during 5.2. Great stuff!
Also, I can see it being discussed in the comments, but I'd just like to reiterate that Textalks' video on Gamzee is probably the best video I've seen on the subject. It's prolific in understanding the rage aspect and especially how Gamzee uses it. And as a side note, I wonder how much Hussie actually knows about juggalo culture. As a fan (its bad music, i know, but i cant help myself) of some of their music, I know that Shaggy and J really go in depth about their religious beliefs in their lyrics, and there's a lot of overlap between the highblood cult and juggalos' idea of the Dark Carnival. I doubt it could be a coincidence. A view of Gamzee through the lens of ICP would be very interesting.
Really interesting perspective! Bravo. While I think there are other influences that can tell us more about Gamzee than ICP *right now* (god i am excited for this next video), I do think you're quite likely right. There's a couple people in the Discord working on exploring Juggalo lore, and seeing what if any of it matches Gamzee/The Purplebloods we've been meeting in Hiveswap. Results have been promising so far. Juggalo lore is, tragically, not a feature of this specific video series. But I won't be surprised if I later put out a Part 4 to this or whatnot, as things come into sharper focus.
Mechafinch Personal I just realized I don’t want to imagine ever attempting to read Homestuck in a way that’s in-depth enough to research for a video like this.
My thoughts on Gamzee before this video: -His name is Rockso. -He's a rock and roll clown. -He does cocaine. -I'm afraid that's all we know. I'm not sure how much new information I learned *exactly*, but thank you for this video as it definitely clarified a lot of things that I'd either missed our hadn't been able to sort through during the short and very dense period where we actually have a look inside Gamzee's head. I'm going to keep this video on hand as a kind of collation of our knowledge on what we loosely refer to as his psyche when discussing him from now on.
Thanks. No really thanks. Idk I like these videos a lot because I feel like I’m learning more about Homestuck as a comic instead of just learning about the fandom. Obviously I’ve read the comic, and enjoyed it thoroughly, but it’s been quite some time since I looked at it in depth. Your videos allow me to do so with ease! I hope some day Homestuck is regarded as a classic like Shakespeare, because when I watch your videos I get the urge to take notes on Homestuck and it’s characters and events. I know much of your content is speculation but it still feels right to try to keep track of it all, like I’m being taught in class. Thank you.
Yes it's a homestuck fic But it's not gonna be as accurate as homestuck itself and it will have an entirely new cast of characters (with some old characters returning) And unlike the original story it's gonna be...very different
(TW) Gamzee is my favorite character and it makes me so sad that the epilouges were just like: "remember how we gave him all this story and motives? WERE GONNA THROW THAT OUT THE WINDOW AND MAKE HIM A CHILD MOLESTER!!!!"
Wait... so you're saying that Gamzee was aware that Homestuck is just a story? That really explains how he's able to manipulate the world and other characters so easily. Kind of reminds of something tho- JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE JUST GAMZEE
Yeah, if you arent having one of those about every two weeks you are doing something wrong. In most states you can ask your doctor to write you a prescription for crisis supliments if you arent getting your recommended monthly dosage.
Me: *learns that Gamzee is the reason why all the Beta kids are a little messed up* *frustrated* *learns that Gamzee is responsible for breaking John's self-esteem* *fucking infuriated*
I'd like to think that since only half of gamzee got succed into cal, there's a half gamzee soul out there in the dream bubbles, free of the violence of his other half.
SKRUB here, well done video as always. I really like how you noticed that gamzee attacked the female characters during horrorstuck in the same way that Caliborn dismissed them. I wonder if there is a frame where caliborn hurts a horse, signifying the culling of equius? Textalks last theory video was on how Rages pure Form was the Contrivance found within stories, and that really matches with what you've said here, as well as what's in the story. If Rage is Contrivance, I have said Hope is the Suspension of Disbelief, and that perfectly describes gamzee at the beginning of their session. He believes in miracles, that everything is great, that he will make a beautiful world, he is destroying his own Rage. Then, Dave shows him the joke that his religion becomes in the world he makes, and so he has rage. What pottery.
This would have been the perfect time to talk about the personalities of the destroyer classes! Princes and Bards destroy their aspect, and with it, but it runs deeper than that. You have in the past, suggested that the class descriptions can also be applied to the behavior of the characters themselves; Princes and Bards are unique in this, becoming partially unbound from their aspects by their class, and pushed towards their opposing aspect, personality-wise, though they retain some influences of their true aspect, to some degree. They destroy their aspect in themselves and their lives, if they aren't careful. This is present in all Princes to varying degrees of severity. First, consider the earliest example of a Prince in Homestuck: Bro Strider, Pre-scratch. Cold, physically and emotionally distant, psychologically and physically abusive, with the most warped idea of parenting Hussie could depict without pushing the limits of decency; Pre-Scratch Dirk is deeply disturbed and probably breaking a shit load of laws he doesn't care about, and for all who can see, is one SOULLESS bastard, doing his damnedest to crush Dave's under his heel. Truly, a Prince of Heart. Eridan is a genocidal warmonger, barely tolerated by all of his friends, raised under the idea that he is superior to basically all of them. Arrogant and narcissistic, he is extremely out of touch with even those people who he's supposed to care about. Hateful, violent, vindictive, and filled with an unquenchable RAGE, he's about as far from "Hopeful" as anyone could describe. Even after coming to understand hope, to some degree, he could never see it as more than a means to an end, using the light of the angels to destroy, with devastating results, wearing the disdainful scowl to his last breath. Before embracing Rage wholeheartedly, Gamzee was about as far from anger as is possible. Spacey, constantly high, with strong faith in his interpretation of his religion. Too blazed to hurt anyone or anything, or to think of how he'd been abandoned by his Lusus, FOOLING himself into believing that he'd come back, eventually. He kept himself chained to his Sopor, his salvation, to keep the truth of his lonely, empty life at bay. He never embraced hope, so much as tried to be hopeful; but in the end, that delirious phantasm was BOUND to BR8K. And post-scratch Dirk is the best example of all; textbook heartbreaker. Smoking hot, only living dude on planet earth? Gay. X Roxy. Claimed the only other eligible bachelor in their friend group? Blue girl crushed on him. X Roxy, X Jane. And then, relationship problems tear them apart; X Roxy, X Jane, X Jake, STRIKEOUT!!! But seriously, with his cold, calculated personality, rather conniving attitude, extreme technology aptitude so complete he actually duplicated his own brain and turned it into a supercomputer, he comes off much more MINDFUL than SOULFUL. But this ignores his character development, in which we see him overcoming his destructive tendencies to embrace his aspect, just as Gamzee did, to a much more positively productive degree. I could discuss The Grand Highblood, Dualscar, Kurloz, and Cronus, but there's much less characterization for all of them, so there's much more guesswork and analysis of small bits of information that would go into it.
Also, Gamzee raised Caliborn, so it is him through influencing Caliborn. Caliborn becomes the God of Clown, Lord English. His essence is also in Doc Scratch, who has read Homestuck, and, therefore, set up Gamzee's birth with his "omniscience".
Dave pitches it as a theory in-comic and I believe that's part of it, although it's worth noting that the entirely un-mentally-influenced Dirk Strider does a lot of the same insane bullshit that Bro does and is just more self-aware and pulls back from it before he hurts his friends as badly as Bro hurt Dave.
I usually don't want to just make my points on later parts of the comic without being able to put in the time and effort to back them up, buuut coming to Dirk's defense is basically what started the descent into madness that is this youtube channel, and I'd say a good half of my *written* Homestuck analysis work heavily concerns Dirk in particular, so I should at least say: My personal view of Dirk is considerably more favorable than this. Dirk has a lot of the same violent/controlling *impulses* Bro and AR display, but Dirk himself actively resists those impulses for his entire narrative, choosing instead to devote himself to a stoic emulation of his brother and service to his friends. Dirk screws up in that endeavor, but his failure mostly manifests as him passively letting his friend's varying levels of ignorant cruelty go by unchallenged and bottling up his emotions. I'm inclined to suggest you're conflating Dirk's behavior with Lil Hal/AR, who does absolutely commit a lot of the same behavior. But then, consider what I just said. Dirk reaches for his better angels by leaning on his image of his Bro, but he reaches those heights only through the affection and camaraderie his friends provide him with. AR is a version of Dirk frozen at 13, ramped into cyber-omnsicience, cut off from physical existence, and set irrevocably apart from his group of friends. Including Jake, who Dirk already had feelings for by 13. So he does imitate Bro to some extent, but there's a tragic tinge to the immature violence AR proves capable of. Because he doesn't really have the emotional support necessary to deal with his emotions over his state of existence, and unlike Caliborn, he didn't have a *choice* about his state of existence. Evil in Homestuck generally has this connotation of twisted immaturity masquerading as self-control/adulthood, but it matters to me that to varying degrees, AR, Gamzee and Equius are presented as not having *chosen* that immaturity, in contrast to Caliborn, who willfully imposes it on himself by killing Calliope. I'd suggest checking out my Medium account or Patreon page if you'd like to find my sources backing up this view, but I'm sure it'll surface in video form as soon as I'm physically able to get us there. Hope this wall of text was interesting regardless.
Well, I'll admit I was playing fast and loose a bit there since Bro and Dirk and AR weren't the topic of this particular video, but I'm kind of glad I did because we all got a free bonus helping of nice character analysis and a pattern I'd noticed with a number of different characters who have prominent "alternate selves" - two characters, or three major ones in the case of Dirk, can be "the same guy" in identity (Heart), but become very different through choices and circumstances (Mind). We see the same divergence between the other Beta Guardians and the Alpha Kids, between Dave and Davesprite, between (Vriska) and Vriska, Meenah and the Condesce, etc. etc. There's definitely a theme going on here about how choice affects you just as much as nature does, and Bro, Dirk, and AR's highly divergent choices absolutely differentiate them as characters. That's what I meant by calling Dirk more self-aware and choosing to resist his natural impulses that could harm his friends. AR doesn't do that to the same extent, but it's understandable due to circumstances that AR explains at length, and at least he has Dirk as a shoulder angel in the same way that Dirk has AR as a shoulder devil, so to speak. All Bro had was the fully primed Lil Cal and yeah that's an obvious problem, but perhaps not as much as the fact that he didn't have anyone *else*. Man I hope he comes up in Hauntswitch somehow so we can see what was actually going on with him.
Yup yup yup yup! That central theme concerning the division of Nature and Choice is basically the central conflict of the Heart/Mind dichotomy. Compare **Dirk's** perspective on his relationship to his alt-selves: DIRK: All splinters of me are basically me, no matter how much I want to resist that truth. DIRK: Or pretend they aren't reflecting my own qualities back at me. DIRK: I bear a certain responsibility for all of them. To **Terezi's** view on the exact same subject: TEREZI: WH4T 1F 1T TURNS OUT 1'M NOT 4CTU4LLY TH4T... TEREZI: GOOD? VRISKA: 8ut you already proved that you are! VRISKA: Another version of you 8asically saved us all, remem8er? TEREZI: 1 KNOW, BUT TEREZI: TH4T W4S 4 D1FF3R3NT M3 TEREZI: WHO W3NT THROUGH SOM3 TH1NGS 1 N3V3R W3NT THROUGH, 4ND PROB4BLY F1GUR3D OUT HOW TO B3 4W3SOM3 4ND H3RO1C 4LONG TH3 W4Y TEREZI: 1 N3V3R D1D 4NY OF TH4T, 4ND 1 C3RT41NLY DON'T F33L 4W3SOM3 4ND H3RO1C Y3T Dirk condemns himself by conflating himself with his splinters. Terezi condemns herself by setting herself apart from hers. Both interpret that perspective in the most negative way possible as a reference for their own inner worth and value as people. Basically, Dirk and Terezi should really get drunk together or something. Also if I hear people talking about Dirk's "parallels" with Vriska when his parallels with Terezi are right there I'm going to lose my mind. Also we probably will see Bro in Hauntswitch to some extent, I think. Just a feeling, though.
Yep. Entirely. A lot of different people have similar stories but Dirk abd Terezi are the most direct reflections of the theme. Vriska is also on thjs spectrum by the end and has a couple of *other* comparisons to Dirk (a life built around emulating a famous Ancestor for Alpha Dirk and her relationship with Tavros for AR and Bro), but unsurprisingly the major Heart player and major Mind player give us the two contrasting viewpoints on this specific subject.
Gamzee and Lil Cal's relationship makes me think of the horcruxes in Harry Potter. I don't think I have anything of value to say on it, honestly, it's obviously unhealthy, even if Gamzee did create him and welcome his influence with open arms.
Wait, stupid question: How come the purple bloods can murder violet bloods? There is violet blood on Grand HIghblood's walls but violet bloods are higher on the hemospectrum, so that should technically prohibit the clowns from murdering them.
I thought, from the title, that this would be a Gamzee Apologist-type video. I never realized that people thought that Gamzee was written strangely, or that they thought he didn't make sense. Well, thanks for educating me!
i like how in his early version, he fits the bard of rage concept's more passive version. he allows his own rage to be destroyed through his addiction.
You say that he was able to use his relationship with Terezi to take down her gaurd 7:18 But I always saw that as him breaking through the madness for once, his quirk changes, and even his eyes go back to their normal yellow color for a moment. It’s also seen that when Kanaya cuts him in half, one side looks distraught and sad. He’s still in there somewhere, at least that’s what I think.
“This is most likely why Gamzee’s complaining about Vriska in the post retcon time line.” Me: wait, were you saying something? Sorry, I was distracted by what looks like to be Crotuna in the back, can you repeat that?
If you ever do more theorizing type videos, I’d like to see something on if kids who’ve played a sburb session can play again, and how it would go with the prior knowledge and god tier abilities they have
youre videos are so insightful. even when youre taking information i know, and concepts i thought i had already worked out in this comic, you have such a way of presenting it that makes it new. every video has a perspective that i couldnt even conceive
I tip my hat to you honestly. This is extremely impressive. I had always felt bad for Gamzee even though his less desirable qualities scared me. In essence, however, it shows us all as humans the depths of our own depravity. The fact that Hussie explores this and so much more in Homestuck is revolutionary and why I like it so much (and oddly enough I'm Protestant but not 'religious', I'm more spiritual).
4:59 that kinda tracks though, as, if doomed timelines are ones which cannot meet the terms for their own creation, they're ones which cannot produce lord english.
Maybe Gamzee fell in love with Tavros in the first place because he subconsciously wanted to escape the horrible revelation of his tyrannical gods. After all it did take a hero of Breath to defy the Alpha timeline.
Utena runs 2020 brings revolution to the world. im maybe adoring your channel more and more with each video i watch. You hit way too many of my favorite subjects. thank you so much for sharing!!
In our material world, an attachment to concrete and demonstrable truth is a good thing, but in Paradox Space where thought shapes the world, it'll just blind you to possibility and constrain your reality.
I always thought Bro/Dirk, Dave, Terezi, and Spades Slick (all those who looked directly into Cal’s eyes and fought Lord Jack in Collide and were immune to its effects) were never controlled or influenced by Cal because they never _fully_ looked into his eyes. Dave and Dirk have sunglasses, Slick has a robotic eye, and Terezi is, well, Terezi.
You can also see that Eridan was visited by gamzee in his past, specifically you can see the shadow of cod tier gamzee when eridan is sitting down to make his plans for a land dweller genocide, long before this version of gamzee is around. Implying when he got Aradia's time travel gear, he went and directly incited most of the long running conflicts of the trolls and beta kids, and those he didn't cause, he incited later on (like with terezi).
Personally, I like to think that Gamze and Bro are both under mind-controll, whereas Union Jack is outright possesed. Bro is consistantly awful because life under Cal is all he's ever known, but Gamzee is able to get brief moments to himself due to his preexisting concious. Karkat's pale advances calm him down, and later in Game Over the intense pain he's in from Terezi's attacks break him free (though for only a moment.) "Terezi, please stop, you're motherf*cking hurting me" is the only time post-Cal that Gamzee talks LiKe ThIs. It was the real him trying to reach out one last time.
I never thought Gamzee made no sense, (or that he was a bad character,) more so that he was working on a logic that only he understood. (Also I hated him, and wanted him to die)
I feel like it should be pointed out that Tavros's death was what provided Gamzee with his motivation. By going along with LE's wishes, the HorrorTerror's where created from the combination of souls trapped in Lil'Cal, allowing for the birth of the dream bubbles, and thereby allowing Tavros to live on in some form. It wasn't that Gamzee was following the will of his god; Gamzee was taking the course of action that led both to the creation of his god, and the creation of his paradise so as to bring back Tavros and everyone else back from the dead.
The souls in Lil Cal do not create the horrorterrors. Lil Cal is a manifestation of LE's consciousness, not the Horrorterrors', and the two have substantially different agendas. The Horrorterrors, like Skaia, seem to be a universal constant built into Sburb.
I mean, I guess we never did get proof on the nature of the unknowable beings, but with several hints throughout the comic and both means and motive for the various participants, it makes the story make that much more sense, and that much more interesting, so its useful to keep in mind I find.
Well he did always say that he and HE was the messiah all along. That line makes a lot more sense in hindsight, everyone just thought that was gamzee going insane at the time, but it was because he learned the truth of LE.
I loved this. Not many people go this far in depth with Gamzee's character and it often makes me sad how much he is looked over. I do though, feel a quite a bit of sympathy for him, a clowns gotta do what a clowns gotta do. Of course, I have my own little theories as well, but everything you've said ties together quite well and even mixes with my own theory about gamzee sorta causing everything- its goes pretty far in.
The two mirthful messiahs: Lord English and Doc Scratch. Gamzee is part of both of them through Lil Cal. So he's really not lying when he says he's both his religion's messiahs.
this shit is blowing my mind, I made the stupid mistake of skipping a large chunk of homestuck (mainly all of Caliborn's acts) because I didnt see the useless rambling as any part of the story but the number one rule of homestuck is "pay attention to every detail no matter how bullshit or zany" I curse myself for not reading through every bit I bet I would have connected the dots sooner.
Gamzee Makara is Kanye West "Homestuck isn't real" EXACTLY!!! None of the characters in it exist nor have they ever done so beyond the scope of them being comics and ideas in the heads of it's readers! Everyone always forgets this fact when talking about a comic which started of by violating the 4th wall itself by having reader-submitted prompts, but every concern we've ever had about a character or their personal state has been under the assumption that they were ever in danger in the first place!
[S] Video Watcher: Mental Breakdown.
NOT
v
That's all there is to say on the matter.
I don't have a clue and if oD does it's probably in another video.
;__; Then I guess we wait....
O.O !
can i please know the numberr of the page to that?
nvm i found it
If there is one thing true in Homestuck is that you can't trust anything that Hussie says.
@Micah Ingel Lmao if you’ve seen his instagram lately he definitely is
dear sweet precious DEAR nepeta
Slugfin
Nah, its dear, sweet, precious Deer Nepeta.
Well I guess she stole some hearts
When tavros got kicked by tavros I was literally shaking and crying
Gamzee is indeed a very complex character that grew from what was just a simple stoner friend into someone who turned the tides for the journeys of his friends and the narrative itself. It actually does make a lot of sense once you start connecting the dots and not just assume Gamzee is mostly doing this randomly.
Celestial Vocalist
Idk why most people settle for hussie telling us that gamzee doesnt make any sense when he has not just been known to lie, but does so often and many times unnintentionally.
Hussies avatar in homestuck has been time and time again shown to be very falable and by no means either omnipotent or omnisient, so taking his word for anything, like how his only interpherance in the story would be the yellow yard, has a coin toss's chance of being true at best.
Yes, that is true. Hussie does love to screw with us.
(Also, the video currently has 413 likes :0 )
Two things, Gamzee became the embodiment of this saying: The truth hurts. Also as a passive bard player that has some idea of the metaphysical nature of homestuck do you think he diliberatly cause rage in the readers mudding up our understanding of the story or well passively causing our rage to not see the truth having our Hero of Hope to dig through this rage for others understanding
"Also as a passive bard player that has some idea of the metaphysical
nature of homestuck do you think he diliberatly cause rage in the
readers mudding up our understanding of the story"
Well damn, looks like there's some prophets in the crowd. Suffice it to say, you nailed a good chunk of my viewpoint.
But that's all I'll say for right now--you can wait for Part 2 to see me argue the specifics. In the meantime, feel free to speculate here--I'd be curious to see what you guys come up with.
Tex Talks outright said this in one of his videos, so this idea has been around for a good while.
Here's the video I was talking about: ua-cam.com/video/4H7m23gkAe4/v-deo.html
Might not say all that you will in the next video, but it likely says at least some.
The truth come out, does Gamzee Makara is sane?
I don't know, does he?
What is sanity at all?
Thank you do much
i dont think its possible to argue objectively about whether gamzee was in control of his actions post-lil cal. hussie has deliberately muddied those waters through his manipulation by 3 different people and by his personality shifting so suddenly in response to particular stimuli (not to mention his allegorical relation to frigglish). his time in the veil without sopor, pre-cal, is the only time he is not in some way under some influence. gamzee is consistently characterized as having a lack of autonomy and personally it makes him such a tragic character, who should to some extent be analysed with sympathy.
Well, as far as homestuck is concerned, whether you do something of your own volition or not you are still responsible for your own actions.
All I can say is "This"
Which is by and large a perfect analogy for the nature of a webcomic character who by nature is completely at the control and whim of their creator and artist. No character is ever truly in control of their actions and it's only rarely when any semblance of personal freedom is gained by them, a fictional being.
i.... im not sure what happened
I was primed to go apeshit if you said anything bad about Nepeta.
How could I besmirch the name of my own patron troll? Unthinkable blasphemy.
nepeta episode when 🤔
Now what kind of monster would you have to be to say anything bad about that cutie pie!
WHAT'S-HER-FACE IS NOTHING BUT AN AMOROUS FEMALE
No u.
Im hoping gamzee shows up in hiveswap. Collects his got tier outfit from the other high bloods in the next acts
well the god tier outfit is actually the canon outfit for bard except his is a imitation perhaps he saw god tier cronus who is a bard and made a rage counterpart accordingly
i think gamzee's and lil cal's relashionship is like a master and a servant, gamzee since going full on phsyco lost all his liberty and became a "puppet" of cal and in consequence all the souls inside.
a puppet that is used for one purpose.
bringing Lord English lo life. and only serving him.
Blaze Hensen
But you forget, or do not know, that at least half of gamzee's soul lies within lil cal, doc scratch, and lord english.
It's pretty clear from his dialog, specifically
TC: they were always both me. :o)
TC: AND ALSO MOTHERFUCKING ME. Do:
that he identifies himself with Cal/Scratch/LE/that whole soul cluster in general, and that that's why he's so manipulable by it.
How many times have you read homestuck, and how many times was it super in depth
Mechafinch Personal I just realized I don’t want to imagine ever attempting to read Homestuck in a way that’s in-depth enough to research for a video like this.
My thoughts on Gamzee before this video:
-His name is Rockso.
Happy to help! Providing that kind of collation service is exactly my intent with this series.
Thank you.
I was in the middle of Making a fanfic jeez man
*not a real spy* keep writing it :U with this knowledge you now have, you can make it deeper
Yes it's a homestuck fic
But it's not gonna be as accurate as homestuck itself and it will have an entirely new cast of characters (with some old characters returning)
And unlike the original story it's gonna be...very different
Maybe I'll make updates as optimistic uploads vids and post them there
Part 1 out now my.w.tt/di4NciTLJM
Hopefully link works
(TW) Gamzee is my favorite character and it makes me so sad that the epilouges were just like: "remember how we gave him all this story and motives? WERE GONNA THROW THAT OUT THE WINDOW AND MAKE HIM A CHILD MOLESTER!!!!"
a WHAT
TheY DID NOT
4:50 Vriska killed Tavros, so that's yet another case of her being instrumental in the creation of a main Villain
Wait... so you're saying that Gamzee was aware that Homestuck is just a story? That really explains how he's able to manipulate the world and other characters so easily. Kind of reminds of something tho-

Yeah, if you arent having one of those about every two weeks you are doing something wrong.
In most states you can ask your doctor to write you a prescription for crisis supliments if you arent getting your recommended monthly dosage.
i took the extended zodiac test and i got true capricorn, prospit dreamer, and rage aspect
AM I DEAD YET??
Yes, you are
I forgot how stupidly complicated le's creation was
Oof I had chills this entire video.....
:D!!!!!! A multi part video???? On my favourite piece of garbage!!!!!! I'M SO HAPPY!!!!!!!
Gamzee: *believes in a weird insaneclownposse inspired cult*
Tiktok: _I'm about to end this man's whole career_
Me: *learns that Gamzee is the reason why all the Beta kids are a little messed up*
*frustrated*
*learns that Gamzee is responsible for breaking John's self-esteem*
*fucking infuriated*
He also created Bec Noir and the Red Miles. Yay......
he also is the reason lil cal was in the beta session so.... yay....
So you're telling me that if Vriska didn't off Tavros Gamzee wouldn't be listening to lil cal?
Oh my God...
Doc Scratch DID play her like a fiddle!
Gamzee Makara was possessed by little cal the moment he stared into the eyes of the Juju
yknow, its been years since i read homestuck, and its occurring to me just... how much i really, really don't understand, like, _at all_
I'd like to think that since only half of gamzee got succed into cal, there's a half gamzee soul out there in the dream bubbles, free of the violence of his other half.
This is true...!
Welp, I just got sucked back into this fandom.
Gamzee has always been one of my favorite characters. This video makes me love him more. This is very thought through well. Nice job.
Moral of the story: If a rage player on your team goes through something upseting, starts doing math, then comes to some "truth", skip town.
This is really good stuff.
"It was always, and also, me."
It all makes sense now.
Also, Gamzee raised Caliborn, so it is him through influencing Caliborn. Caliborn becomes the God of Clown, Lord English. His essence is also in Doc Scratch, who has read Homestuck, and, therefore, set up Gamzee's birth with his "omniscience".
OH. SO THAT'S WHY BRO WAS LIKE THAT.
I usually don't want to just make my points on later parts of the comic without being able to put in the time and effort to back them up, buuut coming to Dirk's defense is basically what started the descent into madness that is this youtube channel, and I'd say a good half of my *written* Homestuck analysis work heavily concerns Dirk in particular, so I should at least say:
My personal view of Dirk is considerably more favorable than this.
Compare **Dirk's** perspective on his relationship to his alt-selves:
DIRK: All splinters of me are basically me, no matter how much I want to resist that truth.
DIRK: Or pretend they aren't reflecting my own qualities back at me.
DIRK: I bear a certain responsibility for all of them.
To **Terezi's** view on the exact same subject:
TEREZI: WH4T 1F 1T TURNS OUT 1'M NOT 4CTU4LLY TH4T...
TEREZI: GOOD?
VRISKA: 8ut you already proved that you are!
VRISKA: Another version of you 8asically saved us all, remem8er?
TEREZI: 1 KNOW, BUT
TEREZI: TH4T W4S 4 D1FF3R3NT M3
TEREZI: WHO W3NT THROUGH SOM3 TH1NGS 1 N3V3R W3NT THROUGH, 4ND PROB4BLY F1GUR3D OUT HOW TO B3 4W3SOM3 4ND H3RO1C 4LONG TH3 W4Y
TEREZI: 1 N3V3R D1D 4NY OF TH4T, 4ND 1 C3RT41NLY DON'T F33L 4W3SOM3 4ND H3RO1C Y3T
Dirk condemns himself by conflating himself with his splinters.
I came here as SOON as I saw the notification! Cant wait to see more my good sir, keep on creating!

"I came as fast as I could"
Gamzee and Lil Cal's relationship makes me think of the horcruxes in Harry Potter. I don't think I have anything of value to say on it, honestly, it's obviously unhealthy, even if Gamzee did create him and welcome his influence with open arms.
U HAVE PICKED MY INTEREST.
angel armas
Dang, I didnt know that mining figuirative constructs was something that could be done, must have been a pretty good pick.
Xenath Cytrin beat me to the sass comment
Wait, stupid question: How come the purple bloods can murder violet bloods? There is violet blood on Grand HIghblood's walls but violet bloods are higher on the hemospectrum, so that should technically prohibit the clowns from murdering them.
Clowns are Doc Scratch's minion, so I think they get exception.
>Has sudden revelation<

You say that he was able to use his relationship with Terezi to take down her gaurd 7:18
But I always saw that as him breaking through the madness for once, his quirk changes, and even his eyes go back to their normal yellow color for a moment. It’s also seen that when Kanaya cuts him in half, one side looks distraught and sad. He’s still in there somewhere, at least that’s what I think.

Hi!!!, i'm New in this chanell and i speak in spanish. Can I ask is you can put spanish subtitules in your videos.
Well, thats all, bye and thanks :oD
“This is most likely why Gamzee’s complaining about Vriska in the post retcon time line.”
Me: wait, were you saying something? Sorry, I was distracted by what looks like to be Crotuna in the back, can you repeat that?
thank you for this now i must watch a bunch of sadstuck gamzee videos to seal the deal
If you ever do more theorizing type videos, I’d like to see something on if kids who’ve played a sburb session can play again, and how it would go with the prior knowledge and god tier abilities they have
Alex P
They would just
1:Make a death session and live there
2:Atack derse king with their god tiers powers on the first hour
3:Anything else, really

I almost forgot how confusing homestuck is thanks dude
youre videos are so insightful. even when youre taking information i know, and concepts i thought i had already worked out in this comic, you have such a way of presenting it that makes it new. every video has a perspective that i couldnt even conceive
Man, this is probably the most recent Homestuck thing I've seen in so long. Good video btw.
amazing video, as usual
Maybe Gamzee fell in love with Tavros in the first place because he subconsciously wanted to escape the horrible revelation of his tyrannical gods. After all it did take a hero of Breath to defy the Alpha timeline.
gamzees charater makes me cry, i love him, hussie... why?

Goddammit, I missed this content
“God exists, God is evil, and I am God.”
It’s very similar to the realisation Dirk comes to when confronted with his Ultimate Self in Pesterquest.
The fact this was posted three days ago,, I just cried, fuck my adrenaline is surging from seeing this post
Now that's a good cliffhanger. Well-played.
Aside from my brain fucking MELTING, i love your Utena icon

im maybe adoring your channel more and more with each video i watch. You hit way too many of my favorite subjects. thank you so much for sharing!!
Im hooked in for the next part! Cant wait!!
Gamzee has always been a character that I didn't understand so thank you for uploading this video as I now understand him much better.
Well I'll be damned
The pesterog quote at 2:08 goes with the scene at 5:55. (Or really 3 pages past that in the story - 3447 to be exact).
Gamzee deserved better.
@@grimmcorvid5713 gamsee mybaby💜🥺
4:50 so in a way, vriska fucked everything up AGAIN in a way that is also coincidentally necessary for the timeline
I never thought Gamzee made no sense, (or that he was a bad character,) more so that he was working on a logic that only he understood. (Also I hated him, and wanted him to die)
You make some great researches, I love your videos, please do keep them coming!
Calling the signs with inspiration from dionysis *monogamous* is uniquely funny lol
This video is about to blow up, I saw it in my recommended.
I love all the clusterfuck that truly is Gamzee and Lord English with all my soul
Well he did always say that he and HE was the messiah all along.
That line makes a lot more sense in hindsight, everyone just thought that was gamzee going insane at the time, but it was because he learned the truth of LE.
GamTav, the precious holy ship that should have been
Bro! I warned you about those theorists!
I warned you!

Well, with all of the fourth wall breaking someone was BOUND to take a peek beyond it.
Pun not intended oop
Holy shit, that's a great video! Nice job!
These videos make me excited about Homestuck again
The two mirthful messiahs: Lord English and Doc Scratch.
Gamzee is part of both of them through Lil Cal. So he's really not lying when he says he's both his religion's messiahs.
I hope something is mentioned about the similarities between how Bro raised Dave and how Scratch raised Alternia, both under the influence of lil cal
Good video as always. Good work, dude
Glad to be learning a bit more about my fellow rage player.
this shit is blowing my mind, I made the stupid mistake of skipping a large chunk of homestuck (mainly all of Caliborn's acts) because I didnt see the useless rambling as any part of the story but the number one rule of homestuck is "pay attention to every detail no matter how bullshit or zany" I curse myself for not reading through every bit I bet I would have connected the dots sooner.
Gamzee Makara is Kanye West
"Homestuck isn't real" EXACTLY!!!
