I have a 6 ton unit and had to actually add an easy start kit to the AC unit to knock down the startup amps from 161 down to 35 amps. After doing that the generator runs the AC easily.
@@frankleisner5948 Thanks for that update, Frank! I bought the same genny, adding a transfer switch to my house. My AC is a 5 ton unit, going to add a soft start kit to it also. Curious, which kit did you install? Seems like the 2 most common are Hyper Engineering, and Micro Air.
@@danm400 I used the Micro Air ASY-386-X72 that did the trick for me. This is the bigest one they make. I did it myself.... very easy install and I'm not an electrician or ac guy.
I own 2 of these generators. I was so happy when I received my first one in 2022. It really came in useful in 2023 when our East Texas spring storms hit. We were living in our RV while remodeling our home. We were out of power for 4 days and our 90lb propane tank would last 24 hrs. The next time the power went out it would not run. I replaced the regulator, no luck, had to run it on gas. I bought another one when they went on sale at Amazon to use for the house. The box was damaged and I probably should have sent it back. I unpacked it and the only damage I could see was the air filter housing was bent up. I called customer service and they sent me a new one. This unit was purchased in October 2023. We had 3 hrs on this one, connected to our 300 gal propane tank. It ran fine for the 3 hrs. and then shut down.I called customer service again and was told it was probably the CO sensor. So I replaced it and no luck. I've checked the oil level numerous times and replaced the regulator on this one too. No luck. We have been having power outages numerous times this year and so I decided to just go with gas again. It still won't stay running. Trust me, I have used the other one enough, and read the owners manual many times over. I know all the settings for either propane or gas use. I'm so frustrated at this point as we have more storms headed our way. We can always go to the RV as long as I have plenty of gas on hand. 5 gallons will last 8 hrs. I did a lot of research before settling on the Duromax, which has 4.5 stars, but now I have big time buyers remorse. So disappointed, one will run only on gas, and the other newer one won't run on anything.
u should have a ups for your security cameras and wifi and a few very low power lights cus the change over is manual and if the power goes out at night having a bit of light helps a lot. and home security and internet should always be on a ups that can atleast run the camera and dvr for 2hrs on battery.
Greetings, just found your channel, appreciate your walkthrough! I am about to make a move on this one because it seems to be as close as I can get to a decent THD number (this unit supposedly is 10-12%) without spending twice the money for an inverter gen, plus I want to run natural gas at some point and very few of the inverter gens will put out the 6740 watts minimum I need to cover as a worst case scenario. In any case my question to you is have you noticed any non-inverter-induced damage to electronics, things with ac motors that need to surge up like fridges, electric furnace motors, etc? Your security system and tv and such things seem to work without delta, that is great. I have been agonizing over just letting the chips fall where they may over this THD issue that gets a lot of warnings, but other than a microwave that seemed to labor a bit I haven't noticed taking any hits the last few times we used a Champion 9375, although it was running on gasoline so no worries about wattage shortage. Thanks again, would love to hear an update after this time passed!
Have you had any problems when applying heavy loads to it? I have the Duro Star 13000EH, but every time I turn on the AC unit or just a burner in the stove will start ramping up and down, and it won't stop until I turn it off.
Very cool! I have the 13000 and 50 amp plug wired into fuse boxes. When I have it under load, it sputters out and dies. When I turn off circuit breaker on generator it runs fine. Any idea why? I thought if I was overloading it the circuit breaker would flip
@maskcopaga You need to check the wiring to your breaker panel. Make sure your main is disconnected to prevent backfeed, then turn all your breakers off. Then connect the generator, let it run for a minute or so, turn on it's 50A breaker, then turn on the panel breakers one at a time. When you find the circuit that is causing the issue, you'll know what to investigate further. I would almost bet it is your central AC or heat pump circuit? If so, add a soft start kit to the AC compressor.
It’s called “liquid-tite” conduit. Not liquid tech ? Also, what size conductors did you run in it ? It looks to be 1/2” and that’s not big enough to carry 4 #8 copper conductors?
What are you using to broadcast the HDMI signal for your cameras? I have a similar setup with cameras and have been looking for a solution to have more monitors in other rooms.
You can find them at this link. Been working great for two years now. They transmit from the living room downstairs to the upstairs master bedroom with no glitches at all. Great vid! Do you have to HAVE an interlock system installed? Can’t you just turn off the main breaker on the side of the house? Trying to diy it myself Thank you
It has not hurt anything on my home. Same generator. Lots of electronics. No issues at all. I did put a Hyper Engineering soft start kit on my AC compressor, just to cut way down on the inrush current.
Depends on what all you have. We have several deep freezers so I will need atleast this or more since I don’t want to switch breakers on and off all the time
Yes, I have the same generator. 5 ton AC, 2 refrigerators, 2 deep freezers, and a pool pump. It runs everything, 3 bedrooms, 3 baths, kitchen, living room, tv's, wifi, 3 computers, etc. I did install a soft start kit on the AC compressor, to knock the inrush current way down. With everything on in the house, and the pool pump, it was pulling about 7500 watts total.
Great video - thanks for sharing. Did it power your AC unit ok and if so, how many tons is your AC unit(s) please?

great video, very helpful thanks! did you have to attach a grounding wire to it??
No need to since the electrical panel is grounded which automatically grounds the generator when generator is connected to it.
How do you protect your electronic from the thd, i got this generator and now im scared to run it because of what i heard about thd and what it can do
Did you use 6 or 8 gauge wire?
Awesome review.
Would you kind enough to share what camera system you have and where to get it. I wanna upgrade

6 gauge
