Thanks for bringing up these free photo editing apps. It really motivates beginners to try out something new and venture into the filed of photo editing. :)
Incase you didn't know...THANK YOU from all us digital tools. I started a Virtual Assistant business last year. Your recommendations, tutorials and opinion got me started, maintained and growing.
Can't come up with 5 myself, but if I was go to completely free for Photo editing, I'd probably pick RawTherappe's RAW processor and GIMP for pixel-based editing (especially now that it supports some of the more popular RAW formats and layers).
The basic obfuscation of photographs(pictures) are included by default in freeware irfanview without the need to install additional filters. The effects have sliders which makes things very convenient. Example, pixelise(explode) minimal, smoothern minimal, paint effect medium... in-sequence
As a photo editor, people assume I do it because I don't like the way something looks, but actually, I just like to see things from a good perspective.
Gimp is nice when it actually works! I have wrestled with several versions of Gimp. They all crashed or would not start to begin with. I tried an experimental version, 2.99.4. It worked just fine 2 weeks ago, but last night, when I tried to export of photo, it crashed and gave me an error about the jpg plug-in! I tried to export with the PNG format, then Webp. Grimp crashed every time. I just installed an older version, 2.10.18, and tried to export a photo, and it actually worked! So far, so good.
Whew, that's a lot of info to absorb. I'm not a professional photographer; just need to edit personal photos from old camera and also from my smart phone which take terrible pictures and has few tools to help. Can You recommend a free product for me.
Great video - Thank you! I have some old photos, some have a "pinkish" hue and others "yellowish", Can you recommend what might be the best of these programs to try to fix them?
You guys are the BEST! Every time I watch one of your videos I am glad that I found you. Please keep up the good work, it means a lot to your fans like me.

Hello I am new at photography and trying to learn PS and LR. I have a new HP spectre but I need to get a smaller laptop or tablet that I can carry with me. I was told by Adobe that I have to have a Microsoft surface pro laptop. PS will not work on an Android or chrome. I don't want to purchase another expensive laptop. I see that thi software is free and just as good as PS for a beginner anyway. So I guess my question would be.. Do these programs work on an Android or Chrome? If it does, then I can settle for a cheaper travel option with windows 10. This travel laptop is just for photo editing. What processor. how much of ram. storage. specs would I need to begin with? Can I download 3 of these programs and edit photos between the 3 programs? Thank you kindly
Photo editing is extremely difficult for a software unsavvy (old) person like me, makes me want to go back to film, nowadays they can land a rocket, right side up, on a floating platform in the ocean, but they can't make photo editing software easier?
Your video was helpful. I hope I can finally find what I need from a free service for a novice user. One small point, I really imagine Photopea is not pronounced 'fo to pee' : )

Raw Therapee?? that's probably the best lightroom alternative, and has TONS more features than lightroom...
Darktable is also good.
