- As we get settled in our new home base of Lisbon, Portugal and travel starts to fully normalize, we begin exploring beautiful Sagres, the most southwestern point of the Algarve and continental Europe (Sagres Point).
We retired early in 2018 to pursue the dream of financial independence and are traveling the globe in search of our little piece of paradise to call our forever home. How to get to Sagres from Lisbon:
there are 2 routes by car:
1) Toll Route: 3hr 11min
tolls €21.20
Total distance: 328Km
2) Scenic route: 3hr 49min
Tolls €7.95
Total distance: 288Km
We rented a Via Verde Toll Transponder from the car rental company (€20)
All toll fees are directly charged to the credit card you leave on file with the rental office.

I love Sagres! I went down there twice during my 3 months in the Peniche area. I love how rugged it is… and the history is interesting. It’s beautiful in a wild sort of way. Are you doing ok in Lisbon without a car? 10 Euro for a rental is great.
yes! public transport is super good and inexpensive. Plus we walk a lot. Gasoline ended up costing us far more than the car rental..we're taking the bus next time to compare.
