- Опубліковано 26 лип 2024
- Tom Cotter's never-ending search for forgotten classic cars continues in the northeastern U.S., where the beautiful barns of Vermont and New Hampshire provide a few surprises. He starts with a 1936 Ford Pickup truck towing a vintage wooden speed boat before moving on to a nicely-aged 1935 Ford Phaeton. Then he comes upon a true New England classic, a Ford Model A snowmobile. Later, Tom and his 1939 Ford Woodie Wagon find a friendly Vermont woman, who reveals a 1967 Plymouth Barracuda convertible that has been in her family for 30 years. To top off this episode, Tom uncovers a gorgeous, unrestored Sunbeam Alpine with a well-documented SCCA racing history, which includes a close encounter with famed race car driver Don Yenko.

The production and passion from Tom brings me back over and over no matter how many times I’ve seen them. Thanks guys
Not to state the obvious, but the production values in this video series are so good (and not obvious) that they make other car videos on You Tube look weak. Thanks for posting this great series.
So very true William. During and after every episode, my envy to be Tom Cotter increases. What a tough job he has. The locations are gorgeous and the people are very engaging. Ahh - to have his job! Chuck in Kansas
What's under the hood of the Cuda? That's like inviting someone over for cake, but besides showing how pretty it is and how moist it is,you don't get to have a piece! Ooooo barracuda! Yenko sides wiping another racer is legendary! Rubbing is racing, or so they say,but fixing them after we get them all tuned and looking spectacular is a gut punch getting knocked out of the race! That's great the Sunbeam owner is generous enough to let her go back out into the world and not hoard it as we've seen oh too many selfishly misered past the point of no return! Kudos and thank you!!!!▪☆☆☆▪
Love the Alpine. I grew up around Tigers. My grandpa has 4 Tigers and 3 Alpines.
Great episode!! 👍👍
We restored a barracuda just like that about 2 years ago. Convertible as well but the top was made out of actual jean and apparently it was a factory option
Tom looks like a great guy to drink a few beers with and talk cars all night long
I want to work for him. It'd be such a tough job... lol
you were only a few hours away from me. as a 30+ year auto tech I've owned hundreds of cars. bought, traded, debt collection on work, abandoned at shop. I was fortunate to be able to keep the special ones. if interested in checking out a workingman's 401k, the next time your around new Hampshire look me up. you'd be one of the few people welcome. because I work on other people's cars for a living mine are definitely the definition of barn finds even though I have owned some since high school. 68 skylark custom, 76 cherokee chief, 55 Bell air v8 tri power, 65 Chevy sportsman van, 84 e24 Alpina 3.5 with long range fuel system, and a 37 Cadillac/Lesalle Opera coupe. all sitting patiently, wating for me to work on them. love your show. one of the few I watch more than one episode of.
I love this show! Good on Hagerty for the sponsorship!
She started the engine and put the top down, I was kind of disappointed we didn't get to go for a short ride in the drop top Barracuda...
Me too, it would have only added a couple of more mins. to the video and would have been neat!
These are the best shows on YT
And thanks for mentioning the taillights. I was wondering why it had those funky ones vs the stock ones. I kinda figured it had something to do with it being a works car. I've got a 65 Alpine with a ford 302 and a toploader. Love these cars.
Really look forward to your Barn Find episodes. They are great! Thanks!
Paul
More, more pleace. I love this serie
Can't get enough of barn find hunters. Love it
There are barns like this everywhere in Maine too, I'm constantly finding good stuff
I'll say it again. Why is this not on tv right there along with Chasing Classics?? Btw. Another great video and great stories about the cars.
very nice fords, love the old barracuda, but that sunbeam, and wow this guy knows british cars, well 50's british cars, and 60's ish cars
I would love to see some more AMC stuff! Keep these coming though, awesome to see this stuff still out there!
This was really great to see you searching in Vermont. I used to go on motorcycle rides in VT with some older guys I worked with. They would say "whoever made the roads in VT was a motorcycle rider". Come to NH next time. Even Western Massachusetts. Amazing land, the farms, and barns. We got old cars too!
Great video!! One thing, I believe the taillights on the works Sunbeam were factory and not after market. Those lenses are definitely Lucas lenses which were fitted on all British cars of the '60's.
He mentioned they were a factory installed racing option. Easy access to the bulb during a race.
You're right, technically not barn finds. All of the cars but the alpine appear to be well maintained and driven. Nice video.
It’s cool you went to Putney,I went to a prep school called Greenwood in putney the first year they were opened in 1976 and I loved that experience, I lived in Birmingham Alabama and road raced motorcycles as well as having owned some cool cars such as a Datsun 240Z,Alfa Romeo’s spider boat tail,AUDI Quattro short wheelbase and in 88 looked at a Ferrari 308 GTB which was owned by a close friend who let me borrow it for about three months and I loved it but also got to drive a 64 250 SWB and a 275 GTB and a 246 Dino, there’s a few more I could go through but you get my gist, love your show,my mother’s side of our family owned a mountain house in Banner Elk North Carolina and Wow what incredible fall colors and man the winters were brutal,I was stuck there for about two weeks in the mid eighties and used cross country skis to get to the store and back, wouldn’t trade those times for anything, also I’m friends with Peter Greggs younger son Simon who used to race and may still be racing but he won a world championship in 2012,good times!
The lady with the Cuda..son who is 40? Must be pushing 60!! She just plain adorable!!!
nice headlights too !
robotcar poli
Aged well , very well !!!
This is so well done. Thanks for another great episode.
Tom, I always enjoy your videos in this series. As a multi Sunbeam Alpine owner in my youth and a guy who has always lusted after Tigers,....I particularly enjoyed this episode. One of these days, Ill be up in your neck of the woods to visit with Rob and hope we can meet. Brian Collins
I bought a 1968 Sunbeam from a friend in 1980 but I hated the little engine so I installed a Rx3 12 A rotary Engine and trans..it was the sweetest little Euro Hot Rod ever
Love your show. its been put together and edited so well. Look forward to many more
I owned and drove a 1960 Sunbeam Alpine. Loved this..
Another Great Episode...Many Thanks
My neighborhood is a barn find. I have a 54 Willy's truck , 2 doors down a 56 Bel air and a triumph, and other goodies. 2 doors the other way dude has a super old jag and Toyota. Lots of cool stuff
That final barn/garage deserves a video of its own. The carpenters who built it did a beautiful job.
Great color the Barracuda
Awesome! Thank you
The stuff people have tucked away.
Great series. Thanks Tom, and thanks Hagerty!
I love seeing these barns all over N.E.!
I need these shows once a week!
altered wheel base 65 Plymouth 3 miles from me. drag history galore
Great video....the little Sunbeam is the stuff dreams are made of.
Love this show...he is so knowledgeable about ALLL these sweet finds. That Ford collection is amazing....and the last car I've never seen....its pretty cool ....great shop too btw
There is a 1970 Boss 429 in Grabber Orange that used to be a Mr. Clean drag car sitting a few miles from me.
Let them know, who knows if they pass by the area with the show they might take a peek. I bet they get a lot of tips now.
Go get it
@@xbear7473 Guy has spent over $100,000 CAD restoring it with NOS Boss 429 parts.
cool episode ! you get to talk to pretty women with nice cars now ! what a job ! also like hearing about the vintage racer
Love Vermont!
Tom, first time I heard you mention an Austin Healey Sprite; a 1960 was my first car. Sold it and bought a 1954 2-door Studebaker Champion. Just started following the series and hope to these cars in a future episode. Just sold the Studebaker a few years ago as a project car. Thanks for doing the series & I’m enjoying catching up!
*hope to see an Austin Healey Sprite & a Studebaker Champion.
Great episode, and very nice cars
thanks
i love when he calls a sweetheart. great show. that's a man following his passion in life.
That was the greatest yet.
Another awesome episode!!! Thanks!
Well time too time i see your episode and they are always super interesting. Here in my region of Pohenegamook of the province of Quebec we dont see more of those old cars.We are seeing a piles of rust tole much of the time maybe one day i will be able too find an old pickup. He really knows cars!
Always a great video. Is there a video about your woodie? I like to know more about it, where you got it & what you did to restore it. Real nice driver.
At the end where he's driving off, i thought i heard the whine of a turbo. Anyone else hear that or am i just imagining it?
Yes you right, I heard this too !
There is a whine. Maybe we can hear it in other videos. I'll pay attention now.
Another great video. Thanks.
Anyone else want to see what’s under Pauline’s hood?
as frank zappa would sing,,,,,She makes my Dynamo hummmmm!
She's kinda skanky !
Check the head lights and lube the rear end ?
@@shakespeare_hall4788 high mileage... everything dried up ... the old chassis has been banged up a lot... Headlights out of alignment probably some serious Rod knocking the cylinder bore probably lose lots of taper ... sloppy no compression... lmao
@@quagmiredavis4117 kinda is saying come on in have a look around while the voice in the back of your mind is saying
You don't really wanna go there!
And there is Anothet voice saying Hey hiw bad do you want it coz it's gunna cost you!
As long as u keep something out of the weather something can last forever!
Great series of shows, nice authentic stories.
The editing in this video is very well done
New wiper rubbers might help your vision in the rain ))
Jim Clarke gg
He prefer the original
Jim Clarke moveis
Knew it was a Sunbeam Alpine before the cover came off. When I was a kid 40+ years ago a neighbor had one plus Maxwell Smart drove a Sunbeam in Get Smart in the '60s.
VetteKid i knew a nurse in esrly 70's had a 289 sunbeam. funny thing i still remember het phone number
I knew sunbeam but not the model
My neighbor has an unrestored Tiger, he just got it not too long ago. It needs a lot of TLC but it runs and he takes it out. Remember it's a Bond car!
Duke Of Prunes it's basically a factory v8 swap.
Wonderful Sunbeam.. It would be fantastic to see it restored to as-ready-to-race condition.
Love these segments, he sees some cool stuff...
Hey Tom, the beard looks great. Love the Sunbeam!
Awesome Sunbeam!!!!
I been waiting for a long time for a barn find video
1922 Model T- woody ,WOW what a beautiful Baby with a cherry on top.
Awesome episode!
That is a Awsome barn I've never had a garage I'm jealous and envy anyone with a garage
0:37 is a good shot of the sediment layers laid down during The Flood 4,350 years ago.
That boat really was something different
thanks for this upload. latest videos were nice but this one is the real meaning for my subscription to this channel. Blessings
Awesome!
Lovely video again, about the best series youtube has to offer. But what is with the Sunbeam rear window? It's not there, and then .. it's there! Magic. Love it!
She has a 40 yr old son? She's more interesting than the car in a way.
Had me thinking I wanted to drive to Vermont and meet her!.....(;>)
Brian Collins Spend a Winter in Vermont... or parts North.
Hugh-John, I grew up in Massachusetts, Upstate New York, and Pennsylvania, and spent some time in Vermont in the winter,....with a touring Rock band.
thirsty bastards...lol to tell the truth...I was thinking the same thing..nice tight lil bod on her.
damn the cuda !!! wow ... very hard to find !!!
Cool show!
Would love to see the old wooden boat in the water running
Tom you need to come to Canton Ga. there are about 5 guys locally that have probably 100 cars between them. When you get to Canton go into Orielley Auto parts. Ask for Peanut, he can direct you to almost every car guy in the area. You will ajust about any muscle car they made Dodges, Chevy's, Fords, Plymouth's, some real rare stuff between them and there really are many more. This is a hot bed for old money and old car. Ask about a guy named Benny out on hywy 140. You find a lot of restored and modified but also around here they are not called barn finds they sit all over. and if you ask to buy one most of the time you get this answer. "well it aint eatin nuthin so i'll just keep it." and they sit and sit for years
The Alpine is a Series 2. The factory racing colour was “Seacrest Green”. On all Series 1 & 2 Alpines, the hardtop is aluminium from the factory.
Great video.
I guessed tiger! I was close!
Where's my 4 speed Ford wagon, always when u do a video and it's not there, reassure me it's ok, and resting, Baracuda was awesome, Sunbeam has great history
Should have shown the Motor on the Barracuda! The Sunbeam Alpine is a cool Story. It would also be cool to follow this car. For me I couldn't offer more than a couple of grand for it but I may be worth a bit more. Restoring it and then taking it around would cost a lot more than that for sure, but it would be worth doing for almost anyone that could fit the bill.
hey nice post sir or gal. that woman has a son 40 ? she looked 40
Best videos on UA-cam !!!
Cool vidio good music, interesting cars, one the best channels on utube.
Need some Rain-X on that Woody's windshield. ;)
When I saw how the cover was hanging on the rear of that car, I said out loud, "Sunbeam".
Alpine was a fabulously good looking car, race model so rare today,I think better looking than Daimler SP250 which was used by British traffic police for a short time😀
Sell the Sunbeam to Jay Leno, he's been looking for a replacement for his tiger for years.
From where l'm from Alpine, Tiger, Healeys, Cooper S and Hillman lmp. Most were brought from Australia by the RAAF pilots and they raced it in local event around an island againts Mk1 Lotus Cortina and later the Mk2 Lotus Cortina. The big Holden Torino doesn't suit the road race course like Monaco and Macau. l didn't mention where is that island, this was in late 70's till early 80's and it is near the equator...Happy hunting.
THAT BARRACUDA WAS MINT!
I know a guy from Grand Bend In Ontario that still makes Sunbeam body parts
Had to be either a sunbeam alpine/tiger or a Daimler sp250
I've been hoping to see a Sunbeam on here
Like - 😎 • Cheers from The Detroit & Mackinac Railway 🚂
lots of history, i like this stuff almost as much as lenos garage
I had a 67 notch back, traded it up in Maine for a 1968 jeep dually with the go for digger backhoe it's on you tube.
Those Sunbeam taillights were often on the front of British cars as indicators. Red, orange or clear.
Please make it longer. It would be so great if it was just a little bit longer..! - We await with baited breath for morsels .. ;)
