ASMR The Turkic Languages (soft spoken)

Grammar overview from Ersen-Rasch/Seyhan: Güle Güle. Türkisch für Anfänger. (for German speakers)
Today we're looking at the Turkic languages, a family found in large parts of Asia. It has some really interesting grammatical features like agglutination and vowel harmony, and we'll also briefly discuss whether it might be part of a larger family called Altaic languages.
One sober point: I said that the larger Turkic languages have a stable or even growing number of speakers. I'm not confident over whether that's true for Uighur.
Some of the Tuvan bands I mentioned:
Huun-Huur-Tu play traditional songs, Yat-Kha play a traditional/rock/punk fusion I have no words for, maybe the coolest band on the planet, and also check out the Chalama Project by a Radik Tyulyush (sometimes also transliterated as Tülüsh) who was in both bands, a voice out of this world.
And if you feel yourself drifting off halfway through, that's perfectly fine! Sleep well 💖

Hello or Salem from Kazakhstan 🇰🇿 💙💛 Thank you for the video :) also very interesting about Altaic group. I speak Kazakh, Turkish and a bit of Koreans and I totally can see that grammar structure of sentences indeed is somewhat similar to Turkic group. It’s not very well known thing, so happy that you covered that. Amazing details 🤍
Hey, thank you so much! That's a cool mix of languages, I'm sure you have a better insight there than me 💛
I study Korean and always wondered about its roots as I find many similarities with Turkic languages. It’s so interesting that you said there might be a connection! I would LOVE a video on Korean or Japanese if you have some more knowledge to share:) Lovely video as always ♥️
Hey, very happy to hear found this interesting, thank you! 🥰 I've put Korean and Japanese on my list but to be fair, it's quite long at this point, so I can't make any promises as to when I'll get to it.
And like the other commentators said, Korean is considered an isolate language, so this is a niche theory that from what I understand looks into possible contact to Turkic languages in a distant past, but doesn't suggest a genetic relation. Since you're studying Korean, I'm sure you can find some interesting articles on this that are probably a lot more accessible to you than to me haha; my knowledge tends to be a bit superificial.
@@zaboybagoi8636 scythians are turkic tho

Thank you some much for your videos ♡♡♡. Hi from Kazakhstan!
Hello! My pleasure, thank you for commenting!
Love these language videos. Have rewatched the ‘8 largest families’ ‘German Language’ and ‘Celtic Language’ vids multiple times. This is a perfect addition. Selfishly, I request a video on semitic languages! I know you would do this ancient and fascinating family justice.
Thank you very much! That's a great suggestion. I love the idea of adding Semitic languages, but it will probably take a bit before I get to it - the list is long (and ever growing).

As Qazaq, i want say you thank you so much🤲🏻. Hello from Qazaqstan🇰🇿🇰🇿🇰🇿. Yeah qazaq right name, not kazakh from russian.
the grammar rule of suffixes at the end of words in turkish is super similar to irish - we have pretty much the exact same rule but it only applies to prepositions !
That's unexpected, how cool! Thank you for sharing that.
as a turkic speaker who knows serveral dilects of 2 turkic language , i actually learned something new at the end of the video. Also , dont know if someone mentioned or not , but , we pronounce "r" more like english rather than french. Google's explanation: "the tongue touches the top of the mouth when pronouncing the Turkish r, but not for the English r"
Ah yes, the Turkish R, my nemesis. I do know it in theory, but it's not something I can pronounce.
Feels nice to hear your countries name in an ASMRtists video:) (Hello from Azerbaijani 👋🏼)

I appreciate that, thank you Chris!
I find it quite fascinating that your pronunciation of some of the turkish words and phrases were spot-on. Did you by any chance study turkish? Regardless, this was a great video and really relaxing
I did take two or three Turkish courses, yes, but that was some time ago. I don't remember too much of it, sadly. It's a neat language!
Love this!! I'm currently learning six different languages on Duolingo and Turkish is one of them. For some reason, it's truly one of my top three easiest languages that I've been learning, I love it. I think that due to the fact that I've been watching Turkish dizis for awhile now might help with that factor, but I just adore it. It's such a gorgeous language. I hope to be able to learn more Turkic languages as well! I'm working on becoming a cultural anthropologist and I plan on specializing on the Greek and Asia Minor/Eastern Mediterranean, SWANA, Central Asian, and South Asian regions. Thank you for another glorious video!
If you ever need help from a native that studies deep into Turkish language, I'm here. You can make contact whichever you want
Six languages, I'm impressed!! How do you schedule your practice? I always struggle with taking on more than one language at a time on duolingo.
Best of luck with your studies, sounds like you have a great plan!
Omg I wanted this video for so long!
What about doing one for the Italian? As an Italian person I think that this language it’s amazing and also the whole story behind this language it’s super interesting. :))

Greetings from Azerbaijan 🇦🇿. Thank you very much for making this video 😊. It made me really happy. One very important thing that I have to tell you - the term "azeri" is absolutely wrong. It was created by Soviet Union in XX century and main purpose was to brainwash Azerbaijan Turks. Telling that they are not Turk, they are some fantasy azeri people, basically it was soviet propaganda. I also want to mention that your voice is very calming. If someone wants video about Turkic language, I will absolutely recommend you. Great job 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻.
Ah okay, thank you for the information! I had no idea. And I'm very happy you enjoyed the video :)
Historical Arabic documents show there was a language called Azeri in what is now Azerbaijan. Turkish came to Azerbaijan when the illkhanids after the fall of the Mongol empire. Azerbaijan, Gence,, Baku, Tabriz , etc. are all Persian words. Which shows the people who named these places spoke Persian or a language close to it . There still remains the Azeri language in the forms of Tat and Talish even today in Azerbaijan.

I highly recommend it!
Thank you for the kind words! And I love both channels, thank you for bringing it up - I didn't know either.
There are a few german historians (Klaus H. Dieckmann, Euralinga: Die türkische Urverwandtschaft, 2008) who see a similarities in both linguistic and cultural aspects to old turkic and old germanic peoples, which i find fascinating how far we can trace peoples origin and history. Me being both german and turkısh native speaker, i find some really interesting similarities of both languages. I really like your videos, your voice is very relaxing =)
Hey, thank you so much, I'm very happy you enjoyed it!
That connection between Turkic and Germanic languages sound pretty wild. I'm afraid Dieckmann isn't a good source for that kind of thing, though. From what I've been able to find him on him, he's a programmer, not a historian or a linguist. It sounds like his books are more of a fixing up his pension kind of deal 😅
@@MelangeASMR He worked as a programmer but he studied also Volkswirtschaftslehre, Soziologie, Islamwissenschaft, orientalische und asiatische Sprachen,so yes he was indeed not a historian that was a mistake of mine… When we reffer to old germans and old turks it's not that wild. The human history is very complex and the idea that each group has developed isolated only within their group is no more justifiable. Science is developing and we should be open to new arguments. As someone who speaks both german and a turkic language I can see why there are few people supporting that possibility. Very basic things are similar, which could and should not happen if they were fully developed separately. And those are not late ottoman words that happen to enter into german. min/men/me/ming - ich, bücken-bükmek mek-make/machen, en,an,er,ar agentive suffixes,…are only a few of many linguistic examples. The cultural similarities which Dieckmann explains are also interesting, maybe one should read before assuming something about him. I mean one can think these are coincidences but how is that arguable, if we know that humans didn't pop out of the regions they are now living in. Especially germanic tribes and turkic tribes have a known late nomadic history. We can surely not say that one is the origin of one another but we can at least say maybe there was a coparent language from where these two 'might' derived from. I think we should leave a door open and be ready for surprising future linguistics research results. I think it's very interesting and the more open we are the deeper we can dig in human history and learn more. I personally am exited for that because in this time young people grew up with multiple cultural understanding and with digital opportunities more is added, so researchs will be much better than they were 20 years ago. Nonetheless I really enjoy historical asmr series. Keep up the good work ❤️
I hear you on this, but he's just not a scientific source. He's a self-published author on amazon from a different field with a very vague, self-written blurb.
@@MelangeASMR of course, that is true. My point is only there are some findings and these are interesting and it's exciting to see whether science will agree on these or even take these in consideration in future or not. I just keep in mind that linguistics is still yet a growing field with room for the unexplored. Which is exciting.

Even though they are all considered Turkic languages , we dont understand each other, but a Spanish person can understand each other in Argentina or Mexico, or Arabs, and us Turks, even if we go to Kazakhstan or Uzbekistan, it would take 1 or 2 years to learn, there are completely different pronunciations and other words. That's why I'm so sad, maybe because we lived in different places for a long time. like this but it's sad
