You are amazing! Praying for your strength and protection as you face this sail ahead, Bill and Grace. ⛵
I’m still in such awe that you made this voyage! I’m sorry that you both were sick on passage but so glad you persevered!
Thanks Marisa!
Congratulations, guys. I've watched your trials over the last couple of years and am very happy for you. As you know, you are headed to a beautiful spot on Earth. I know you have crossed the equator because I watched a short of Ali doing a happy dance in the Breaking Waves video. If you are not already there, I wish you good luck with the rest of the passage.
LOL
So exciting to see you two starting the passage. Best of luck and stay safe. ❤
Thank you so much!
I like that you two are so open with all aspects of this journey. It's refreshing.
Glad you enjoy it!
I am so happy you'all n Kiana are keeping pace. Quality people attract quality people n Love ya both. I am also so happy you are doing well with your past cancer and still praying for you and your sister for full continued clean negativos.
It's been fun to spend time with the Breaking Waves crew!
Please keep being you! Happy, sad, all of it.
Yay1 so happy to see you truly out on passage. You two have been through a lot in the last 2 years , and worked hard to continue to purse your dreams. Reach for the sky, and the next destination. ♥
You guys are amazing. I've always loved your channel because you two are so honest and down to earth. I'm so excited for your journey. We've been living aboard our 41 Fraser sailboat for 5 years and are finally leaving the dock in 4 weeks to start our adventures
wow excited for you guys!
The first day of summer vacation was always so filled with anticipation of the days ahead. Not even in the same ballpark as day 1 of a Pacific crossing, but in my limited lifetime list of adventures, the closest I can imagine.
Loved the first day of summer vacation as a kid!
The whale was wishing you a fair passage ❤
Grace I gotta say: yer Mammy raised a daughter who's Truly
🌹Beautiful🌹 inside & out!
I Hope you 2 get a chance to meet up & see the Delos tribe.
Something tells me their little fartskinner would be Mighty Happy to spend time with you Chickadoo.
🙏🦉
🌅
So excited for you both. Congratulations on getting back to your love & adventures.🎉🎉
Thank you so much!!
How exciting and when you guys pulled up beside Kiana to deliver diesel and the happy dances, priceless.
We were so stoked! It's like the moment just hit us!
Bon Voyage!
Just a really good episode! Settling in to a long passage takes a few days to get the rythum going and to work the bugs out. You look to be making miles! Enjoy these passage videos!👍😊
I like the fact you have lots of good food for the next 6 months! I love hearing the waves against the boat as you sail along. I wish you all a safe passage!
Grace was joking she's ready if another pandemic hit, so much food!
@@CalicoSkiesSailing one never knows these days and not much shopping where you guys are heading. I can't wait to see your videos when you get there, I love the way the sunshine hits the island and everything glows in a golden light. Safe travels as always!
Great to see you guys get started on your next adventure. Always enjoy your story telling. Seems so raw.
Wow, that would be a teary one, saying goodby to those guys. I'm watching them do their bottom now. Its not good by , its SEE YOU SOON ! That boat going across the Pacific will be amazing !
Nice to see you out on the water
Fantastic!!
You must be so happy and proud too.
I could write a bunch but will only say thank you for the video and editing work and thank you for sharing with us landlubbers, says the retired Navy Engineer, Shellback X 3, Golden Shellback X 1. Take care you two, enjoy the journeys.....
Your welcome! Golden Shellback cool!
It is all about sailing.
You're off!! Great
Can’t believe it’s been two years either! Happy and healthy crossing!

Another great episode! My money is always on Calico when there is a race......and any time two sailboats are going in the same direction....it's a race. Bill is a fantastic Captain and Calico Skies is a fast, safe boat. Sabre needs to sponsor your channel!!!
Thanks Ron!! We love our Sabre! We were first across this time.. lol. I think in pure 20 knots trades the bigger boats will get us!
You two are an inspiration to me. I'll be glad when I get home from vacation so I can get back to work on my boat.
Awesome, glad to hear it!
Congratulations for departing. There was a time when I (and probably you too) thought you may never go. But, you are finally underway.
I hope you have good wind and following seas ALL THE WAY!
I'll be watching
Yes! Thank you!
Well done on your milestones and achievements, I wish you love, laughter, happiness, fair winds, following seas and most of all new adventures.
EXCITING AND FRESH
Nice to see you guys moving again!
For sure!! It feels good for us too lol
Thank you.
Following your passage.
Hope you are finding Marquesas magical.
Am crying happy tears :) for you and Bill.
Thank you! Hope your recovering is going well!
Safe travels 🙏🏻
Thanks, I'm looking forward to the rest of the trip.
More to come!
Great video leaving MX....that has to be tough and scary...but I know you are in South Pacific now. Congrats ..fun to follow..thank you...God bless you both, as my wife has asl beat breast cancer twice, 20 yrs apart and we are still sailing ... Season #24 just wrapped in Antigua. #svIslandSpirit
wow awesome, congrats!
Your comment on the pieces fitting is dead on! Couldn't have expressed it better.
😀
Fair winds, smooth seas, and helpful currents.
You are amazing an inspirational to watch. Thank you for sharing your wonderful adventures.
I just wanted to say Hi. Just added Yall to follow. Fair Sails Be Safe.
Hi 👋🏻
Exiting episode. Let´s go! :-)
Great recap of the start of your sail!
Glad you enjoyed it
Highest Blessings
Great video, particularly your choice of music for your pre-departure and first day out.
I think that you did well to put into words the gamut of anticipation, concern, mental preparation, foreknowledge, and sensation of taking a step into the unknown that is the turmoil of one’s mind when setting out on an ocean crossing.
A strange mixture of readiness and unreadiness for all that the coming weeks will bring.
The passages I’ll always cherish are the ones that commenced with a visit from a big pod of dolphins or porpoises. To have a departure marked by the view of a big humpback…So special
Hope that life’s treating you kindly and you’re fully recovered from the passage, lapping up the beauty of the Tuamotos.
Cheers! R. 😎👍🍻
It's so good to be here!
Love watching your adventures. Fair winds.❤
Thanks for watching!
well done bringing this story to th e masses, was in La Cruz getting set at the same time, big shout out to Mike at PV sailing, he gave us direction 10/120 your story details every detail, even our friendship with Garret and Ruth.. planning and direction , we laugh now because we were always trying to make some southing but nature always put us backk on course 222degrees.
Mike did such a great job preparing us all with his weather briefings, also shout out to Jamie from Totem as well!
Congratts, we love your stuff!!!!

Hi there!!!! Good to hear from ya :) ha! Well ya they were doing so good too. Hope u r well!
Knowing you are already there in the Marquesas, I can enjoy these passage episodes :) Nice to have friends in VHF range, hopefully for a majority of the route.
Lol a lot less stressful if you know the end result lol
Nice departure. Enjoy as it's all about the adventure.
Ciao
Many thanks!
Great video, seeing the last anchor lift in the northern hemisphere.
That right, pollywags no more!
So great. Happy for you guys!
Good stuff, glad you guys made it across. 😊👍
15:25 He sounds just like Bob Odenkirk 🙂 Close your eyes and you will ... ahh ... see? ;-)
😂
Love you guys, be safe!
Have a nice trip enjoy, you still gut it looking very nice on the bow... 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺
😍
Brilllllliant Calico - you rock - fair winds and fresh fish 🐟 - thanks for sharing ⛵️ 👍
Loved It! I'm so happy to know you are already there! : - ) It helps being a patron.
Yay! Thank you!
great video
Groovy episode again
bon voyage!
Really good video, thanks
Glad you liked it!
Great episode, thanks from British Columbia Canada 🇨🇦
🇨🇦🥰
This is one of My favorites ever. So true to form, outside of the recent" Good News " videos, this one feels like the BIG PAYOFF. You guys are so lucky to live in the Moment and share your experiences with such honesty. All your stars aligned and the Whale on departure was your Sign...a Harbinger of Luck and Safe Passage ahead. Who didn't close the Valves?... lol... I crewed for a marine salvage expert. " 85% of boats sink bye the Head malfunctioning,( imagine that OVERFLOW!) then prop shafts".
Thanks Ray!
I know you are probably already across the Pacific, but, Fair winds always.
Hey guys!
Excellent job telling and conveying just how the beginnings of a voyage feels. You really put the meat to this one 🤩. Ruth and Garrett are awesome! Any chance of talking them into a trip to Annapolis?😊. Ben and Allie will be great to buddy boat with. Be well my friends!!
Glad you enjoyed it! There's a chance you may see them there!
Looking forward to part 2! 😊
It's being uploaded to Patreon as we speak :)
Another great video and love all the explanations provided. Much appreciated and love following along.
Thanks Matt!
Nice work you two!
Thank you! Cheers!
Woo hoo, I've been looking forward to this video for 2 years, probably not as much as the 2 of you, not sure who I'm more excited for though, me or you. I was thinking, why not add a secondary fuel tank, but it didn't take long for me to figure that out... I'm guessing under normal circumstances 70 gals is plenty, it's only on a crossing as long as the pacific ocean when you could use more, and well, it will be a long time before you might be crossing for a 2nd time, so toughing it out is the only sensible option. I'll be waiting somewhat patiently for Part 2... hope the FP anchorages have been smooth and the views abundant!
We did add that bow tank and new stern tank during the refit. We only had 18 gallons in the boat before we upgraded but went up to 50 gallons during the refit!
@@CalicoSkiesSailing I guess I had a good Idea, just a few days late and a lot of dollars short... How I completely forgot about that during the refit is beyond me, maybe because I wasn't there getting my hands dirty! lol
You look like you’re in distress and trying to reach out,
Blink twice at the camera if you need help!
Ps. ( remember Bill, blink twice, and don’t let Grace see you) 🤣🍺
😂
Quit speed talking Bill 😂😂😂😂 just busting your balls ✌️✌️✌️⛵⚓⛵🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
lol NEVER, ha too hard to break that NYC accent
Enjoy, ya'll be safe
❤❤
Hello, how are you, good afternoon.
I hope the worst of the dizziness is over.
P.S. If you are interested, I can send you an automatic washing machine via email, you only need three pieces and Voilä. What a LUXURY!
Yay! Here we go!
Good Video! A question: What is you approach to redundancy, of any, with your autopilot system?
We have two complete setups; spare ram, computer , rudder feed back unit and three diff control heads. We also have a spare battleborn lithium battery uninstalled as well as spare flex solar panels hidden under the settees
It is too late to do so now, given the dinghy on the davits and the size of your solar panels, but when you were thinking through the setup on the boat, did you consider a wind vane?
We did but when we considered the amount of time at sea vs at anchor it made more sense for us to have more solar and easy deployment of the dinghy. We calculated that even when we crossed the Atlantic twice in a year and upon return sailed all the way to Nova Scotia and back we were at sea less than 20% of the year. This crossing we hardly needed engine / generator to keep up with the AP. The 1500w of solar is keeping up pretty well both at sea and anchor :) that being said would love a hydrovane hahha
Is your redundant autopilot set up one where your can hit a switch and go from one autopilot to the other or are they parts that are easily (I hope) switched for ones that have failed or are misbehaving?
❤🎉❤
👋👋❤🐳🐬🌴🌹
Thanks for the video. It's going to be great watching you cross the mighty Pacific. Always enjoy your videos.
Thank you!
