I enjoyed the show, but something in hindsight I can admit, this show suffered so much from only having an eight episode first season. It’s clear they planned originally for a longer first season, maybe around 16 episodes, and when it got chopped to eight they just had to fucking sprint through everything to get what they wanna get done for season one in order to set season two up.
I honestly doubt it, because they announced Season 2 was coming months before the first season premiered. Generally when a show does that (Inside Job, Cuphead, etc.) it's actually one big season split in half. That's likely what happened here. They didn't air ther season, then see how it went. They knew.
So let me explain the Niffty joke in episode one for you She came from a time of silent movies, so she's probably used to doing a pose and then her lines appear on screen. She had no idea she had to actually say her lines. Yeah the joke didn't get me on my first try, but when I got it I was chuckling all day long

I won't lie, I think it's a shame this is the only Everything Wrong with Hazbin Hotel for the official show we're getting. Like I get it, but I am disappointed. I was looking forward to hear your thoughts on Lucifer and how they handled him when you got to Episode 5.
fun fact in the 1st episode with Adam when he said "ugly people?" he looked at the camera with a smug smile basically saying that the people watching are ugly ofc its one of those "blink and you'll miss it" jokes but when i found out later i still laughed
I feel like the lack of characterization with Vaggie is something that could've been worked on, especially considering the fact that episode three is about an issue that we didn't even know she had. Imagine if in that scene with Pentious, Vaggie spotted him from her watch tower and tried to fight him and almost succeeded, but Alastor stepped in and Vaggie ends up feeling bad because of it. That would've subtly introduced her inadequacy to the audience and served as foreshadowing for episode three. Also Lute mentions that they don't kill Lucifer or Charlie because they got a 'pardon from an exorcist's blade'. And it is stated that she's the Princess of *Hell* so I believe it's safe to assume that she's powerful to some extent. My view of these characters may be skewed because I've been following her work for a while and know a lot about her characters, but even I can say that they could've established the characters and how this world works better.
Yeah this entire show would be better if I imagined an entirely new plot that doesn't exist instead of what we got, a good writer compensates for the time they are given even if amazon cut short some episodes vivzie should.have had a tighter script with these characters instead of constant sex/drugs jokes despite trying to take sexual abuse comically 'serious' What a grateful and absolutely courteous person vivzie turned into after being given her Broadway cast What a joke 🎉👏
About the reason for the extermination: the extermination is still happening due to overpopulation, but not for the purpose of allowing for more space and resources as previously believed. The reason is still overpopulation because a larger population means a larger potential army against heaven, so by keeping the population in check, they limit hell's ability to fight back. Too bad they didn't plan for episode 8, where most of the rebelling army's motivation to fight back was just to be able to eat angel meat.
Kinda sad to see you wont be making anymore of these for Hazbin because of copywrite and I was genuinely excited for your cinema-sin style take on these episodes. But I get it. Still really happy to see at least the first 2, and I eagerly await your review on the whole season 😊
Something you said in the video multiple times is that alestor is not very threatening. And I 110% agree with that he feels like an entirely different character in the show than the pilot. Like in the pilot, he seemed like such a strong and forbododibg character that had something going on in the background. we couldn't tell why he was at the hotel. But in the show, he is just oooo look at me im hungry for power like some generic vilian I feel that they fucked up his character in the show. Another thing I thought about is that the show should have basically disregarded ot and had the show start where the pilot started becausethere is many things that have changed and kwpt from the pilot so ot should have started from there and completely just put the piolt as a fun tid pit in the history of the show.
I got into a legit argument with a friend of mine about the world building of this show. It was something you pointed out about how some of the world building is done through livestreams, which is an enormous problem. I don’t watch livestreams, so I had no idea what happened when sinners died in hell. I made that point to him and he told me what happened. Okay I have an answer. But I didn’t get it from the show! He acted like it was fine that the show did world building like that. I mean… I guess it would be if the exterminations weren’t such a big part of the show. But they are. And you can’t skip over explaining that in the show!

Lol no, this video was written and recorded while I had only seen the first two episodes and it definitely has a throwaway line about Vaggie's spear that did not age well. This was just a video that had so many roadblocks that I stopped working on it for weeks at a time because I didn't know how to get around them. I was originally planning on posting this video the day that episodes 3 and 4 went live.

As someone who initially really wanted the show to succeed when the pilot was first released, I’m incredibly disappointed with how it’s turned out. There are lots of little aspects/concepts that could’ve made it very good, but the execution was absolutely piss poor.

Great video! Personally, i have two major issues with the show so far: 1. The show should've been a drama. It seems to me that the writers just... can't write comedy. E1 is the best example. While watching the episode, i just felt that the funny parts were forced, that there were pointlessly inserted swears and that some scenes dragged on for way too long. On the other side, each time the show tried to be serious, it worked really well for me. 2. I don't like how little does the "power system" matter in this show. Helluva actually does it well in my opinion - We can see that Stolas is powerful and supposed to be respected (unless between other royalty) and that imps are the underclass. In Hazbin however, i am really not feeing it. Charlie is literally supposed to be the third most powerful being in hell - more powerful than Asmodeus is in Helluva, but nothing is indicating that. The most aggregious example of this issue is E5, but it can also be seen in the first two episodes to an extent. I hope that this doesn't sound too negative, i'd actually rank the show 4/5 so far, but there are visible issues.
I mean it makes sense why Charlie doen't feel powerful. It's because she doesn't want to flaunt her status. Asmodeus and Stolas are respected because they WANT to be. They command authority because that's how they WANT to rule. Charlie outright states that she thinks comanding authority is mean.

I’m with you on not knowing if the pilot should be considered canon or not. I know Viv has said the only changes were character designs, but I do 100% Lucifer, and the whole overpopulation thing changed. My mom actually brought Hazbin Hotel up yesterday because her coworkers were talking about it and liked it. I did advice her to watch the pilot first. Just because I think the team’s assuming your watching the show with prior knowledge, and having access to the pilot would probably make things like character introductions a bit easier to understand, like what the hotel is, and how they all met
Playing devil's advocate for half a second, Charlie mentions both the issue of overpopulation and the issue of a potential uprising in the show, right? So technically, she still believes the extermination is a solution to the overpopulation, and it's the overpopulation that has the angels worried about an uprising. So, she could be looking at the problem of overpopulation on its own, while heaven is looking at the problem of overpopulation and what it implies for them. So... it could all just be really poorly communicated (these are tired thoughts, they may not make as much sense as I currently think they do lol).
Ok so first spoilers ahead. Alastor gets WAY more intimidating over the course of the show. Valentino only has direct control of angel when angel is in close proximity to him at least that’s what it seems like so can’t control him while he’s in the hotel. Now that we know vaggies past yeah she could have killed sir P there and it makes sense that’s she the guardian ever though Alastor is stronger because she can permanently kill people. That wasn’t a childish joke from Angel about vaggies name that is her actual name because Adam named her she just shortened it to vaggie. It’s like calling a tomboy named Georgina who goes by George her full name only even worse. Just a few notes on sins that are explained or get better.
I'm going to 100% agree with the HuskerDusk take, i genuinely despised and didn't care for every second of it in Episode 4, which is an absolute scorching take and i WILL die on this hill
See, this is why I pointed out that I was going to be a lot nicer as the series progresses. Episode 4 genuinely surprised me and I was actually onboard with HuskerDust after that episode. I still think I might prefer them to stay as a pair of ride-or-die friends, but I won't be mad if they become more than that.
I still don't get it at all.. I've never been able to see them as a potential ship/couple. We haven't even got any indications whatsoever that Husk likes men. I love seeing them as friends, but to me, there is absolutely no actual romantic chemistry between them.
While I’m not sure how often I would listen to Hazbin’s music on its own. The average Hazbin song is better than the average Helluva song but the best Helluva song is admittedly better than the best Hazbin song in my eyes. But I can actually listen to Hazbin’s music without it being interrupted or buried with sound effects so I still wanna say Hazbin is better on that merit.
