    I have these same exact wheels.. I wanted them red and black.. And everyone has told me that you can't powder coat chrome wheels without blasting them first.. But.. You did it.. And they look great.. What gives?

    • @adcpowdercoating3907
      @adcpowdercoating3907  4 роки тому +1

      The surface of chrome wheels is to smooth. You need to give to powder something to grab onto. I used a little scotch bright and went over the wheels just enough to sort of dull the finish. The trans gold I put on brightened back up. There is a fine line between not enough and to much. Also if you are doing a solid tone over it than it wont matter how sanded they are.

    1. What do you use to hook the wheels through the valve steam hole?
    2. Do you have a link for that vac you are using?
    3. What do you do about the center cap since a lot are plastic?

I also have a a small funnel on top of it and I will pour water down the hole especially in the summer it helps the ground. Make sure your kv are alot lower on a second or third coat.

      Hi, was reading the threads and noticed you didn't get a reply. I have had several auto rims powder coated and my powder coater told me not to go through drive through car washes (I don't like to anyway) because of the harsh chemicals and possible damage it can cause. I would recommend using WD-40 to remove any grease and simply wipe with a microfiber cloth after using soap to wash the rim. When clean, put a coat of wax in it to help in dirt/grease removal next time, hope it helps. A real good easy to use sealant/wax is mequiar's ultimate fast finish.

      @jeffreyhinman1397 5 років тому

      Considering he did a translucent gold or “candy” the chrome or a silver base was needed. No need to blast the chrome, even if using a solid color either way. It’ll just cost you more time than is really necessary for the same finish.

    • @jeffreyhinman1397
      @jeffreyhinman1397 5 років тому

      You can doesn’t matter you’ll get the same results. When using a translucent you need a chrome or silver to get the candy look or anodized look depending color. You’ll just cost yourself more time for prep if you blast the chrome off. Even if you use a solid color doesn’t matter if you shoot over chrome. Chrome is a very durable base don’t take it off if you don’t have to.

      @@jeffreyhinman1397 Nobody's arguing the durability of chrome. You missed the whole point of the question in your long ass response. The reason why chrome is so hard to powder coat over is because it's so hard and smooth nothing sticks to it. They look great. Because I've never done powered coating I can't be too judgmental but doesn't it make more sense to tape off everything that you don't want the black on rather than cleaning it off before baking?

      Most important thing is to make sure you have a good ground especially doing more than one coat. It is easy to get fish eyes and back ionization. Grounding is key.

    Hi there. Could letters be powder coated on brake callipers for example by using a vinyl decal mask to powder coat then remove the mask before putting into the oven?
