That rock between Echo Summit and Dicks Pass was BRUTAL on my feet, but that was my exit point (CCW) and my feet were hamburger by then, so it might'be just been me! Perfect time of the year last year, and being 2 weeks earlier I didn't have any smoke either. I ended up bailing at Echo (the rest to KBS remains unfinished business), but spent a zero at Fontanillis, and that was the best decision I made on trail!
Sounds like you made the right choice! I loved Fontanillis. I would like to go back to the Desolation wilderness just to have more time there. 100% needed some good foot soaks with all that rocky trail.
@@Mr_H878 Really was perfect weather wise. Just a bit hot, but that was to be expected (coming from WA it took an adjustment) If the snowpack is similar in 2023 to 2022 - that date range I highly recommend.
Hey this is great content on the TRT thanks for posting. I want to do it one day but I’m really bad with heights. I don’t mind stuff like dicks pass or the beginning of the video just big ridge drop offs. Are there any scary spots on the TRT?
Personally, I didn't find any part of the TRT to have sketchy spots. I might have a different risk tolerance then others, but going in summer when all the snow was melted from the trail posed no issues for me. I would recommend using trekking poles on this trail. Just to alliivtate strain on your knees and provide a little extra support.
I love the sound of just your shoes and no music. Like a real hiking experience.
Glad you enjoyed :)
Great shoys! Awesome!

Thank you for this. I’m heading out there soon. Would love to see a gear video and any challenges you overcame.
Great ideas. I was thinking of making some post hike videos including a gear video. Have a wonderful time on the TRT!
@@karahikes you should do it! I'm looking at hiking the same time you did in 2023

@@Mr_H878 Looking like a very different snow year in '23!
@@csn583 like more snow different?
Did your tent get a lot of condensation on it at night, especially near the lakes? We are going in August!
@@steph50095 I had no condensation at any campsites. I used a double wall tent. Can’t speak for how single wall tent would do.
