Now THAT was enjoyable. I'm afraid of heights but I think I could fly one of those Weedhoppers. Actually, I'm not so much afraid of height but falling from height. The Weedhoppers looks as though it would glide if the engine quit so there wouldn't be too much problem landing. Unless you were right over a large group of trees.
It's nearly always rough air here. If you wait for perfect air here you'll never fly. It was mid afternoon on a 100 degree day so yeah, pretty rough. I wanted to wait until later in the evening but we had storms forecasted. And yeah, my field is really rough.
I had a 40 Delux model. Swapped the 447 for a DCDI 503 and mounted it upright. Added second 5 gal fuel tank along with a pod from a Phantom. I sleeved all critical areas on the spar tube and replaced struts with a heavier guage ac aluminum tube. That thing would go! Reduce the dehydrial in the wings to 3 deg.
U scared the hell out of me with all those landing approaches, u only have a tail rudder to control left or right directions, then idle the engine to slow down and land, whew>
The plane is very stable due to its large dihedral to start with. It's roll controll is produced by the rudder turning the delta wing leading edge into the relative wind, producing more lift on than wing, and the opposite on the other wing.
Hello greetings from Chile, a question. You can share in real size, the greater and less curved tube of the wings, I am starting a weedhopper project. Thank you so much . Cristian.
Probably be too heavy. The engines on these were derived from skidoo snowmobiles. Most are exactly a snowmobile engine. The aircraft versions have dual ignition.
Electric starting is cool. That's a nice UL. Looks simple but sturdy. Thanks for posting.
I've always thought the Weedhopper was a very cool looking aircraft. Love where you mounted the camera, too. Thanks for sharing.
got to admit, this is amazing, was a 82nd when that chute opened it was bliss, but to fly it would have been even bttr>

Great footage
I like your airplane, this is flying like the Aces of WW2 must have felt like, real flight time! Your be safe and keep these cool videos coming 🏁
Still looking for plans for this aircraft. If anyone can help, it would be appreciated. Thanks.
Man that was mighty rough! Field AND air. For me, thermals are just not pleasant to fly in. I do miss my electric start. Thanks for the ride.

The one I had before this was an N numbered 2 place with an upright 582. Sure wish I still had it.
What fun I'm envious

It has rudder and elevator, it just doesn't have ailerons. However, with it's delta wings it turns like it has ailerons.
John Chotia the Weedhopper designer died in 1981 testing one of his ultralights.
how the plane does roller control. even though it doesn't have Alierons. can you tell me ?

I can't remember without going and measuring. Plans are available online.
No engine warm-up?
It was warmed up before I turned the camera on.
do u have plans to build it, will pay>
The plans are available for sale online. (not from me)
Great Video, I have been looking for a used weed hopper for a long time. I'm not having any luck, do you know anyone interested?
Not currently, join the Weedhopper FB group, they come up fore sale from time to time on there.
Wind speed?
5-10mph
Field is bad rough, best time to fly is daylight until around 8-9am, then park it
You won't see me out of bed that early on a day off 🙂. Usually late evening for me.
Yeah, the 6 am flights (when no thermals) during flight school annihilated me physiologically.
Can I use bike engine sir?

Enjoy
O rapaz coloca capacete kkk se fosse eu colocava capacete e fralda .
Lol, it isn't scary. Helmet is just keep wind out of my face and in case of a botched landing or engine out landing over hosting terrain.
Your engine motor cc
447
sure looks windy
What a shame these kits aren't made anymore, at least that's what my Google search revealed.
Unfortunately they are not. There is a set of plans available and 2 sail makers that will make sails for them.
@@donniewaterstx Where can you get the sails at? I'm actually thinking about building a pair of these with a buddy over the winter!
Dick Cheney at Great Salt Lake Sails or Malcom Brubaker. Both still make sails. I believe Great Salt Lake Sails was the original manufacturer.
@@donniewaterstx Thanks a bunch!

Ass too close to the ground when taking off \ landing 🥳
cool video man.....check mine out ...look up killer river ultralight flying
You came in too fast for landing. Rough terrain bro. Oh well. !! New in business
Too fast? Lol. You can see my airspeed? Yes my field is rough.
This guy is asking for trouble.
Stay in your safe place, it'll be alright.
Might be ded by now ha
Nope
